Moorpark City Council Candidate Nathan Sweet Wins Online Poll

I am not making any claims that it will influence the vote on Tuesday but Firefighter Nathan Sweet has won my online poll of readers. As is 9PM the results:

Thanks to all of those that voted. Moorpark has many fine candidates to choose from. I know Nathan Sweet and I think he would make a great addition to the Moorpark City Council.

When a vacancy was created on the Moorpark City Council the city could have appointed someone that would then run in the next election as an incumbent. Instead the scheduled an election that allows all candidates to run on a level playing field. It is to the credit of the rest of the city council that they found a way of including voters.

If other boards are in the same situation and want to avoid the cost of an election they could always appoint a place holder until the next election.

Good job Moorpark and good luck figuring our who to vote for on Tuesday!

These times call for experience.
That's why I like David Pollock for Moorpark w City Council. Mr. Pollock has the experience that makes great cities. David Pollocks operations background is very simular to that of the beloved world class long time mayor of Thousand Oaks Alex Fiore. They don't make them like this anymore. Please take advantage of it.

When I think about Moorpark I think about quality. A vote for David Pollock is a vote quality and a vote in the right direction for Moorpark.

Mike,

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog.

The box labeled URL is an easy way to link back to a website for a candidate or cause you support.

David Pollock is by far the most qualified candidate in the Moorpark City Council race. David Pollock has delivered results year after year. I wouldn't surprise me in a few years they didn't start calling the city MoorPollock.

During the debates everyone was asked if the city should help moorparks cash strapped and mismanaged school district. Polluck had no good answer and HE IS ON THE SCHOOL BOARD THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. I have no problems with David but he needs to clean up the mess his current board is in rather than jump ship.

Nathan is in this race because he has great ideas about what the city council should be doing for Moorpark.

David is in this race because he really cares about the CA School Board Association which he is a member of and this conflicts with his current Moorpark commitment to be on the school board there.

Truth is David is a better candidate in 2010 after he has had a chance to steer the school board through its' current difficulties.

Nathan is a better candidate right now because his ideas and knowledge of state bureaucracy are what Moorpark needs right now. What are their plans to get stimulus money for instance? Exactly - none. And nathan knows how to do this.

I love to see these Dems duking it out. This has the making of another Dantona-Jackson cancel-each-other-out election. Sweeeet (and I don't mean Nathan)!

At least the Dems are duking it out over ideas and not uprooting each others signs like some "people" I know.

What ideas? Like how many different ways they can raise taxes?

This is the first I've heard of this so-called "poll". So how can you even consider this a prediction??? This is not statiscally significant. I earned a master's degree in survey taking...this is a joke!

What a fraud poll! Miller got my vote, but any sensible poll would probably have Miller and Bagwell fighting it out for the Republicans against Pollock. While the open nature of a multi-member race tends to lead to heavily split pluralities, Sweet is going to remain a nobody. I guess this just shows who reads your online crudola!

Please, don't put in Rudi Stein!

Anyone know the relevance of this line from the 1976 classic movie, "The Bad News Bears", to the Moorpark City Council election?

Teresa, Alexis,

No where in the description of the poll does it say it is scientific or representative of voters in Moorpark. I didn't say it was a prediction. My predictions and the poll results are not the same.

If you were really paying attention to the campaign you would have noticed the first results when searching for Jon Miller Moorpark City Council has this blog for the first few results.

I don't know who you are arguing with being that I didn't present any of the arguments you are disputing.

The poll really shows what supporters were more likely to care passionately enough to pay attention to what was being discussed online in this campaign.

Teresa, Alexis,

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog. If the early results are an indicator Miller isn't close and my predictions are going to be correct.

You shouldn't have been so hasty to insult an online poll when I made no claim that the poll results were scientific. My predictions were not based on an online poll.

I am interested in your analysis of what is happening. Please post it on a results entry. I am also interested if you agree upon reading my entries again that I made no claim it was a scientific poll.

The Moorpark City Council could NOT have appointed someone. We had a big fight over this issue. The city charter REQUIRES a special election, and the City Council tried to remove that clause from the charter. As one of the people speaking against that action, I felt I should set the record straight.

They did appoint Gary Lowenberg as an interim councilperson until the election. Unfortunately, he died of an aneurysm during his term of service.

An incumbent has a huge advantage over any newcomer. That's why the city charter requires a special election, and that's why I opposed any appointment. The cost of the special election, especially since it was tied into the state special election, is miniscule compared to protecting our right to vote for our representatives.

Interesting that Gary L. was so involved in the Chamber and a close friend of Janice Parvin and Bagwell got the Chamber endorsement. Who suggested that the position be appointed instead of filled? You would be doing everyone a favor by naming names.

Linda,

They could have appointed someone that would have then run in the special election as an incumbent.

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog.

Am I the only one who is thoroughly amused that someone is challenging the scientific relevance of an online poll? The masters degree comment is especially amusing.

Seriously Brian, this unscientific poll is an absolute outrage! You fooled no one with this farce! No one!!

Well, since no one volunteered an answer on my teaser, I'll give it to you.

David Pollock played Rudi Stein, the hapless pitcher in the classic 1976 movie, "The Bad News Bears," starring Walter Matthau.

Mr. Pollock was a child actor who was also in a number of commercials and TV shows. He also reprised his Rudi Stein character in a couple of sequels to "The Bad News Bears."
