State Assembly Candidate Susan Jordan has announced a fundraiser with environmental activists Keely & Pierce Brosnan. Click on continue reading for details.
As you likely know Pierce Brosnan played 007. Click here for his IMBD entry.
This comes a few days after Republicans used a James Bond movie to taunt Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Maybe someone at the fundraiser can ask him to apply a James Bond reference to this campaign.
What endorsements would I like to see? The candidate that gets the most endorsements from former or current Lakers gets my support.

Dear Friends,
You are cordially invited to a sunset cocktail reception overlooking the Pacific on June 14th to support our friend and California environmental champion Susan Jordan in her race to become the next 35th District Assemblymember.
Susan is a bold and courageous advocate who blends a strong business background with over 30 years of non-profit advocacy on behalf of women and the environment. Susan was critical in our fight to stop the construction of a dangerous Liquefied Natural Gas terminal off the coast of Malibu and Oxnard in 2007. In 2008, Susan stopped the construction of a massive toll road in Orange County through San Onofre State Park, the birthplace of Trestles, a world renown surf spot. Currently, she is fighting to stop renewed offshore oil drilling off our California coast.
Over the last 15 years, Susan has been a tireless environmental leader who has taken on the toughest fights in California and won. To make sure our environment, our communities and our children are protected, we need Susan in the California legislature now more than ever.
Whether it's the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, the ocean we swim in, or the species we honor, respect, and want to protect, we need strong leaders to take action. Susan has the courage and experience it takes to lead the charge in the Legislature.
Please join us in helping to send a great environmental leader to the State Assembly!
Sincerely,
Keely and Pierce Brosnan

This candidate is certainly starting off with a lot of energy.
Hello
Pierce is a great man and great actor
As you have understand we are too big admirers of Pierce Brosnan.
She at least is getting alot of coverage from the STAR. Appears the editorial board has already decided who their endorsing.
As to his particular piece of adoring worship, what in the hell do I care that Pierce Bronson is holding fundraising party for Mrs Pedro.
I have never understood the idea that just because someone is an actor, a sports star, a music star, etc., etc., that they are knowledgeable about other thing. In fact the truth is just the opposite, they are paid mouth-pieces. Someone gives them money, shoves a piece of paper in front of them and they read it. Oh I forgot, the listener swoon and call them a genius, NOT!
Again the little guys don't need Pedro Light.
Another example of Mrs. Jordan's support coming from out of town millionaires.
Why the need to highlight a celeb? Really though
Jordan's support comes from the many people she's worked with over the years and the Brosnans are just one of many. But let's face it, to run a campaign takes money. So it your supporters want to throw a party for you, you don't turn it down.
There are plenty of non-celeb regular folks who are in her corner too. Brian's last post on this candidate makes that obvious.
(FOUL LANGUAGE DELETED BY MODERATOR) for the STAR to be pushing her so heavily so far before the election.
Six years of Pedro "illegal alien" Nava was too much. We don't need MRS Pedro. Lets get some fresh ideas in Sacramento not recyle the old retreads.
Personally I think Pedro is Susan Light.
Anytime I see a celebrity endorsing a political candidate, it raises a red flag for me. The Hollywood elites are so out of touch that the politicians who find it necessary to affiliate themselves with them I believe must be equally so.
The Brosnans are avid environmentalists who work exclusively with non-profits. This is the first candidate they have worked for.
There are a lot of celebrities in both parties who do good charitable works.
I guess it is better when Tony Strickland shares a stage with radio loudmouth Tammy Bruce who called Michelle Obama trash.
I am not a member of the Star's editorial board. I post entries regarding Susan Jordan because her campaign sends them in. Look through the archives and you will see coverage of many candidates, not just those I support.
I post entries on Das Williams too. If a Republican challenger sends me updates or if I see them I will post those also.
I don't know if personally I will support either in the primary but I am looking forward to learning more from both of them.
It is easier to follow a debate or conversation if you use the same name more often, even if it is just a screen name.
Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog.
I know why the Republican here are angry...
Susan Jordan has a more serious celebrity supporting her than John McCain had during his Presidential campaign. Let's face it Chuck Norris doesn't have enough political punch to win a Presidential election. McCain would have been better with the Karate Kid.
When a known commodity such as Pierce Bronson puts his name on something it instills confidence. At the very least it causes people to take a look. History has proven when people take a look at Susan Jordan they like what they see.
I don't know if the Republicans should waste their tobacco money fighting for this seat. It looks like a done deal.
Nobody is wrong yet again. Chuck Norris was a Mike Huckabee supporter in the presidential election. He never supported John McCain.
Pierce Brosnan is a typical shallow Hollywood elitist who cares more about his ocean views than the future of our country. He's jumped on the global warming bandwagon because it's the fashionable thing to do in Hollywood. Beyond that, he's done nothing.
He's not even an A-list actor. More like a C-lister. The only thing I saw him in that stands out in my memory was Mrs. Doubtfire, with Robin Williams. Not exactly Lawrence Olivier material if you ask me.
He just went by my window wearing a jet pack. It's spelled Pierce Brosnan.
In your fury you missed 007.
More Republican celebrities run for major office then Democratic celebrities. Stop pretending you don't like them or stop supporting them!
And when Mike Huckabee lost Chuck Norris supported John McCain for President. His second high profile celebrity was Mr. Six Flags.
Notice how the Republican celebrities RUN for office? They see the weak field and say "Hey I think I can win"! Not a huge endorsement in my opinion.

Also, the national Democratic fundraising site ActBlue wrote a blog about the Jordan fundraiser on their site because the Brosnans set up a fundraising page there. It was a cute piece. I tried to leave the link here, but it keeps getting caught in Brian's spam filter. Just go to ActBlue, click on blogs and it's the second piece down.
Does the many protests they've registered against development along the Malibu coast because it will obstruct their precious ocean views count as environmental activism? Just curious, because that seems to be their main motivation.
Their opposition to the LNG facility off the Malibu coast was another self-serving, NIMBY-type move.
I'm sorry, but I'm always a bit skeptical of these narcissistic Hollywood types. Just because they can memorize lines doesn't give them any intellectual advantage over the rest of us when it comes to political or public policy issues.
n addition to his stellar film and television career, Brosnan, together with his wife Keely Shaye, has been drawn into a passionate leadership role in environmental issues.
They regularly volunteer their time and talent to support numerous environmental causes such as marine mammal and wetland protection, and anti-nuclear, clean air and clean water campaigns. Pierce and Keely have been involved in fighting the unpopular Cabrillo Port Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility proposed off the coast of Malibu and Oxnard by BHP Billiton. This LNG project posed significant and potentially irreversible negative impacts to the coast, the environment and to the health and safety of the community.
They are also committed to a long term campaign with the NRDC to challenge the United States Navy's deployment of a new sonar system in over 75% of the world's oceans, citing scientific evidence that low-mid and high frequency sonar poses a grave threat to whales, dolphins, seals, and other marine mammals.
For over a decade, they have lobbied against legislation designed to weaken federal standards for labeling canned tuna "Dolphin Safe." From 1997 to 2000, they worked with the NRDC and IFAW to stop a proposed salt factory from being built at Laguna San Ignacio on Mexico's Baja California peninsula. Their unprecedented victory prevented the destruction of the last pristine breeding ground for the Pacific gray whale.
Pierce and Keely have emerged as respected and passionate activists addressing any number of issues in an effort to protect the planet and the species that inhabit it. Both the Environmental Media Association and Women In Film have honored them with humanitarian awards, while Heal the Bay, The American Oceans Campaign and the NRDC have honored them for their ongoing commitment to environmental issues.
In 1997, Green Cross International President Mikhail Gorbachev presented Pierce with an Environmental Leadership Award, citing him as "a truly committed leader whose bold actions and clever voice have been instrumental in marine mammal protection, as well as that of fragile ecosystems."
Additionally, they are devoted to women's healthcare and global children's issues.
Well, I'll have to remember that comment Mr. Gorbachev made about Mr. Bond. If I have a clever voice, I guess that can help me project an image as an "environmental activist." Puhleeeeze...
Here we have an obviously Republican blogger picking apart the enviro creds of true environmentalists who put their money and their actions in the right place.
Then we have Phony Tony and his floozy pal enviro-for-hire Erin Brockovich.
Oh the irony!
Erin Brockovich speaks her mind and supports people because she believes in them, not because it's the PC cool thing to do.
Sorry, but the Brosnan's strike me as a couple of phonies. I call them as I see them too.
Erin is paid to do environmental work as an attorney. She's received millions. She spoke up for the Phony because of her company's connections to her former boss's son, one of Phony's bankrollers.
Mike Stoker has announced that he's in the race too. What about a thread on Mike?
A Phony Tony friend and employee who admits he cares nothing about the environment. He works for the biggest serial polluter in California too -- Greka Oil.

Little oil company creates big problems
3/27/2008
By Noaki Schwartz, Associated Press Writer
LOS OLIVOS, Calif. — When a Firestone Vineyard employee discovered oil trickling down a creek in January in this wine country town, the source of the contamination was no surprise to firefighters.
Of 21 refineries in California, Greka Oil & Gas Inc. is the fourth-smallest producer, but the state's biggest inland oil polluter, according to state officials.
Broken pumps, busted pipes, overflowing ponds and cracked tanks at Greka installations have spilled more than a half-million gallons of oil and contaminated water since 1999, fouling the water, soil and air in the Southern California county many consider the birthplace of the nation's environmental movement.
Over the past nine years, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department has responded at least 400 times to oil spills and gas leaks at Greka, resulting in fines, citations, federal and local prosecutions and investigations by the Environmental Protection Agency and state Fish and Game.
"I've been in the hazardous materials business for 20 years and this is the worst oil company I've ever seen," said Robert Wise, who works at EPA's Superfund division.
I believe Erin Brockovich supports Tony Strickland for good reason. The Republican's approach to the environment has made attorneys like her a ton of money.
I always thought Republicans didn't like trial attorneys. Why do they like this one?
A Senator could influence a case greatly. They could ask for investigations and look good doing it. Technically Tony Strickland could make a pretty penny from kickbacks. A very pretty penny.
With friends like Phony Tony, Mike Gibson, and Greka Oil executives, Stoker's attitude on the environment should be crystal clear.
Whatever democrat runs in this race they will wipe of the republican!
Keep dreamin'. It didn't work out that way in SD-19, or AD-35, last time. Nor did it work out in the 24th Congressional District.
AD 35 has a 20 point Dem advantage and is solidly blue. It has not been held by a Republican in recent memory.
Sorry, AD-37 is what I meant. Your comment on the registration advantage in AD-35, while it may be true, doesn't reflect the dynamics and issues that will be in play in this race that will heavily influence the outcome, namely taxes, offshore drilling, and illegal immigration.
AD-37 is on its way to becoming Blue and held by the dems! Looks like there won't be an elected republican left in the state after 2010!
Just because it may have a slight majority of registered Dems doesn't mean it automatically goes blue in the election. The election outcome is determined by voter turnout and, to this point, Republicans have turned out in far greater numbers in AD-37 than Dems.
Plus, there is going to be a huge push for new Republican registrations around the tax and immigration issues in the very near future. So, count on another Republican next year.
Mike Stoker can't keep his mouth shut. He always talks and never listens. He will only turn out the angry people with pitchforks and he will lose.
By slight Democratic registration advantage do you mean 20 points?
Reading comprehension, HA!, reading comprehension. You're obviously a product of the public school system.
If you read my post closely, you would see I'm referring to the 37th Assembly District. The 20-point advantage is in the the 35th Assembly District.
The poster boy for why the Republicans have lost registration, this guy is known and reviled in SB County.
Not so, oh lost one. Mike Stoker is highly regarded in many quarters in SB County, including the Santa Ynez Valley, Solvang, Buellton, Los Olivos, Santa Maria, Orcutt, Los Alamos, etc. True, the libs in Santa Barbara proper will most likely go with Jordan, but that's to be expected.
The place where the rubber will meet the road in this race is Ventura County.
That's true. He will get run over in Ventura and Oxnard. News flash: Santa Maria, Orcutt, Los Alamos not in AD 35 and the rest of those cities mentioned have few votes.
