Do you think your party is moving in the wrong direction? There are ways to get involved including voting for new central committee members and going to state conventions.
A reader of mine, Jay Kapitz, is running to be a delegate to the state convention. To find out his platform and what is involved click on continue reading. I have worked with Jay Kapitiz and if you agree with his platform I strongly urge you to support him. Progressive candidates thinking of running in the next couple of years would be smart to talk to him on the subject of creating a grassroots campaign.
If your party has a function you would like me to list, email it in and I will post it for you.
Dear Friends:
I need your help. I am running for election in the 41st Assembly District for Delegate to the 2009 California Democratic Party convention. There are at least 30 candidates running for 12 positions. I just need you to show up for a few minutes on Saturday, January 10, 2009 between 10 AM and 12 noon to vote. You can vote and leave immediately. The location is Topanga Community House, 1440 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd., Los Angeles. You may pre-register at www.cadem.org to make it even faster.
I think I am the only Ventura County candidate running and that is a big disadvantage so I really need your help. You can vote if you were a registered Democrat in the November 2008 election and live in the 41st Assembly District. The district is huge and includes the following: Oak Park, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village (LA County part), Hidden Hills, Topanga, Oxnard (part), Port Hueneme, Calabasas, Malibu, Santa Monica, Pacific Palasades, Encino (part), Tarzana (part) and Woodland Hills (part). Please forward this to your friends who live in these areas.
You may vote for up to 6 men and 6 women. I am running on a slate with other progressive candidates so please support them as well when you show up to vote
Men: Jay Kapitz, Jonathan Troen, Steve Polard, Tighe Barry, Ben Allen, Ted Vaill.
Women: Linda Sutton, Maureen Cruise, Susan Haskell, Genevieve Cruise, Julie Levine, Aparna Sridhar.
I have attached my flyer which explains why I am running and qualified for this position which I have held for the past 4 years.
Thanks for your support and I hope to see you on Saturday, January 10.
Jay Kapitz

On November 7, 2000, I watched, from home, the theft of a presidential election. My response was to become a grassroots activist for the Democratic Party. I have since worked thousands of hours, organized hundreds of volunteers, personally walked to, called and registered voters across Ventura County.
This year, I contributed over 1000 hours working for the successful election of Barack Obama and chaired two successful funding measures for the Oak Park Unified School District.
I am a member of the Progressive Democrats of America and strongly support its priorities including: 1. End the wars, redirect funding; 2. Single-payer healthcare for all; 3. Clean, fair, transparent elections; 4. End global warming; 5. Economic justice for all including support of the Employee Free Choice Act and opposing "free trade" agreements that only protect corporate rights; 6. Equal rights for all regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation; 7. Separation of church and state; 8. Support for public schools; 9. And above all, upholding the Constitution of the United States.
I would be honored to serve again as a member of the Democratic Party Central Committee.
