I hope the young people take this opportunity to tell the older Republican leaders how their generation differs on the issues of the day. Most people assume that Democrats have a lock on the youth vote but the truth is George W. Bush actually came within roughly a point of taking the youth vote in 2000.

This time Barack Obama earned their support by greater than a 2 to 1 margin. Some Republicans want to dismiss these voters as naive or caught up in a moment, but ridiculing them isn't likely to get them to stop supporting the president.

What happened? How did the Republican Party lose almost this entire generation to Barack Obama? Sure, some of them didn't understand the issues but I have talked to adults that thought he was a secret Muslim or forwarded me some really dumb and racist emails. Ignorance isn't confined to any age category or political party.

Many of the young people that I know were passionate, serious minded, and engaged in the process. That goes for conservative and progressive young people. I suggested to a few young conservatives that they attend this meeting.

America is best served by parties and candidates that compete for votes across the nation and in every demographic. We need these young people to learn from their party elders and most of all inform their party what needs to change.

Santa Barbara conservatives are also hosting a Tea Party to protest against liberal policies this weekend.

Here is their announcement:

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY TEA PARTY VENTURA COUNTY TEA PARTY LLOYD MARCUS STARS! SANTA BARBARA'S BIG, COOL TEA PARTY ADDS NATIONALLY ACCLAIMED MUSICIAN TO ITS UNIQUE TAX REVOLT EVENT Our city's unique version of the national grassroots tea party movement, Santa Barbara's Big, Cool Tea Party, has scored a musical coup. The tax savvy group has announced they have signed popular singer-songwriter Lloyd Marcus to perform at their rally this Saturday. Remembered by entertainment insiders as the man who gave Oprah Winfrey her start in broadcasting, Mr. Marcus will be flying in from Florida to inspire the tea party's expected crowd of 1,500. The musician's just released "American Tea Party Anthem" has become an instant hit after its national premiere last Tuesday on FOX TV. "I'm looking forward to my first trip to your town and excited to be participating in Santa Barbara's Big, Cool Tea Party," reported Mr. Marcus. "The organizers have put together an unusual event, mixing fun and drama with historical perspective. . . . the Paul Revere Ride is great . . . It's all a class act. I like their upbeat attitude." The dynamic singer is spokesman for Our Country Deserves Better PAC and President of NAACPC. He earned millions of fans with his smooth vocals when he toured the country during the 2008 presidential campaign; many from around the state will be driving hours to hear him this weekend. In addition to his performance at the rally, Mr. Marcus will be feted by Mary Belle and Tom Snow at a private party on Friday evening. The tea party is a family friendly event. Also getting star billing is the march's leader, "Paul Revere," who will deliver his 2009 warning to his fellow citizens as he rides on horseback through downtown. The American icon will be followed by a drum and fife band, colorful Revolutionary War characters and modern day patriots. The rally includes celebrities and tax experts, with Mr. Marcus as headliner. Participants are asked to assemble at the Courthouse at 2:30 PM. For registration and information, please visit www.santabarbaracountyteaparty.org.
The Tea Party has controversial conservative personality Tammy Bruce scheduled to speak at their event. Tammy Bruce recently went after Michelle Obama and said that we have trash living in the White House. Here is their post on getting Tammy Bruce

Talk show host Tammy Bruce has added national panache to Santa Barbara's Big, Cool Tea Party this Saturday. According to SBCTP Committee Member, Maureen Murphy, Ms. Bruce agreed to be join in the tax revolt group's event yesterday. "We was just thrilled she gave the OK. She originally couldn't come because of travel plans, but she changed it to attend the event."

Flagshipped at KABC Radio and nationally syndicated with 153 affiliates, Ms. Bruce's show premiered in Los Angeles in 1993 and has been running six days a week ever since. The popular, often witty communicator is the author of three best sellers on social issues, "The Death of Right and Wrong," "The New Thought Police," and "The New American Revolution." A native of Los Angeles, she is well regarded as a political analyst, who consistently argues that Americans' freedom of expression and personal liberty are under attack.

Other speakers include Hollywood screenwriter Andrew Klavan, COLAB Executive Director Andy Caldwell, Senator George Runner ( Editorial note from Brian Dennert: The same State Senator who has been avoiding meeting with Ventura County educators), Lompoc Mayor Richard De Wees, Past President of Santa Barbara Taxpayers Association Joe Armendariz, Gabriella Murrilo, and Erin Graffy de Garcia. The rally's headliner is singer-songwriter Lloyd Marcus, who will perform his latest hit, "The American Tea Party Anthem."

The ambitious local version of the growing national grassroots tax revolt movement begins with a march lead by American Revolutionary War Hero, Paul Revere (portrayed by Tony Browning), on horseback and ends with the rally. Organizers estimate the event will draw 1,500 participants from throughout the region and predict it will be an historic day for Santa Barbara. The tea party starts at the Courthouse at 2:30 PM. It is a family friendly event. Visit santabarbaracountyteaparty.org.

Maybe Ventura County Supervisor Peter Foy will also attend. Here is a photo of him attending a anti-tax rally put on by John and Ken of KFI AM 640
Radio as the California leader of Americans for Prosperity:

Rumors are that he is thinking of running for either Governor or Insurance Commissioner. I think it is more likely he runs for Insurance Commissioner. In a campaign for Insurance Commissioner his past support for far right candidate Alan Keyes wouldn't be as powerful of a negative.

How do you think County Supervisor Peter Foy is going to vote on raises for government employees next week? Click here for a story from The Star that provides documents and details on the proposed wage increases going in front of the Board of Supervisors next week.

If you attend any events and want me to post videos or pictures send them in. Have a fun weekend.

I posted an entry on the Ventura County Tea Party earlier and I didn't notice this event wasn't on the same day until tonight. Click here for information on the Ventura County event. Read through the comments and add your own thoughts.

A little history lesson thanks to Wikipedia.

The Boston Tea Party was a direct action protest by colonists in Boston, a town in the British colony of Massachusetts, against the British government. On December 16, 1773, after officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor. The incident remains an iconic event of American history, and has often been referenced in other political protests.

The Tea Party was the culmination of a resistance movement throughout British America against the Tea Act, which had been passed by the British Parliament in 1773. Colonists objected to the Tea Act for a variety of reasons, especially because they believed that it violated their constitutional right to be taxed only by their own elected representatives. Protestors had successfully prevented the unloading of taxed tea in three other colonies, but in Boston, embattled Royal Governor Thomas Hutchinson refused to allow the tea to be returned to Britain. He apparently did not expect that the protestors would choose to destroy the tea rather than concede the authority of a legislature in which they were not directly represented.

This group is a collection of far right groups. They should hold their meetings at the Republican Party Headquarters.

This is a great program that is intended to encourage young people to become more involved in the political process. Kudos to the VCRCC, and Mike Osborn and Chris Collier, for putting it on.

Good luck to all!!!

Sorry, I didn't mean the really cool youth program, I meant the Tea Party people.

The Republican Party is doing something to help young people get involved and that is something most of us would agree is a good thing.

The tea people on the other hand have far right connections that they are trying to hide.

I went to the Ventura County Republican website and they are helping to organize the American "Family" Association's website.

This would be like the local Democrats getting involved with ANSWER to protest stuff.

I didn't realize the local Republicans were that far right. Maybe the tea people should just meet at the Republican Party headquarters if they support the same agenda.

This is the sort of thing that always amuses me. So it's an admirable effort to get teenage Republicans involved in the political process as long as they don't support something "extreme" and far right as opposing the largest tax increase in state history when taxes are already sky high.

Unreal.

I'm replacing the boogey man with "tea people" in tonight's scary bedtime story.

Huh?,

You didn't read my comments. I ridiculed the involvement and sponsorship of the event by American "Family" Association. I didn't comment on taxes. Standing up for fiscal responsibility is not a right or left wing value, it just makes sense. Each party should try to show why they are better at that task. If the Republicans want to train young people to run the government and to push for their way of controlling spending I am glad they are doing it.

But these TEA parties are not just over taxes. The sponsoring group supports removing basic civil rights from gay people. Young Americans are far more tolerant of diversity than the leaders of the far right groups trying to dominate the Republican Party.

It shows how extreme the group is to have a speaker that called Michelle Obama trash when the issue is supposedly taxes and spending.

America doesn't see Michelle Obama as trash and Americans look down at that type of language towards the first lady.

Uh, hello Lars up there. You do know that Tammy Bruce is gay herself, don't you? If this group is so right-wing, and if they're supposed to be against gay people, why did they invite her?

Let's think now, before we just "assume" something, ok? It seems to me that reasonable people in the Republican AND Democrat party can come together in this; because we are all worried for our country! Aren't we?

Maybe they can come together when your speaker doesn't call Michelle Obama trash and you learn the name of the Democratic Party.

Read the link.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Democrat_Party

Do you agree that her statement calling Michelle Obama trash is shows she has very low class?

You tell me if the sponsoring organization believes in discrimination or equality:

http://www.afa.net/homosexual_agenda/

Maybe Tammy Bruce is a closet heterosexual. I say that because it seems odd why someone would support a group that is in the business of taking away their civil rights.

The one thing I do know is the Tea Party is a far right wing Republican group. A group that takes people like Deb and takes full advatage of them anyway they can.

Per Wikipedia:

Tammy Bruce (born August 19, 1962) is an American radio host, author, and political commentator. Her nationally-syndicated talk show, The Tammy Bruce Show, airs on stations throughout the United States on Talk Radio Network.[1] She is also an on-air contributor to Fox News Channel.

The Tammy Bruce Show broadcasts three hours a day, six days a week, including Saturdays. Bruce's Web site describes her as "an openly gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty "progressive feminist" who has voted for presidents as diverse as Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

During the 1992 election season she worked on the first Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) senatorial campaigns.[2] In 2003 Bruce was appointed to serve on California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's Transition Team after the successful recall election against then-Governor Gray Davis.[3]"

I don't know who she supported in this last Presidential election.

Being that she said Michelle Obama is trash I doubt she voted for Barack Obama. The Tea Party organizers found a right wing hero that attacked the first lady and called her trash.

So much for being a family friendly event.

Her is a quote from a libertarian magazine profile of her "Her new book, The Death of Right and Wrong: Exposing the Left's Assault on Our Culture and Our Values, has blurbs from Laura Schlessinger, Sean Hannity, and G. Gordon Liddy."

She doesn't have class and is just another Ann Coulter type who will say almost anything to sell a few books.

Looks like Foy and Ken and John will all enjoy teabagging together.

This movement is spreading like wildfire across the state and there is no better time than April 15th to unite forces and protest our government's rapid move toward Socialism with Obama's $1 trillion dollar "rescue plan." Enough is enough!!!

I found it quite interesting at the G-20 economic summit that Communist China came out against the U.S.'s excessive spending on the economic de-stimulus plan. They said they could never commit this much government spending to try and stimulate their economy.

Now when Communist China is warning us that we're spending too much money on government programs that should tell you something right there.

As I said on the other thread "I think this is a far better use of time - especially for lawmakers, Board of Supervisors, etc. that have a pro-life position. It is this Friday so true conservatives can participate in the walk and not worry about their tea party.

GOOD FRIDAY WALK IN REPARATION FOR THE SIN OF ABORTION - Pro Life Ventura County is called to a Walk in Reparation for the Sin of Abortion 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. The walk starts from Sacred Heart Catholic Church 10800 Henderson Rd Ventura CA., and proceeds five miles to the Planned Parenthood Ventura Center an abortion clinic at 5400 Ralston Street Ventura, CA 93003,

Those who are not able to come to the walk but would like to pray with the group can gather at 12:00 across the street from Planned Parenthood at about 12:00. Please bring your family and friends! Calendar For Life Abortion Facts sacredheartventura.org"

Funny how the tea party people keep counting tax cuts as spending. What countries are socialist according to your logic?

Explain to me how the $1 trillion that Obama has pledged to stimulate the economy is coming from tax cuts. It's not. It's coming, in large part, from deficit spending. This means that your children, their children, and their children's children will be paying for this mess through their taxes.

This thing was a big flop. It was basically a gathering of far right nut jobs and America haters. The Founding fathers were not anti-tax, they were upset over not having representation, these clowns have tried to bastardize American history for their own twisted purposes.

Tea Party,

Tax cuts can cause the national debt to grow. The stimulus package included both tax cuts and spending to get the economy moving. We might disagree if it will work, but the fact remains it was a massive tax cut.

Here is some background from the Ventura County Democrats that includes their take on it:

http://venturacountydemocrats.com/2009/02/14/elton-gallegly-votes-against-biggest-middle-class-tax-cut-in-history/

These people didn't seem to mind when Bush spent so much money. Does anyone leading the Tea people ever mention the cost of the Ira war or do they only include environmental protection, education, and infrastructure projects as wasteful spending?

How's Foy doing on his immigration platform that he ran on? His buddy Brooks doesnt even check the legal status of those in the VC jails. Suckers that voted for Foy. But he sure played them well.
