Dennis Carpenter's campaign has been solidifying support among Republican Party leaders and I expect we will see more endorsements rolled out over the next few weeks. With both Tony Strickland and Audra Strickland running for office I don't know how involved they will be getting but I expect they will be helping Dennis Carpenter.
It would be interesting to see if they start going after more endorsements from school board members, park board members, and even water boards. Geoff Dean has a large fundraising advantage as of now but I expect that will narrow. Will there be IE committees that will form to support Dennis Carpenter?
Does this force Geoff Dean to look for more support from Democratic groups? Over the coming months I predict Democratic activists will see where Carpenter is getting support from and start working to elect Geoff Dean.
The informed voter poll The Star reported on doesn't influence my view of the race much without seeing the questions that were asked. Sure, it is more scientific than the online polls on my blog but that isn't saying much. My polls are to gauge the intensity of the supporters of a campaign and for fun. So far this poll shows both candidates have very energized supporters.
My general policy is to leave phone numbers out of press releases unless someone requests I keep it in.
Immediate Release
Camarillo, CA--February 27, 2010California State Senator George Runner Endorses Carpenter

This is a key endorsement for Chief Deputy Carpenter as Senator Runner is a consistent advocate for crime victims and a strong proponent of law and order. Is Dennis Carpenter related to Larry Carpenter?
And this Republican "good ol' boy" support is news for what reason?
No, Dennis Carpenter is NOT related to Larry Carpenter and evidently his family doesn't appreciate having the "Carp" name purloined for this campaign.
I would like to know the relationship between the Charter Schools in Palmdale/Lancaster and the ill-conceived Charter School Vista Real in Oxnard. I know Strickland was paid by Vista Real to pimp for votes from the Ventura County Board of Education while he was still an Assemblyman and I know Runner had some kind of private Christian school interest in the Desert area but not sure if the businesses are related or not.
I do know that Runner and STrickland run a mutual endorsement racket and that Joel Angeles, Audra's Chief of Staff, is involved in Carpenter's campaign. Yet another nail in the coffin for Dennis Carpenter.
This endorsement may mean a lot in a safe Republican district like that of George Runner's Senate district, but this is an election in a blue county where that endorsement could do more harm than good.
This shows that the Carpenter campaign hasn't figured out that this is a countywide race, not a primary.
Oh & Geoff Dean already lied to us all about why he was fired from the Sheriffs Dept. He seems like a man we can NOT trust. I think a man who lies in his personal & professional life canNOT be trusted running Ventura Counties Law Enforcement. Find a new job Dean.
Geoff Dean was fired from his job because of politics. An independent commission declared he should be reinstated at his original position. He was offered a million dollars (tax dollars) to go away instead of coming back. He said no, came back as a commander (his choice), is running for office and will win.
Your post Sue is part of the "whisper" campaign and it isn't going to work. Too many people know the truth and too many people know and support Geoff Dean.
Actually if you read ALL the docs on Dean he was NOT fired for political reasons! He was found GUILTY for multiple things. That's why he was a chief & was demoted to a commander cuz he IS GUILTY. He has always been a lier & he must have you fooled.
He was not demoted - it was recommended that he be reinstated at his original position. You are wrong on this. Read the Civil Commission Report.
Sue,
Please stop filing false police reports.
Who found Geoff guilty of multiple things? Bob Brooks's testimony was found NOT reliable. So if you are refering to something Bob said it cannot be considered in this matter.
If you have a credible witness please bring them forward.
What was Brooks doing by amassing a list of possible campaign donors on a county data bank? Dean and every other county resident had/has every right to question such a secret list. At the very least makes people wonder HOW that list was to be used.
Despite the likelihood of those names already being on the public record I'm guessing Brooks simply forgot that he needed to separate his private fund-raising efforts from his official duties as the County's most visible law enforcement official. That's a most basic rule in government and if Brooks made a poor choice then, perhaps his choice of a successor is as badly thought out.
GS - it is illegal to use a public office for political campaigning - that is one of the charged facing disgraced Accessor Bill Postmus down in San Bernandino.
Dean showed exactly what he's made of, when he fought back against his politically motivated firing. He's got the hide of a rhino and the heart of a lion.
I think a lot of people, after being subjected to what he was within the department, would have just gone away, quietly taken a job somewhere else, or the big payout.
Instead this man fought back for himself, called a spade a spade and WON.
And now, even after all he has been through, he has stepped up to the plate and put himself on the line to run for public office. That's not for the faint of heart under perfect circumstances, let alone when you know there is a faction out there just waiting to slime you and your family all over again.
He's got what it takes to be the kind of Sheriff in Ventura County that we need. Everyone I know is voting for Geoff Dean - from conservatives to moderates and liberals - Dems, Reps & DTS.
Go Geoff!!
The endorsement of Geoff Dean by the VCAA (Ventura County Agriculture Association) is a much bigger endorsement.
Carpenter has had to rely on too many people from outside the county to puff up his endorsements.
You're certainly right, Laura. Except you got the spelling wrong. It should be Dean has the hide of a "RINO." LMAO!!!!!
In reviewing Geoff Dean's endorsement list it is clear that he has incredible support from both republicans and dems alike. I have to believe that George Runner endorsed Carpenter as a favor to Bob Brooks. Republican Assemblyman Camron Smyth has endorsed Dean as has many, many other elected official within Ventura County. All of the police chiefs, every rank and file law enforcement officer, Deputy Sheriff, probation officer, CHP officer and the county prosecutors have endorsed Dean. My vote and the votes of everyone in my family will be for Geoff Dean for Sheriff.
How come you didn't post my comments a couple of weeks ago?
