Simi Valley is well known for a few memorable things:

1. Reagan Library and Museum ( Soon to actually be in Simi Valley!)

2. The Trial of the police officers in the Rodney King case.

3. Charles Manson and his followers lived in the area.

4. The location for The Little House on the Prairie, Robin Hood, and many other Hollywood productions.

5. Being a very safe city to raise a family in.

6. Bottle Village

7. The Rocketdyne Field Lab.

Enjoy the video of a group of young people exploring some caves.

In the comments section please leave a list of productions that filmed scenes in Simi Valley. Let's see how well you know this town. The more obscure the better. I will post the winner on the front page. You don't need to register to leave a comment.

Brian,
I can understand forgetting about the Rocketdyne accident... but forgetting about Bottle Village? How could you?

"The Doberman Gang" 1972

"The Cat In The Hat" 2003

I think these two films are real examples of the cinemagraphic range the Simi Valley area has.

I corrected the list adding your suggestions. I didn't forget them but didn't know how many things I should include.

Species - an alien sci-fi B pic with Natasha Henstridge and Ben Kingsley.

Joe Dirt mentions our great town!

We have the corner on stupid movies...

Where was the scenes in species filmed?

The 1982 film Poltergeist was filmed in Roxbury Street.

In the 1984 film "Bachelor Party" starring Tom Hanks.

The 1986 western comedy film ¡Three Amigos! was partially filmed in Simi Valley.

The Patrick Swayze movie "Three Wishes" used a baseball field in Simi Valley, near the Santa Susana Pass.

Invasion of the Bee Girls (1973)

The upcoming movie "Transformers 2" filmed scenes over summer in the parking lot of Simi Valley High School.

John Wayne and "Crash" Corrigan appeared together in the "Three Mesquiteers" series in the late 1930s. This still is from a 1939 production of "The Night Riders."

Vigilante Force (1976)

Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter (1966)

Star Trek episodes:

Enterprise - The scenes in the Vulcan's Forge in the episode "The Forge" were filmed at an industrial site in Simi Valley, Ventura County, in the northwest of Los Angeles.

Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country (1991) - In addition, external shots for Camp Khitomer were filmed at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute, a religious retreat in the Simi Valley in Southern California.

Coming to America (1988)

Spider-Man (2002)

The 2006 baseball-based comedy "Benchwarmers" starring Rob Schneider and David Spade shot many of the live game scenes at the Minor Division field of Simi Valley Little League at Santa Susana Park in the Knolls. Filming of the movie disrupted the league's spring season and forced some games over to Knolls Elementary School, but ultimately it proved worthwhile to the league, as the production donated a considerable of money to the league, and left improvements to the field that remain to this day (such as a uniformly sized outfield fence; and, I believe, if it is still there, an old fashioned wooden centerfield scoreboard). I coached a team on that field that season and it was a great experience for the kids. The production crews parked trucks and generators in the main park across Katherine and ran power cords across the street up into the field, for sound and lighting equipment. They pretty much took over Santa Su Park's main parking lot for a couple of weeks.

Keith,

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog. Do you have enough experience to know if Simi Valley is generally among the more friendly locations for filming as far as local government goes? There seems to be great benefits to local businesses.

Nobody,

I assume you are googling the results now. Have you been to Corriganville park?

Simi Valley's new name... Cinema Valley... Run that by Barbra.
I am Googling... Did you see "Jessie James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter"? Not being typecast as a location that's only good for monster westerns, that's the challenge. Where else could you film "Jessie James Meets Frankenstein" though?

It's a very impressive list. I didn't know about quite a few of them.

I have been to Corriganville Park. Have you been to Corrigan's Steak House in Thousand Oaks?

As I read the list the first thing I thought of is Brian didn't mention Corriganville. I don't know why our city is ignoring this diamond in the rough, it has such a rich history. I recently co-chaired a festival at Corriganville, the first public event in over 25 years. There is a great yearning from many people in this community for a revitalization of Corriganville. Unfortunately the "old timers" are being forgotten in the shadow of the Reagan Library. Corriganville should be a historical landmark. My great cousin John Wayne starred in Fort Apache at Corriganville.

Donna,
Corriganville's rich history and business development potential is being ignored because it doesn't matter in Simi Valley how fast you are with a gun. Today it matters how fast you are drawing your wallet from your back pocket and making a donation to a Republican city council member. That's why it's being ignored.

It;s such a pity. When I was doing the research for the festival at Corriganville i met a number of SV residents and old stunt actors that are very passionate about Corriganville. unfortunately they are becoming older and they are beginning to give up the fight and quite frankly passing away.

There is Camp Rotary at Corriganville which I know our City Council has helped with through their contributions to Rotary. I have also personally seen council members volunteer to clean up Corriganville.

*The Good Girl with Jennifer Aniston. The store in the film that Jennifer worked at is located on Sycamore and LA(I think it used to be a Rite-Aid).
*One of the Dos Equis "Most Interesting Man In The World" commercials was filmed at Hummingbird Ranch.
*VW filmed one of their commercials while driving along the 118.

Dude, you didn't mention the Big Lebowski man! They drive past the sign that says welcome to Simi Valley. It is a well known and established fact that the dude abides in Simi.

I wonder why Corriganville Park is so unused for more public evenst, also? Those public event could be fundraisers to get a visitor center built on the property to share the great historical, film and nature heritage of that lovely park.
You might find this article of interest on this topic. The article is about a recent park visit, LINK:
