Mark Lunn's Sample Ballot Statement Rejected

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

Mark Lunn is running for County Clerk and Recorder. Among the duties of the office is overseeing elections. That's why it was surprising that his ballot statement was rejected because it violated California Elections Code. His ballot statement was rejected according to the County Elections office because of "prohibited references to other candidates." The prohibited statements implied, but did not directly mention his opponent Jim Dantona when it said:

"As the only candidate who has managed large organizations and thousands of employees, I've proven that I can balance a budget in hard times."

and

"I am the only candidate with first-hand experience in fighting fraud, forgery and identity left."

To see his entire rejected ballot statement click on continue reading. In fairness two other candidates also had their ballot statements rejected. But neither of the other candidates is trying to get elected to run the local elections office.

He will likely get his revised statement on the sample ballot.

I want a Clerk / Recorder that wants to increase registration and voter turnout. So far Mark Lunn hasn't addressed voter registration or turn out on his campaign website. Mark Lunn has an open invite to be interviewed on my blog. That goes for candidates running for any of the offices this June.

Mark Lunn

I have devoted my life to upholding the law and safeguarding the public trust. I am a decorated law enforcement officer with over 30 years experience, most recently as Chief of the California Highway Patrol.

I have the skills and experience to run this important office in a fiscally responsible manner. As the only candidate who has managed large organizations and thousands of employees, I've proven that I can balance a budget in hard times. I know how to hold people accountable, achieve efficiencies and save tax dollars.

Keeping vital records secure is one major responsibility of this office. Another is ensuring free and fair elections. I am the only candidate with first-hand experience in fighting fraud, forgery and identity left. I know what it takes to keep our records safe and our elections free of impropriety.

I am honored to have the support of the two most recent holders of this office, plus the District Attorney, Sheriff, Auditor Controller and dozens of mayors and civic leaders. They trust me because I have demonstrated the personal integrity that is essential for this office.

Now I ask the opportunity to earn your trust as well. I respectfully ask for your vote.

What a loser. He can't even get his ballot statement right or remember to vote, but thinks he should be running the elections office.

He should go back to reading traffic reports and getting coffee for Peter Foy. That's more his speed.

It is important to note that THREE candidates, a Sheriff, a Judge, and a Clerk Recorder were rejected for basically the same wording. The county sought resolution of the statements with the candidates and they have since been reinstated.

Dennert- You might want to take a closer look at Mark Lunn's website, this is a direct quote about voter registration.
"Emphasizing the importance of personal involvement in the electoral process by expanding the "Student Elections Officer" and "Adopt a Poll" programs."

What's the deal Brian, slow news day? This story is already stale and has already been discussed extensively on your blog.

Last year I practically begged you, to no avail, to create a thread to discuss the controversy surrounding some of Barbra Williamson's campaign contributions. At the time the story was being run extensively in the local media. You refused, stating, "it isn't a pressing issue, it isn't time sensitive, there isn't an election anytime soon". Yet, incredibly, you are perfectly content to continually rehash some innocuous campaign ballot statement story that was barely newsworthy when the story broke.

If you're going to use your blog as an instrument to build up one candidate and tear down another, at least try not to make it look so obvious.

Bubba,

I did in fact write an extensive entry on Barbra Williamson's campaign finance problem. I just was thinking it over and did it when I had the time, not when you were demanding it as a part of your accusations of bias. But nice try not mentioning I did write an entry on the subject. That's funny because you commented on that entry!

I added to this story by including the entire ballot statement so voters could make up their own mind. I have never claimed this blog doesn't include my opinion.

Politically Correct,

Adopt a poll and student poll worker programs are great current programs but neither addresses registering more voters or getting more people to vote. I did see that statement but it doesn't apply to my criticism. I figured they would be fixed but that wasn't my issue in the first place. A candidate running to run elections should be held to a higher standard. It isn't enough to disqualify him, but it is interesting. I am much more interested in why he won't address getting more people registered and getting more people to vote.

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog.

Does Jim Dantona have a campaign website? I haven't been able to find one.

In his press release announcing his candidacy, Dantona pledged to "improve the voting system and streamline operations in the department". He went on to say, "I will work to create more efficiency and embrace competent, proven technology that saves money and protects our records and our votes". He has also stated that he will implement cost-cutting measures, modernize operations, upgrade software, and employ new technologies.

I find it curious how a guy who has centered his campaign around implementing new technologies has somehow been unable to set up a simple campaign website. After all, campaign websites are pretty common these days, even in local elections. What gives?

Bubba, how hard could you have looked? jimdantona.com

Hmmm....

I was using google, typing in key works like "Jim Dantona" or "Jim Dantona Clerk Recorder". Try it. It doesn't return a hit for his campaign website. Maybe jimdantona.com should have been fairly obvious. Then again, if you google "Mark Lunn" his campaign website is listed first on the search results. I would think that Jim would want voters to be able to use a google search to find his website rather than assuming that they will be able to successfully guess the url.

BWAWAWAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

Character ASSASSin Bubba can't use a search engine...

And .. BTW - here is the text of the bitch session towards Barbra that Bubba claims never took place:

Lots of people care about this issue. Barbra accepted of campaign contributions that clearly violated local campaign finance rules THAT SHE VOTED FOR. For her to later claim that these rules were somehow confusing is ridiculous. It would either mean that she is unethical for violating her own rules, or incompetent for passing rules that made no sense. And yet our city attorney, mayor and other council members seem to understand those rules just fine. I also took the time to review the rules myself and found that they are are perfectly clear. Barbra's claim that the rules were somehow ambiguous is disingenuous at best, since it takes a very creative interpretation for her to even attempt to argue that the Gerson contributions were in any way appropriate.

And once again we have Barbra stubbornly insisting that she did nothing wrong, complaining that Brian somehow got the "facts" wrong. What facts are those? The city attorney investigated the matter and firmly concluded that she violated local campaign finance rules, which is the 2nd time that Barbra has been fined for ethical violations related to campaign finances. Instead of continuing this charade she should just apologize to her colleagues, to voters, and to the Ventura County Star who got the story right from the beginning.

I stated from the beginning that she should have simply returned the money and the whole issue would have gone away. This was nothing more than a display of arrogance by Barbra in thumbing her nose at her colleagues and the voters who elected her. She has lost a lot of respect within the community and, I believe, severely damaged her credibility and any hopes that she may have of being elected mayor. After reading the local campaign finance rules it wasn't difficult to predict the outcome. All of this played out exactly as I said it would.

ASSASSin...

Mark Lunn cleary shows his contempt for most of the voters in this area. We clearly cannot fill this position with someone whose hatred for Democrats is so great it prevents him from writing a truthful ballot statement.

What nonesense would Mark Lunnatic Lunn come up with once in office?

If this is a example of Mark Lunn's analytical and deductive reasoning skills he's clearly not the person we are looking for.

I sure hope the voters are paying attention.

Dear Nobody,

I find it quite funny how you can make a comment about Mark Lunn's hatred towards Democrats. If you took a look at his endorsement list you would see that, the most well known and respected Democrat in town and numerous others are backing Lunn. I would be curious to know what you thought was untruthful about his ballot statement and if you have even read it.

I agree with you on one thing, voters should be paying attention. They should be looking for someone with leadership skills and someone that knows how to manage money. I think it has been proven that Lunn has exceeded in all of those areas and his opponent has not.

In response to Schmubba, I've never denied having disagreements with Barbra, so I really don't know what you're trying to prove. Unlike some others on this blog, including yourself, I don't blindly support somebody because of their political affiliation. What I find interesting, however, is how some Dantona supporters have suddenly turned against Barbra because of her support for Lunn. My opinions of Barbra are based solely on her actions, and have nothing to do with her alliances and political endorsements.

Politically Correct,

Do you agree with my point that adopt a poll and student poll worker programs are not voter registration programs? Would you like to see both candidates address voter registration and increasing turn out?

Who is the most well known Democrat in Ventura County? I would guess it would be Rep. Lois Capps, State Assembly Member Pedro Nava, State Senator Fran Pavley or a County Supervisor. Hank Lacayo is indeed well respected but outside of political circles I don't think the average voter knows his name.

Bubba ______________

Let me make this simple for you and your ______ "change the focus so you never have to take blame for your ignorance" tactic.

You claimed that Brian posted nothing on the Williamson donation issue. You "practically begged ... to no avail, to create a thread to discuss the controversy surrounding some of Barbra Williamson's campaign contributions."

You then accused him of using his blog "as an instrument to build up one candidate and tear down another."

But your long-winded _____session regarding Barbra shows that your accusations against Brian - as with anyone else you "tear down" - are bullpuckey. They are filled with selective memory, draconian hyperbole, exaggerations, insinuations and outright lies.

All you have ever done is "tear down" candidates who stray from your narrow tunnel vision view of the world (Barbra) and those who have broken your pathetic little heart in some way (Jim).

...because you are an ASSASSin.

Golly, who uses the word "bullpuckey" anymore? Based on his last response, I think our friend Schmubba needs a reality check and some anger management counseling. Good luck with your therapy.

Brian,

While it's true that you eventually did create an entry on the Williamson campaign finance issue, the fact is that you waited a full two months after the story broke - effectively killing the discussion by waiting until interest in the story had significantly died down. And even then, the thread you created didn't exclusively focus on the Williamson controversy, since you also managed to mix into the thread a discussion about donations received by Steve Sojka and Paul Miller. At the time Williamson was a strong Dantona supporter, and it was curious how you delayed creating that thread for months, in spite of my repeated requests to discuss the topic. Interestingly enough, during that same period of time you had no problem running numerous threads that were critical of Tony Strickland.

Which is why I find it fascinating how the same blog moderator, who ignored a highly publicized local campaign finance controversy for two months, is now dwelling on a minor story involving a rejected ballot statement. In both cases your decisions on what to discuss, or not to discuss, seem to benefit Jim Dantona.

If this guy Lunn is so stupid he can't even fill out a ballot statement when he wants to run that department then I ain't voting for him! I wonder if Lunn and Bubba and the rest of the jokes at the Ventura County Republican Central Committee were at that bondage strip club in West Hollywood that the RNC donors were paying for?! The GOP has become corrupt from the top to the bottom, no wonder they are in bed with big tobacco and gambling!

Funny how the Dantona gang continually complains about attacks against their candidate, yet after just a few posts in this thread Mark Lunn (a former CHP Chief, small business owner, Thousand Oaks Planning Commission Chairman, and District 4 Chief of Staff) has already been called a "loser", "stupid", "Lunnatic", associated with a West Hollywood "bondage strip club", and characterized as someone whose job is "getting coffee for Peter Foy".

As usual, the real hatred on this blog comes from the left. Perhaps the Dantona groupies on this blog should start by practicing what they preach.

Bubba-

I used other words besides bullpuckey that were far more descriptive of your loathsome personality. But Brian deleted those because he has more patience with you than the rest of us. Why outrageous and offensive lies are allowed to be posted by you and your cronies, but offensive directed words to you are not - is his decision - it's his blog and I respect that (and he likes the traffic that your ignorance helps provoke).

But you ARE correct - there have been one or two individuals (probably the same individual) who have labeled Mark Lunn in ways that he does not deserve just as you specifically (and others) have have labeled JD in ways that he in no way deserves for 4 years (please do not ask Brian to grab those posts). The angriest attacks are not directed at Lunn at all - but to you as they should be.

Truth be told, I was never such a strong JD supporter until I encountered you and your friends on this blog 4 years ago. I have nothing against Mark Lunn - but you are a pig and an ASSASSin and who may well choke on the vomit you constantly spew.

I am speaking my personal thoughts of Mark Lunn's political views. "Lunnatic" can also be a term of endearment said by a citizen that really likes Mark Lunn.

Bubbapuckey to Bubba Kidd all the mean things she says. Why won't you let people love you Cathy?

Hey Schmubba, you are free to post examples of my supposed "outrageous and offensive lies" any time you like. Some people around here don't like what others have to say, but rather than debate the issue they instead resort to cheap ad hominem attacks. You fall into that category. You lack substance, as you can't back up what you say.

See you around.

Take a look in the mirror - you have never debated an issue here since JD began running.

I save my personal attacks for you. You deserve them.

Here is one for the road: whiny b*t*hing lying pig ASSASSin.

Schmubba,

Sticks and stones my friend.

Once again, feel free to post that list of supposed "outrageous and offensive lies". Anybody can engage in cheap name calling, hopefully you can do better than that.

Duh, I am Mark Lunnatic, duh, I want to be clerk recorder but I too dumb to even fill out my own ballot statement, duh, vote for me so I can do whatever Osborn and Foy and Strickland tell me to do, duh!

Jim Dantona's a political hack. Lunn runs circles around him in terms of qualifications for this office. This will be made increasingly clear in this campaign and Mark will coast to victory. Ad hominem attacks on Bubba won't change this fact.

Threats of death... the last bastion of a Republican..

Tony Strickland got busted again doing something unethical. Does Mark Lunn have any friends that haven't broken election laws? If Tony Strickland will break the law to get into office he will break the law once in office. We cannot have his Lunnatic friends in helping him take advantage of The People.

It will be made increasingly clear as this campaign continues that Mark Lunnatic Lunn has no business being county recorder of Ventura County.

'Dantona is Dead' was clearly a reference to Dantona's political career. Implying that this was a death threat shows how desperate the Dantona campaign has become. Besides, everybody knows that Dantona's political career is dead on arrival, which is why I have been saying for some time that Dantona should be running for County Coroner.

Dantona for County Coroner in 2012!

In the Letters to the Editor, there are some Dean/Carpenter letters and some interesting comments and connections. It has become very clear that if you want the Stricklands, vote for Lunn. If you want a Clerk-Recorder - vote for Dantona.

"VCMOD writes:
Rick Lemmo fails to disclose that he sits on the TO Planning Commission at the pleasure of his boss, developer Rick Caruso. The developers and Strickland machine politicos are working hard to unseat Linda Parks with Audra Strickland. The same people behind that effort are trying to elect Dennis Carpenter over Geoff Dean, and Mark Lunn, who also sits on the TO Planning commission, over Jim Dantona.

Vote for Parks, Dean and Dantona."

Say NO to Strickland, Carpenter and Lunn.

Agreed. No more Strickland stooges in County politics. Speaking of stooges, I see where Mike Gibson is running for a Republican Party Central Committee seat in June. I'm sure Osborn encouraged him to run to get more Strickland sycophants on the VCRCC. Disgusting!

Duh I Mark Lunnatic, me qualifyed even though I to stupide to even write ballot statement, duh. I want job so I can do what Osborn tell me like last guy in this job who try to suppress vote by telling 17 year olds they no can register voters, even though that not true. Duh me and other brainless zombie followers do what Osborn and Strickland tell us, duh, to hard to think for self, duh.

It looks like the Dantona smear machine is at it again. Dantona's goons know that their guy doesn't measure up, which is why they continually resort to their regular sleazy character assassination campaign strategy. Sorry fellas, Dantona has already destroyed his reputation in this community because of his history of engaging in gutter politics. Dantona will lose by double-digits.

See you in 2012.

Dantona Playbook,

That's what you said when Dantona was runiing against Foy.
It seems to me Dantona Won on election night and lost after Phil Schmidt and his goons made sure after 26 days Dantona lost by
845 votes. You guys kept predicting double digets 4 years ago.
Sorry no way.

Are you really arguing that the Dantona was the victim of a 'stolen' election? And I suppose that Phil Schmidt, Tony Strickland, Elton Gallegly, Mike Osborn, Rush Limbaugh, and George W. Bush were all part of this vast right wing conspiracy.

You Dantona wackos sure crack me up. Silly wackos, tricks are for kids. Ha ha ha ha!

No tricks are for any idiot who votes for Lunnatic! Great documentary on CNBC on Enron and how Enron was helped in their scam by the Bush's and by Arnold S. Not a right wing conspiracy, just the way the right wing does business, they rip off 99% of the public 99% of the time. The right hates Dantona because they hate any honest politician, they only support the one's that will do the bidding of tobacco companies and other big Wall St. firms.

Republicans wouldn't be criminals if the government was to small to catch them. All evidence of Republican crimes are a conspiracy.

Once Mark Lunn is county clerk all bets are off and with Tony Strickland as Controller and Steven Hintz as treasurer you'll be too broke to do anything about it.

Now point your rugs towards Crawford Texas while I lead you in prayer or you're a RINO.
