Susan Jordan Picks Up Law Enforcement Endorsements

Susan Jordan, who is running for the Democratic Party nomination in the 35th State Assembly District, recently announced some law enforcement endorsements. For a Democrat running largely on her environmental protection background diversifying her base of support is critical. This announcement shows she is not a single issue candidate. I consider myself an environmentalist but there are many critical issues our state is going to need to deal with in the coming years.

I would like to see endorsements from people that want to reform education and from business groups next. I have invited Susan Jordan to come on here for an interview when she gets a chance. I have already interviewed Republican Mike Stoker and Democrat Das Williams.

The winner of the Democratic Party nomination is expected to be the prohibitive favorite in the general election.

Assembly Candidate Susan Jordan Earns Support of Key Law Enforcement Leaders

The Ventura County Deputy Sheriffs' Association and Oxnard Police Chief John Crombach have endorsed Susan Jordan for the 35th District State Assembly race in 2010.

"Susan is honest, direct and a great communicator. Her record pushing Sacramento to make the tough decisions for the right reasons demonstrates that she is the best candidate, hands down. Now is the time we need representatives like Susan Jordan," said Matt Findlay, President of the Ventura County Deputy Sheriffs' Association.

Association members are active and retired sworn law enforcement personnel of both the Ventura County Sheriffs' Department and the District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation. Members also include deputy sheriff trainees, provisional deputy sheriffs, and reserve deputies.

Chief Crombach, a well-respected member of the local law enforcement community, also expressed his confidence in Jordan's ability as a statewide leader.

"After getting to know Susan, I am impressed with the breadth and depth of her experience in public policy," Crombach said. "More importantly, she has a fire in her core and commitment to fight on the issues that are critical to our communities. While others talk about the challenges in the future, Susan sees a host of opportunities. We need strong leadership in Sacramento and Susan Jordan will provide us with that leadership."

After a successful career in the private sector, Jordan founded the California Coastal Protection Network (CCPN) in 1999 and serves as its executive director. CCPN is considered one of the top environmental advocacy organizations in the state and Jordan has received numerous awards for her precedent-setting work. She was also Chair of the Santa Barbara County Planning Commission.

"I have tremendous admiration for the work our law enforcement officials do. Every day they risk their lives to protect our communities," Jordan said. "So I am very deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the Ventura County Deputy Sheriffs' Association and Chief John Crombach."

It's true Susan Jordan has done amazing things in environmental activism statewide. She's taken on huge statewide issues and won.

But Susan also worked as a business management consultant for nearly 15 years, and before that as a women’s health advocate. She not only managed and supervised the staff of the research arm of a large national firm – she also taught health and pregnancy prevention to public high school students.

AND she was chair of the Santa Barbara County Planning Commission. She's the best Democratic candidate I've run into in a long time.

Obviously our local law enforcement officials have full confidence in her abilities as a legislator. And anyone who has ever watched her speak knows she can fire up a crowd.

Go Susan!

Is it just me, or is Mike Stoker kicking Susan Jordan's ever-loving a** on this on-line poll?

Voting for your own candidate over and over on a stupid online poll is not exactly comparable to great public safety endorsements. Stoker didn't even raise enough money to file a report in the last period.

Susan attended our Saturday Politico Streetside Soiree and did an outstanding job fielding some tough questioning from the attendees.

She's running for (husband) Pedro Nava's termed out Assembly seat.

We were impressed with her LOCAL knowledge about our issues, and her long term experience, all combined with common sense. She's an atypical politican, which with today's current climate, was refreshing. New perspectives...!

Stoker is depending on a coordinated effort of funding from the Ventura and Santa Barbara Republican central committees. They are both in Strickland's pocket, who will find tobacco, oil, agriculture and gaming money to fill their coffers to try and turn out the vote for him.
The two Republican chairmen from these counties are very chummy these days. They are convinced that people will be angry enough about taxes to cross party lines and vote for Stoker. That would work in normal districts, but this region knows how self-absorbed Strickland is, will see the connection and run away.

Brian, how is Susan doing with endorsements from the taxpayers who are working day and night to pay their taxes which go the the law enforcement?

Are law enforcement endorsing as private citizens or badge-wearing public employees?

Haven't taxes to local law enforcement doubled in the past ten years as the ventura county budget has doubled in the last ten years?

Where does Susan stand on releasing calfiornia water to water-starved farmers all to protect a fish.....billions of gallons of water which normally come south are being diverted to the ocean...foos isn't being grown, people are losing farm jobs

The SB person, Greg Gandrud, is well known for his environmental concerns and for his sexual orientation. It must be killing him to kowtow to the current crop of crazed Republicans.

Andy - dont fall prey to the tax issue - it is the clarion call these days and isn't backed up by action. If our lawmakers were truly concerned about saving money, they would close some offices, not give staff members raises and not abuse the court system. Save locally to save globally.

I see Katie is still whining about Angeles being found innocent of all charges last week, with her references to staff members receiving raises. Her comment on abusing the court system; however, could more appropriately be attributed to the Democratic activists (Jack Phillips and Lou Pandolfi) who brought these false charges forward and insisted on taking it to trial when it was a clear loser in court.

But, then again, the Democrats are experts at wasting the taxpayers money.

You mentioned OJ, not me. And I think there was a Republican activist involved. Next thing you'll do is gloss over the testimony of the Star photographer.

But the point is - staff members should not be recieving raises. We can agree on the fact that staff members were given raises right? And this is paid by the taxpayers right? And the overall economy is BAD - right?

Once again this thread isn't about me - it is about Susan Jordon and she is doing a bang up job reaching across the aisle.

To answer your question Andy, Susan is getting a lot of endorsements from "the taxpayer". Not sure how the law endorsement people are endorsing or what her position is on water. Is that in her district? I thought it was Klamath River up north?

If you need to discuss the outcome of the court case please go to The Star's main site or wait for me to post an entry on that subject and write my opinion.

RE: To answer your question Andy, Susan is getting a lot of endorsements from "the taxpayer"

...my definition of taxpayers are the people who DON'T work for the government

OK - so we will look at the endorsements from Taxpayers using that criteria when candidates start listing their endorsements. That will eliminated all of those elected to any office as well as any public safety person. How about unions?

Can anyone tell me why the VCRCC has not endorsed any candidates yet in the most important election this year - the Ventura City Council race?

I thought this organization's primary mission was to help Republican candidates get elected to local office. They are certainly looking more and more irrelevant in this regard as time goes on.

Katie Teague is right. They're nothing but a joke. A bunch of angry, old, white guys in Hawaiian shirts.

How many Republicans are running for City Council? How many positions are open? There might be a conflict there. Sheriff's race will also be a difficult one - there are two qualified Republicans running for Sheriff. You probably won't or shouldn't see an endorsement there either.

There are at least 7 Republicans running for Ventura City Council, including 2 of the 4 incumbents. What's wrong with the VCRCC picking 4 out of the 7 to endorse (the 4 most qualified)?

To do nothing seems negligent and remiss on their part and weakens their stature in having any affect or influence in local races. Why not disband them if they're not serving any useful purpose? There are always going to be conflicts. That's politics. They should stop being wimps, standing on the sidelines and watching the world go by.

It puts them in the untenable position of having to pick people that may have p.o.'d some of the CC members. That's what happens when the Central Committee is single candidate-centric versus community-centric. It is better when a candidate does like Jeff Gorell or Mike Stoker and remove all choice in the matter and make nice with the CC controlling candidate. In this case, some of the better Ventura City Council candidates aren't going to be bullied and they are too popular to be dismissed. Same with the sheriff's race.

Watch for some serious undervoting in the Ventura City Council election. People will just vote for their favorite and not the rest so as not to give any other candidate an advantage.
Mike Gibson will tell his followers just to vote for him and no one else.

I hear Darrin Henry is helping Gibson get his brochures out. So, no one's getting help, huh?

The arrogance of this lady to run for the office her husband was termed out of.....what more do you need to know

RE:OK - so we will look at the endorsements from Taxpayers using that criteria when candidates start listing their endorsements. That will eliminated all of those elected to any office as well as any public safety person. How about unions?

Correct.

The real taxpayers are in the private sector

The government sector are all tax recyclers....they live off of other peoples' taxes

If the Republican Central Committee has a vote to endorse candidates in the Ventura City Council race Darin Henry and his wife, who are both Cental Committee members, should abstain because they are making money off of Mike Gibson's and other races they produce collateral materials for.

Neal Andrews would abstain because he has integrity.

So the Republican county endorsement voters would include:
Chris Valenzano - former Strickland employee
Deyla Valenzano - Chris' wife
Mike Osborn - Strickland groupee
Mary Osborn - Mike Osborn's wife
Toni Strickland - Tony Strickland's mother
Alternate for Tony Strickland
Alternate for Audra Strickland

The above group, with control of the Executive Committee, control endorsements and county Republican money.

The executive director of the county party, as pointed out in earlier comments, is an amployee of the Stricklands.

Neal Andrews has been endorsed by the Ventura County Republican Central Committee, the Young Republicans and the Lincoln Club - it is on his 2009 Endorsement Page. Have the other Republicans running been offered a chance to go through an endorsement process? What is the process these days? What if a Republicans is not in good graces with the Stricklands? Do they not get an endorsement? Isn't this a diservice to the voters?

Mike Gibson didn't even interview with the editorial board of the Ventura Star. Good thing he has the endorsement of Mike and Mary Osborn of the Ventura County Strickland Central Committee.

Mike Osborn has lost 2 or 3 times for Ventura City Council. Take that endorsement to the bank....yeah sure

Mike Gibson's a pompous ass and a Strickland protege. If he gets elected to the City Council with all this behind the scenes help we know he's getting it won't be long before the CC are pushing him for another office. Vote no on Gibson.

Go check out Daniel Goldberg's blog. He's interviewing Mike Gibson on his City Council race.
