Tony Strickland Does What Elton Gallegly Refuses To Do

What is it that Elton Gallegly refuses to do? Release his schedule and host scheduled town hall events.

I have been calling his offices for months asking when the next town hall event is and they have transferred me, asked for my number, sent me to voicemail, and told me to call a long distance number to Washington DC. They even claim the local office doesn't get a copy of his schedule even when he is in the district.

Wouldn't it be easier and more friendly to your constituents to post your events online?

Here is an excerpt from State Senator Tony Strickland's website:

Senator Strickland's Upcoming Events

Strickland Hosts Community Coffee Event

Date: Friday, April 24, 2009, 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Location: Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, 28460 Ave. Stanford #100, Santa Clarita, CA 91355

State Senator Tony Strickland recently introduced legislation that would ban paying money to a spouse to be a consultant on a political campaign. In the past Tony Strickland took money from contributers and paid his wife to work for him. Elton Gallegly has been paying his wife to work on his campaigns for years.

Here is a quote from Timm Herdt's article on the legislation:

Westlake Village political activist Bob Larkin, who has loudly criticized the Stricklands for having paid each other's companies out of their campaign funds, said the practice should have always been illegal because it's already against the law for an elected official to transfer campaign contributions into their personal accounts.

"When it's illegal to move money from Point A to Point B, and you move it from Point A to Point C and then move it to Point B -- that's money laundering," he said. "If someone took a check from Chevron and put it in his personal account, he'd go to jail."

The proposal isn't likely to become law but it does show there is a difference between Elton Gallegly and Tony Strickland on this issue?

Who do you side with on this issue? Tony Strickland or Elton Gallegly?

Do you agree it would be a decent idea to post events that are open to the public on a legislators website?

Our elected representatives should have to take tough questions, with follow ups, from the public.

Our representatives should absolutely meet with their constituents on a regular basis - and answer their questions truthfully and honestly.

I think I would rather be waterboarded then have to sit in a room and listen to either Gallegly or a Strickland, talk about true torture!

I think we need to waterboard Katie to get her to finally admit she's a liberal Democrat.

Waterboard all right wing nutjobs!

ALL_POLITICIANS,

Do you think he should hold public events? With the advantages of incumbency the average voter doesn't realize Gallegly doesn't hold many public events.

So Katie is a liberal democrat because she believes in open Governmeent? Oh that's right, Bush and Cheney and the other right wing lunatics tried to committ all their crimes in secret and out of the eye of the public.

Mike Osbourne is leading whatever Republicans left in Ventura County into a deep dark abis. Every day becoming more a parody of their glorious past.

Katie has everything the VCRCC lacks. Things like honesty, integrity, a little common sense.

Elton Gallegly is the VCRCC last victory. When he goes they go. Katie is forever.

There's a prime example of what happens when you look at the world through beer goggles.

Couple of things:

1. Why are we comparing Elton and Tony on the extremes of their lawbreaking?
Are you trying to say, Brian, that Tony is less of a sinner because he introduced legislation that makes his past actions illegal?
Big deal....that bill will go nowhere, and he won't work to get it passed. He's laying the groundwork for his political career post-State Senate. Trying to put lipstick on a pig, to borrow a worn-out phrase. Apparently Tony's bored with his current job already and is training to be the backwater Kobe Bryant. Where's your blog entry on that little gem of news?

2. I called Gallegly's office years ago asking for his schedule for local town hall events. Just as with your experience, I was told his DC office handles all those events.... a blatant lie because another Congressman told me later that local offices handle all local events. Elton just can't be bothered to take the time and effort.

As long as he keeps fooling east county voters, we all are stuck with Gallegly. Taxation without representation. You'd think the tea parties would have been scheduled in front of Gallegly's office. But the residents of this district have shown time and again they love get nothing for their votes, and nothing for their tax dollars, so I'm sure Gallegly will be re-elected come 2010.
