Sign Wars: Carpenter VS Dean

The campaign to be the next Sheriff of Ventura County will be among the top decisions voters make locally in June. I don't know about other parts of Ventura County but in Simi Valley I have seen many more signs and bumper stickers for Geoff Dean. I even saw someone at Lowe's with a Geoff Dean tshirt.

I did see my first Dennis Carpenter sign today with the line about being endorsed by Sheriff Bob Brooks on it.

How is the campaign to be the next Sheriff going in your area going? Are they regional pockets of support for each candidate?

Dennis Carpenter's campaign sent me the HTML for their Facebook Fanbox. Click on continue reading to become a fan of his campaign.

Dean and Dantona all the way.

GO GEOFF DEAN!!! (Especially after reading the 70+ comments beating up Brooks for his stupid op-ed yesterday)

If you're looking for integrity and experience, vote for Carpenter. Dean comes up way short in both of these areas.

And Mark Lunn is the man for Clerk-Recorder. Dantona is a political hack who hasn't been able to win as much as a bid for dog catcher. He's better off working behind the scenes for the likes of Linda Parks, Lois Capps, Pedro Nava, and, his wife, Susan Jordan.

Dean's campaign is going strong and every Saturday over 25 volunteers walk precincts in various areas of the County. I won't post the number of doors that have been knocked on, but as someone who has worked in a few campaigns I will say the number is the highest I have ever seen. I expect that within the next week his friend list on Facebook will top 2000, a true testament to his campaign's grassroots effort as well as his respect in the community.

I too am looking for integrity and experience, and in my opinion Dean is the candidate who best embodies those qualities. It's not just my opinion: every single independent police chief, every organization representing those on the front lines of public safety (including the Firefighters!) as well as nearly 80 elected officials from throughout the County agree that he is the best man for the job.

And by the way, when the Sheriff tried to fire Dean, one of his character witnesses was Mark Lunn. So he too is a man who's not afraid to stand up for what is right and he'll be getting my vote--even though I'm a Democrat!

Oh really Debra Creadick, tell us about that number of doors? I thought you weren't working as a political consultant anymore.

Debra and I hardly agree on anything but we both agree on Geoff Dean - he will make a phenomenal Sheriff and has unprecedented support. And Debra is not working as his political consultant.

And in a classic divergence from Debra I am voting for Jim Dantona - even though I'm a Republican!

I am proudly voting for Dennis Carpenter for Sheriff. He has the skills and most importantly the integrity to serve as Ventura County's Sheriff.

No Cred Deb: golly, I'm flattered that you actually took the time to invent a fake screen name to hide behind just for me. How brave! Must've twisted your brain to come up with that one ;)

Not a professional consultant, just a volunteer with a little bit of knowledge, and the ability to count the number of doors that have been knocked on. If you can handle columns of multiple digit numbers you don't even need a background in political consulting to add them up.

You're a Republican, Katie? I never knew that.

I have definitely seen significantly more bumper stickers for Dean than Carpenter in Camarillo, Oxnard, and Ventura areas. Actually I see several Dean stickers a day but I have not seen any Carpenter bumper stickers, although I have seen a car with large Carpenter signage covering the back window.

When driving in the fields however, I would say that as far as I can see the large field signs are about equal in numbers.

In the recent hit piece by our angry Sheriff Brooks he tried to convince voters that Geoff Dean and his opponent Carpenter are relatively equal in experience and accomplishment. What a joke! Go listen to the candidates speak. Carpenter is a parrot who simply repeats what Dean has said. Carpenter is not suited to lead that department and I don't care how unblemished his record is, the man is not a leader. The only blemish Dean has is the one the Sheriff gave him in a weak attempt to knock him out of the sheriffs race. So Sheriff Brooks, if Dean is such a bad guy why do all of the police chiefs, over 60 elected officials, our former D.A. Mike Bradbury, two former sheriffs along with every rank and file police officer, deputy, prosecutor, probation officer and Highway Patrol officer support him? You and your cronies got this one very wrong Sheriff. Everyone I talk to is voting DEAN for Sheriff.

One thing that Geoff Dean and Dennis Carpenter agree completely on............

They are both voting for Mark Lunn!!!!!

Dean may very well win but Katie is still a giant hypocrite. How does someone who champions the pro-life cause and professes to want to protect innocent human life endorse Susan Jordan who is admittedly 100% pro-choice?

Katie is scorned and it has caused an epic meltdown of character and judgment.

See the comments here for more on Katie's total failure to defend her hypocrisy:

Yeah, Katie has also made a HUGE deal out of being pro-life as well...and yet she has endorsed Susan Jordan.

Can anyone spot the common theme in who Katie decides to support?

Did anyone see a "topic" laying around here?

Sure both these candidates have law enforcement endorsements but who has endorsements from the people they've arrested? Why not some endorsements from the folks they've turned around from crime?

Sounds like a nice radio commercial doesn't it?

A little creativity will decide this race as it does most.

Katie Teague lost her mind long ago. Nobody pays any attention to her any more. She's an angry old white woman ranting against the powers that be because she was left in the dust years ago. Poor dear...

Signs the shape of squad cars.... alright I'll stop.

I like the squad car idea - you are a very clever person Nobody! I'm still chuckling over the brassroots name.

There are Dean signs everywhere. People do that when they feel it's a safe bet - especially when there's a risk angering a sitting Sheriff. Dean's going to win this in a landslide. Brooks will be disgraced and have little or no political influence in this county after June 8.

Simi Valley, like Moorpark has a sign ordinance. Most signs are within the law. But Carpenter (and Foy) push the envelope.

If the have permission by a vendor, they may post their sign within 10 feet on the entrance to the store/building. If they have permission of the landowner it may be posted anywhere on the property. Every sign (except those posted at private homes) is required to identify the individual or company granting permission.

Exxample: Yosemite at the 118 freeway exit has two signs. One by Carpenter, one by Foy. They are posted on the parkway facing the freeway exit for great visibility but clearly over 100 feet (let alone 10) from the entrance of McDonald's or the Shell gas station on the property. Foy's sign indicates permission from McDonald's. Carpenter's indicates nothing - no permission, except perhaps from Foy.

I find it odd that a man running for Sheriff is not abiding by a local city ordinance.
