Bob Huber has officially filed for mayor and has sent out a press release outlining the themes of his campaign. Click on continue reading to see the full press release.
His themes include:
Requiring companies that contract with the city or do business in the city to use the e-verify system for their employees.High power endorsements of elected officials like State Senator Tony Strickland (R), Rep. Elton Gallegly (R), and School Board Member Rob Collins (D). Rob Collins has long been Simi Valley's most prominent elected Democrat. Add to that his endorsement from former Ventura County Democratic Party Chair and Bob Huber has the most legitimate claim to running a bipartisan campaign.
Creating a volunteer ombudsman position to help businesses with city regulations instead of creating a paid position.
Monthly Townhall meetings for citizens to speak with their elected officials. If Bob Huber feels strongly about this issue he should speak to his prominent backer Rep. Elton Gallegly since Gallegly doesn't hold townhall forums. All of the other Representatives in this region, of both parties, except Gallegly hold townhall forums. Gallegly does make public appearances at Republican Party and Tea Party events but he doesn't hold town hall forums.
I'd like to know more about his thoughts on working with the school district to help public education, his position on the proposed landfill position, and if he supports the major renovations of the Arroyo.
I was invited to an upcoming Team Huber event and I told them I would attend if I can take pictures and ask Bob Huber a few questions like I did at the Team Sojka event.

Huber Files Nomination Papers for Simi Valley MayorFriday afternoon, August 6, Bob Huber filed his nomination papers to run for Simi Valley Mayor, at the Simi Valley City Hall.
"I am honored that hundred of citizens, numerous elected officials and many community business leaders are supporting my efforts to bring renewed leadership to City Hall.," said Bob Huber.
As a candidate for the past several months he has been promoting transparency in City Hall, promoting a free ombudsman program to help our citizens and institute the E-Verify system to create jobs for Simi Valley residents. Huber has been promoting monthly town halls, so that government comes to the people instead of the people needing to go to the government.
"It is important that city government become open, transparent and helpful to the people of our community. An Ombudsman program can be developed, at no cost to the taxpayers. The alternative is a program costing a minimum of $160,000 per year," Huber said.
"Presidents from George Bush to Barack Obama have created, implemented and used the E-Verify system to limit the ability of undocumented workers from getting jobs meant for legal residents and citizens. The Department of Defense and Homeland Security mandates the use of E-Verify. Over 200,000 companies use the system and dozens of California towns. "Would President Obama, President Bush, and two major government agencies use a system that is 'unreliable' -- as some have called it," said Huber in support of his proposal.
Bob Huber is supported in his race for Mayor against a twelve-year city council incumbent by hundreds of Simi Valley residents, small business owners, and elected officials such as Congressman Elton Gallegly, State Senator Tony Strickland, Assemblywoman Audra Strickland, School Board Member Rob Collins, former Simi Mayors Senator Cathie Wright (Ret.) and Greg Stratton, along with the Ventura County Professional Firefighters Association.
Huber wanted to make clear this was going to be a clean race, based on issues and policies, not personalities, "The people of Simi Valley deserve a clean campaign where the voters can talk directly with me, reach me via email or the Internet. They need to feel free to ask questions and deserve direct answers. I look forward to serving the people of my hometown, Simi Valley."

Ooh, I like the e-verify proposal.
I wonder if Farmers leaving Simi will become an issue in the race? I read that Miller is putting a Red Team together to address it, where was the Red Team before they decided to leave? Could the City have stopped them or was it a done deal?
What did Peter Foy do now?!! Why is Farmers leaving was it a conflict of interest with Peter Foy on the BOS because we will have a special election next week and kick him off the board immediately.
How did this happen without Simi Valley getting a chance to put a special deal together? L.A. county is guilty of unfair bargaining.
Farmer's decision was based solely on the numbers and we shouldn't be very surprised when we hear that the City Council knew it was happening long before now.
If Foy and the rest knew it was coming why didn't they do anything about it like trying to get folks in Simi making phone calls etc to Farmers?
I never said Foy knew anything. And as for whether or not the others knew anything, you'll probably have to wait til after the elections to hear.
In any event, what sort of deal could the City possibly make? Farmer's is probably consolidating its work force and downsizing all over SCal and looking to save itself scores of millions in salaries, benefits and overhead. Simi Valley can't offer anything that will affect those sorts of numbers...except a West End business park. But that will never happen after WMI expands its landfill operations.
Maybe Farmer's is WMI's first casualty.
I think Farmer's believes they can expand their auto and business insurance division by locationg in the Valley. And they are right short term. There is a bigger cheaper candidate pool and the economy is bad it's a great time to leverage it against the American worker. The problem is three to five years from now. They are going to lose those good employees to a Zenith, Traveler's, or the next Industrial Indemity to come along.
Open satelite offices in the valley be nimble like the competition.
How about a Farmer's sign on Happy Face hill and two more along the freeway? Think what that could do for sales. Let's come up with some long term ideas as a community.
GS. So Foy knows nothing? Good point! Do you think this Farmers debacle will cost Sojka, Becerra and Foster in the election? Could Huber have done anything differently?
And I thought I was being subtle.
I think Farmers' relocation is a non-issue.
But Mayor Miller said he is now putting a "Red Team" together to find a new tenant that will employ over 1,200 people. If he can actually do this, doesn't this become an issue in the race? Any chance WMI will buy the building and use it to store all the trash that will be coming to Simi from Los Angeles?
I never meant to say that the Farmers' matter couldn't become an issue...if someone with a creative knack for PR & communications were ready to make it so...only that right now it isn't. If Miller could wrangle up a tenant with 1,200 new jobs to fill the building OR if it was merely announced that promising negotiations were underway to do so, it would become a big plus for him and the Council in Nov.
If Miller could wrangle up 1,200 jobs he would have done so a long time ago. This is going to have very negative impacts on Simi Valley's economy. From the Mom and Pop shops to real estate.
Stop letting politicians treat you like mushrooms.
Those figures are a little high, the food shops around there has never stated they serve that many meals to Farmers. That parking lot has been almost empty for years now. If Miller had stated 500 employees are lost it would be more truthful, someone must have given him some bad #'s to give out.
BTW, why has this City fixed it so there are No MOM & POP shops around here anymore. They have fixed the Zoning so if you have a building that sits empty for long periods of time it has to be Razed.
Mom and Pop's shops can't afford to pay off the Simi Valley olde boyz network big retailers and Indian Casinos can. oops. Nevermind that. Audra Strickland said not to say anything.
Let's be clear. I don't know anything about the Farmer's Insurance building being turned into a fabulous hotel and casino.
Thank You
Bob Huber for Mayor!!
