Local supporters of Marriage Equality will be rallying this Friday to protect the rights of the roughly 18,000 couples who were married in California before the Proposition 8 ban went into effect. The lawyer arguing in favor of eliminating their right to keep their marriage is Pepperdine law professor Ken Starr. I support Marriage Equality and I find it very mean spirited to go after people that were married before the ban went into effect. I don't see a legitimate argument that their marriages are related to the primary arguments put forth by Proposition 8 supporters. I hope the California State Supreme Court rules in favor of protecting their civil rights.
I won't be able to make it but if any of the people at the rally send me video or pictures I will post them.

Marriage Equality RallyDON'T FORCE DIVORCE
When: Friday February 13, 2009 11:30a - 1:30p
Where: Ventura County Government Center
800 S Victoria Ave, Ventura, CA (Meet at the fountain)
What: Join the Ventura County Rainbow Alliance, Stonewall Democrats of Ventura County, and COLOR for a rally to show our resolve to overturn Prop 8 and to show support for the 18,000+ same-sex couples who were legally married in 2008
This peaceful demonstration aims to show:
1) That we will not tolerate discrimination being written into our state constitution.
2) That we're angry that our state's election was hijacked by out-of-state special interest groups.
3) That Proposition 8 was inherently unfair and wrong
4) That we support equal marriage rights for all consenting adults without regard for secondary characteristics such as gender, race, or socioeconomic status

I remember when the supporters of Proposition 8 fought against the ballot description saying it would eliminate marriage rights for some people. Treating gay people different is unfair and will not stand.
The only thing that the supporters of Proposition 8 did was delay justice for many families that they don't think should be families.
Not everyone that voted for Proposition 8 is a bigot, but for bigots that did support it they must be angry knowing that their attempt to deny rights to some people is only temporary.
