Steve Sojka Launches His New Campaign Site

The election isn't until November but both declared candidates are running strong campaigns.

Steve Sojka has a new campaign site up. The page is sharp but his team made a mistake in choosing their URL. Campaign URL's shouldn't be specific to the current election so that they can be used for future campaigns. I don't know all of Steve's aspirations but he should keep his options open. Among the top search results for Steve Sojka is his old campaign site. I am sure SteveSojka.com is available for this campaign.

Steve Sojka will be a leader in our community for many years. His web presence should reflect that fact.

That said it is difficult to find much fault in a campaign that has their own music video.

Love the music video. Someone told me the other day that Simi Valley has always been 10 years behind The Valley. That would suck for whoever is the next mayor of Simi Valley.

Eric,

I know it is early but do you have a favorite in the campaign for mayor?

It's way too early. I don't enough about them yet. You?

I really like Steve Sojka's website, especially the endorsements page, and all the photos. Wow.

Hmmmmm..........Brian, I don't recall you even discusing Bob Huber"s website or promoting it like you have Steve Sojka's. I was hoping your coverage would be a little more unbiased. Am I wrong?

I love the video. Great that he found a lot of the smaller 'hidden' places in Simi. I'm surprised that the other people running haven't copied. What a great ad for Steve Sojka as part of it!

:-)

Debbie

I love Steve Sojka's website, too. The video is really impressive. I also really like the news section, with the photo, and the letter on the side. Neat touch. But I agree with the previous person, the endorsements are really impressive. I did not know about all the people on the Police Foundation, or the Leadership Simi Valley folks, or all the business people and local youth sports leaders. What a strong list this early.

I think the other guy's website was mentioned here. I kind of remember that it's where I found it. It had RSS feeds, which I never use, and it has Twitter, which is an overblown fad. I don't know anyone around here who likes it or uses it much.

Scott Santino,

That's a good question. When I posted this great video the first time I said at the end:

Next up: I issue a challenge to candidate Bob Huber. Any suggestions?

So far there hasn't been any suggestions posted. Do you have any ideas? I will gladly challenge Bob Huber when I come up with something.

As a blogger I am not obligated to always be neutral but I do like to be fair. If Bob Huber does something unique or attention grabbing I will surely cover it. I don't know Bob Huber, I have never met him, and I am not currently getting press releases to post from him. I am sure that will change as we get closer to the election.

Many candidates for nonpartisan office come to the Simi Valley Democratic Club meeting, regardless of their party. Recently they have hosted candidates for Sheriff, both of which are Republicans.

I am biased towards this video because I helped by suggesting it. I posted this entry because someone requested I link to Steve Sojka's new website and that gave me an excuse to post the video again.

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog.

Yes I have an Idea for you Brian! post the Huber Video - links to Hubers facebook
and website- I counted at least 10 links to sojkas facebook page 0 for Huber-
I cant believe the Ventura Star puts their name on this - Sojka for Mayor blog-
Brian - have you ever met or interviewed Bob Huber- How are you qualified to be speaking about this campaign at all!Did you go to the street fair and check out the candidates?
I hope anyone that comes here realizes you are only posing the Sojka info! I really
cant believe you get paid by a newspaper!I guess your bosses dont look at your page.
I wish there could be some sort of fairness in politics and voters could make decisions
based on the facts - ALL THE FACTS! Not just one sided points of view

Brian as far as your Challenge? I don't see why the Huber campaign would ever do anything
that a Sojka supporter suggests. They are keeping the Huber campaign and Promos very
professional- You posted many Sojka Videos some twice - again where is the Huber for Mayor
video that was already made and why didn't you post it?

Chad,

I posted the video:

http://blogs.venturacountystar.com/dennert/archives/2010/05/candidate-for-s-3.html

It has great production value and it was clearly done by professionals. But I don't see how it appeals those not already connected to the candidates. Do you see people that don't know either candidate forwarding it on?

Why would you accept the challenge? I'd guess because having your candidate's name at the top of the most read local political blog is worth something. I would also think because the challenge would add something of value to local politics. Kyle's video isn't of the highest production value but I like it.

As far as my professionalism I am an opinion journalist. I am under no obligation to not have an opinion. My bosses have been thrilled with my work. Thanks for bringing it up.

I try to be fair but that doesn't mean I am not including my opinion at times. As an example I offered your campaign the same challenge which so far they haven't taken advantage up.

Are you really complaining that I am promoting the video that a volunteer for Steve made when they accepted the challenge your team hasn't accepted?

if you read through the archives I have been tougher on Steve Sojka than any other blogger.

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog.

Brian , Funny you responded but didn't answer many of my questions and I don't think i am the first person to ask these things, do I really have to ask them again? have you ever posted a link to the Huber for mayor facebook page? If no, why not? have you ever posted a link to the Huber website? Have you ever met or interviewed Bob Huber? Did you go to the street fair and check out the candidates?
Why Does the Huber campaign have to except your challenge in order for you to post all of their information?Bob Huber on a skateboard? Really? Im not complaining that you post the Sojka video's i think if you support a candidate you should do all you can! How many "challenges" did they except? lots of stuff posted by you!
I don't see how this entire blog appeals to those not already connected to the candidates,
and here mainly Sojka, if someone came here and didn't know anything about either candidate
could they find all the info and links from here - NO - I want people to make decisions based on all the info - yes everyone should know Huber does have a facebook page and website because you cant find them here.
As far as your professionalism, you didn't say much, an "opinion journalist"
your hosting a blog about the election for mayor of Simi Valley, It really is about
two candidates, it doesn't seem like you have put much time or energy into doing research
about any of the candidates?I guess anyone that comments could say they were an "opinion
journalist"

You say you try to be fair, but i just don't see any bit of fairness ,
its pretty obvious who you support, and why you wont just say it, Im not sure?

I support Bob Huber, he will be the peoples mayor, he listens to the people , because
he is one of them, Honest, great guy!

Chad,

I requested the HTML for a fanbox from your campaign. They had problems sending me the HTML. How are you blaming me for that issue? Go talk to your campaign team. I don't see why you keep blaming me for that issue. I am sure there are tutorials online that can explain it for you.

I have linked to your campaign's website. Your campaign doesn't send me press releases like many other campaigns do. I did post pictures from the Street Fair but do you really think any recent developments should be posted before the June 8th primary? Then why not send out some press releases.

I posted one challenge to a volunteer for Steve Sojka's campaign and he accepted it. No, I didn't go to the street fair. It is a great event but I had better things to do that day.

I don't care much for generalities like who has experience, who listens, and who is a great guy. Seems to me both of the candidates will listen and have a background in government.

Let's move to policy instead. Does your candidate support pension reform for the police and other city workers. Will your candidate apply for ARRA money? Will your candidate fill vacancies with people that will then run as incumbents? Does your candidate believe we need to slow the population growth of Simi Valley?

Brian: it is suggested that you send some cheese to Chad, to go along with all that whine.

Chad: Please keep writing. You are an asset to the Sojka for Mayor campaign.

what Im blaming you for Brian is not spending any time or energy doing any research
yourself about the two candidates- Your hosting this blog but any info you post must be sent to you?, you cant find any links yourself? you still haven't explained why no facebook link- you have been sent the link but refuse to post it - I have asked this three times! still no answer- is it really hard to find the Huber website or other links yourself -
All the questions you are asking - why - you should ask the candidates those questions-
you still only answer certain questions about yourself, again have you interviewed any candidates about this election?have you ever met The candidates? you are the "journalist" it seems like you just keep making excuses - cant you
just be honest and say you post many things for sojka because you support his campaign !
and you refuse to post things for Huber because you don't support him - again just wish there
could be some amount of fairness - and honesty, from a website by a newspaper -

Chad,

I have been asking for a Facebook Fanbox over and over again. Why not send me the HTML? Do you need help on how to generate the code. I don't post links to Facebook pages when I can post a Fanbox. All of this time you have spent complaining you could have used to send me the HTML for the Fanbox.

I haven't refused to post pictures or links.

I posted pictures of the Street Fair here:

http://blogs.venturacountystar.com/dennert/archives/2010/05/simi-valley-str-3.html

Your campaign video here:

A link to your website here:

The campaign announcement here:

Meanwhile your campaign had another announcement today and I didn't get a copy of the press release. How come?

You can't complain about bias if you won't send the basics to a blogger.

I am not making excuses for your campaign choosing not to send me press releases. It doesn't make sense to me though why you want to make it harder on bloggers to cover you.

I will vouch for Brian Dennert - he does post what is sent to him in the way of Campaign press releases, facebook stuff, videos, dog pictures, etc.
