Coming after Conservative writer George Will ridiculed Republican Secretary of Transportation ( Click on the graph for an article that shows he doesn't appear to have researched his article enough.) for supporting more ways to convince people to ride their bikes to work State Senator Tony Strickland celebrated ride your bike to work month by setting an example.

State Senator Tony Strickland is effective at using technology to keep his constituents updated on what he is doing, including radio appearances, public events, and other routine legislative schedules.

That is unlike Rep. Elton Gallegly, who brags he is in the district every weekend but doesn't hold public events where people can go for free and ask questions that often.

When was the last time any of you saw Rep. Elton Gallegly holding a public forum that was free to attend and scheduled for him to appear at? I have called his local office but they always tell me they don't have access to his schedule.

Here is what he said in a recent article:

Rep. Gallegly, if you are really around every weekend to meet with the public why not have your staff post it on your website?

This is a good example from one of our legislators on how to go green. Way to go, Tony!

He rides his bike to work one day. What a guy! And that just erases his gruesome record on the environment with one stroke.

Politicians should be banned from Twitter. Actually everyone should be banned from Twitter.

The reason Phony Tony can ride to work is because in reality he and Fraudra have moved to Sacramento just like McClintock had, yet they still collect their per diems, all at taxpayer expense. I bet Phony Tony has some big old training wheels on that bike!

Tony and Audra have a rental in Sacramento like many of the members do. They have to sleep somewhere Sunday thru Thursday nights. They fly twice a week with their kids . . . north on Sunday, south on Thursday. And before you say something else stupid, NO, the State doesn't pay for their kids' flights.

Anyone want to bet that "Rides again, check ur facts" is a paid staff person for either Phony Tony or Fraudra Strickland? Tell us staffer how much have Phony Tony and Fraudra collected in per diems this year?

Rides Again,

Ignore this moron. He's just one of the many whiners who still haven't gotten over the butt-waxing Hannah-Beth Jackson took in November at the hands of Tony.

If the Stricklands discovered the cure to cancer, this bonehead would claim they just did it to collect per diem fees. There is absolutely no credibility here.

Rides Again & Good Example sound like Angeles or VCRCC scum at it once again. The only cancer research Phony will ever do is to publish a paper attempting to prove that tobacco doesn't cause lung cancer. In small print the paper will acknowledge that Altria paid the Phony to conduct the research.

On a related tangent, because we all know how much Tony et al favor borrowing our way to Prosperity and smaller government....

I just read that the Voter-Approved hi-speed rail line will cost us, over the next ten years...$45B! That's if everything goes well and, as we all know, big projects like this always go well and can be expected to be finished within budget. While we're at it, everyone clap...before Tinkerbell dies!

A rough, best case scenario suggests that the cost of a one way ticket on the hi-speed ride between SF & LA will cost at least $1000 for the next 50 years. Annual operating costs, maintenance and the $3.5B+ debt service cost, extra.

So, do you need any more proof that it's NOT only the imbeciles in Sacramento that are overspending us into 3rd World status? That maybe it's CA's masochistic voters who can't get their fist out of the cookie jar, because they're too damn dumb?

GS,

Yes, ultimately, everything that happens in government is the voter’s responsibility. But that is the past. A new day has dawned and voters are becoming informed and taking control. I happen to agree with you – amongst other things, we should rescind this Proposition.

But our State Legislature is a swamp of corruption and political cronyism. We must vote these folks out and wrestle control of our political destiny from the Democratic & Republican Parties. My personal belief is that we, the voters, have learned our lesson and will not make the same mistakes twice. I wish you could say that for our State Legislature but I know you cannot because they are already up to their old tricks.

Just today, I read that our Legislature wanted to increase the powers of the Integrated Waste Management Board despite the fact that our Governor said the entire Board should be purged because it has been a haven for political cronyism. Our elected officials still just do not get it.

Martin

The new day looks just like the old day in CA. I'm not as optimistic as you to think that CA voters have learned their lesson...not by a long shot.

By the way...the Hi-Speed Rail Proposition was NOT a legislative effort. It was balloted by special interest groups. The fault I have with Sacramento is that none of our legislators (that I heard from) spoke out against this boondoggle. The Terminator spoke for it (because his Wall Street bond pals and biggest campaign contributors will get the juiciest portion of fees and interest from the deal)

Our voters have not only made the same mistake twice...they keep making the same mistake four, five six times and still counting. During the past eight years CA voters have taken on commitments of almost $5B to the State's annual debt service costs. That's MORE than the accumulated State deficit over those same eight years.

CA needs to make the Prop & Initiative processes more difficult for a small majority to screw up the State.

Martin,

The legislature also voted to eliminate the Secretary of Education position and the staff for that office.

But the governor is against that cut.

Your nonpartisan partisanship always seems to target vague targets like "the legislature" but not the governor.

When did voters take control? During the special elections when they refused to cut programs and refused to keep taxes high to pay for programs?

GS, let me clarify, I mean the voters are awakening, but only in the last 7 months, so my hope is that you will see a more informed and educated vote from this point forward. It is interesting that our proposition style of democracy doesn’t seem to be working very well. Perhaps, our founding fathers knew that such pure democracy could not work. So are you in favor of a California Constitutional convention? I would be except that I know that the Democratic Party runs this State and they will use it to pay off their friends, whether they are Silicon Valley billionaires or SEIU members.

Not Martin, I truly do not understand your post or what you’re trying to say, other than that, you don’t like my “nonpartisan partisanship,” whatever that means. In terms of when voters took control – as I stated above to GS – in the last 7 months so it is a new development. And, perhaps it’s more of a wish than a reality but I do know that my neighbors and friends are finally taking an interest in our political process when in years past getting anyone to talk politics was like pulling teeth.

A constitutional convention? Hahhahahhahahahaha!
CA can't come up with a budget...how in the world do you think it can come up with a new constitution. It wouldn't be before our grandkids' retire, that much I can tell you. so take that as an indicate that I DON'T support a convention. There's nothing in CA that can't be fixed simply by making a 55% or 60% majority rule on Props & Initiatives, a flat tax and a recall of Governor Schwarzenoggin and Strickland & Company.

And the plain fact is, it won't be because the Dems don't want it...it'll be because Strickland & Company and the Republican minority will keep coming up with asinine excuses to continue playing spoilers.

Hey Phony Tony Staffer, tell us why Fraudra did not fire Angeles after he beat up on a disabled vietnam vet and young girl who were exercising their constitutional rights? Only conclusion is that Phony Tony and Fraudra hate veterans. I hope they bring Angeles up on charges and I hope those charges lead to a possible case against the Strickland's if it can be proven they directed their staffer to commit a crime.

The facts of this case will be resolved in a court of law, not on a blog, Phony.

But, why don't you take a look at the facts as presented in the Ventura County Star, the L.A. Times, and various other non-partisan venues that reported on this unfortunate incident?

The fact is that Joel Angeles was caught up in an emotionally-charged melee (at a partisan political event) that quickly spun out of control and was actually incited by the so-called "disabled veteran" and the crowd he was with that advanced towards the sidewalk towards Joel like an angry mob. The fact that the veteran (Jack Phillips) was injured when he slipped and fell to the ground has more to do with his age and fragility than anything Joel did.

But, like I said, this will all be decided when Joel has his day in court, which he deserves like anyone else charged with a crime.

The above post has absolutely no basis in fact.

How do you know? Were you there? I was.

No you weren't. Gibson you are a partisan blogger hack making up lies day and night. Everybody knows it's you and you are a fool.

One person's fiction is as good as the next one's I guess. I thought we were supposed to be talking about biking to work and reducing our carbon footprints. It seems that Strickland is at least trying to do this.

Pure fiction seems like he just wants to continue to rant about Angeles and Gibson, ad nauseum. He obviously has an unhealthy obsession with these guys.

Ok, riding my bike to daycare and work isn't gonna happen but I will put air in my tires and at least run one errand this week on my bike!

Any one else ready to commit to one ride this week?

I hope the case of Angeles does end up in a Court of law outside of VC and that they find that the Stricklands directed Angeles to beat up on a disabled vet and young girl and that this leads to a conspiracy charge against them. Phony Tony would have plenty of time for hoops in the slammer!

Well, as former President Reagan famously said - "There he goes again." This Phony Tony guy's obsession with Angeles and the Stricklands again descends to an unhealthy level. I think this guy either needs to get a hobby or a girlfriend, if the latter is at all possible.

As former President Reagan used to say "I only became a republican to get elected. Truth is these right wing nut jobs scare the h*ll outa me. I met this snot nosed punk Anthony Strickland the other day and what a freak! This kid has already drank the koolaide that Nixon was pouring, god help the people if that little sh*t ever gets elected to anything other than village idiot. Also met a punk who goes by the fake name "Good Example", he was a good example of all that is wrong with the GOP."

C'mon, Phony. Don't you remember what I told you about blogging after you've been drinking?
