Ventura County Star Reporter Timm Herdt has some early analysis on what redistricting might do to Ventura County. Simi Valley might be put in legislative districts with the San Fernando Valley instead of the rest of Ventura County.
Go to his blog to read the details.
If it becomes a Democratic leaning district I expect Gallegly will retire instead of campaigning to a new group of voters that don't align with his conservative ideology. Being that he doesn't hold open and scheduled townhall forums he doesn't seem to have the energy for a competitive election.

Congressman don't retire... They just slowly enjoy their Congressional lifestyle.
We; as Americans' can no longer be satified with a Congressional butt kisser and rubber stamp. The Nation has challenges that require a Congressman who does more than Elton Gallegly can do. The GOP is Elton's godfather and the GOP's obsessesion with power and wealth has blinded them of the needs of the American people and they've abandoned this Nation's promise to humanity.
*I'm know prepared for ignorant Republican name calling and threat's by the Republicans who have read this.
In a word - No!
In a sentence - Yes; because the 24th district was last designed by radical conservatives to favor a kiss ass do nothing Republican career politician like our Congressman Elton Gallegly.
Of course he will retire rather than lose. Timm Herdt is right that the GOP can no longer hide from their policies and from demographics in California. They have pissed off minorities, the young and now thanks to the Ryan plan to destroy medicare to keep giving tax cuts to billionaires they have pissed off seniors. Hasta La Vista baby! Speaking of Arnold hopefully there will be an investigation over his secret meetings with Enron during the height of Ca energy crisis. If it can be proved that Arnold, the GOP and Enron acted in concert to drive up prices and to drive Davis out of office they may be able to use the RICO laws.
He won't resign. He'll be reelected in a landslide, as usual.
These libs crack me up. Trying to create drama where none exists. Yawn.....
Elton has served this district extremely well. The voters have recognized this time and again, as evidenced by his resounding victories in election after election.
Terry sounds like a typical republican sheep, refuses to think or look at the facts. This conservation is about if Elton's district changes so that a majority is suddenly democrats. Elton has won because he has a majority of republicans due to gerrymandering. Dems have always voted against Elton and if they make up the majority they will vote him out. Elton may find he no longer even lives in his District, he would then have to decide if he wanted to sell his mansion or pull an Audra Strickland and rent an apartment for the address only. If nothing changes at all then Elton runs and wins, but his district is going to change big time!
Hopefully now the 24th Congressional district can get a Congressman with a college education.
Maybe Elton Gallegly and Audra Strickland can go into selling realestate together. The only thing they ever did was put up election signs, lie, and ask people for money anyways. It should be a seamless transition for them.
Terry,
I said I think he would retire, not resign. Your analysis is based on the flawed logic that the district won't be changed much. Are you really arguing if there is a 14% registration swing in the district and the new district is Simi Valley plus parts of Los Angeles county there won't be a major impact on the results?
Your partisan talking points are inaccurate and boring.
And your partisan talking points are equally boring, Dennert! Elton Gallegly has extremely high name recognition inside and outside his district.
If you did a little non-partisan research you'd understand this. But, instead, you continue to parrot the other dual names on your blog (i.e., Everybody/Of Course!/Everybubba) by reciting the Democrat Party mantra that a 14% shift in voter registration will result in Gallegly meekly retiring from Congress. Not on your life!
Have you looked at the margins of victory that Elton continues to produce election after election? Even with the 14% voter registration swing (which I highly question the accuracy of), he will still trounce any newcomer Democrat that decides to take him on.
When are you going to post a piece on the change in voter registration in Lois Capps's district? My guess is never because that would alienate your buddies (or should I say buddy?), Everybody/Of Course!/Everybubba.
Terry (also 10 other fake names) has his head so far up Elton's behind he can tell us what Elton had for dinner. With these republican sheep you cannot have a logical conversation because they cannot and are not allowed to think for themselves. They are sheep and sheep follow the heard and run from the barking dog. It will be fun to watch Elton's reaction when the new Districts are released on June 10. The republican sheep really should stick to the Inge blog where fantasy is accepted as reality.
This numskull, Of Course! (and all the other fake names he/she/it uses), is a glowing example of the Democrat Party's baah, baah, black sheep that follow Obama and buck-toothed Michele around like they're some sort of god & goddess.
Just because he is the first black President doesn't mean he deserves to be placed on a pedestal for all the adoring Democrats who can't think for themselves to worship. He needs to prove himself all the more as a world leader and, up to now, he just plain hasn't. He piggy-backed on Bush's interrogation techniques to locate Obama and then (after much ado) killed him. Big deal!!!
He has a lot of work to do on fixing an economy that he is largely responsible for destroying over the last 3 1/2 years. As Ricky used to say to Lucy, come next year, "You got a lot of splainin' to do, Hussein."
LOL! "Piggy Backed on Bush's interrogation techniques"
I won't quote all Terry's nonsense because I would have to repeat the whole worthless thing.
It's amazing how blantant some people are in being biased towards a political party. Blaming President Obama for destroying economy? This criminally ignorant.
If this is the intellect of this blog; I'm sorry Brian, I won't be able to recommend it to others.
Good riddance, Todd! Your contributions here were obviously going to be de minimus anyway. LMAO!!!!
Early word is that Elton will now find his district is democratic by 7 points! Let us know when the retirement party is Elton! LMAO!!!!!
Earlier comments by Dennert claimed it was a 14% swing to Democrat Party registration. 7% is actually good news for Elton. See you at the victory party!
Ask yourself this question:
If were a business owner and had an employee making $174,000/yr.; yet you can't figure out what or if he does any work, would you keep him on the payroll?
If they answer is no it's time to fire Elton Gallegly. Elton Gallegly doesn't even show up to his own Town Hall Meetings! As a matter of fact Elton Gallegly hasn't held a town hall meeting or any event where his constituents could ask him questions in the court of public opinion.
Being a Bush Republican and taking part in the attempted destruction of the United States and freedom it's no surprise since Elton Gallegly is a chicken hawk coward.
It will be great to finally have a democratic congressperson! It looks like the new maps will mean a pickup of three dem congress seats statewide, five dem state senate seats and four dem assembly seats! I'm sure glad all those republicans voted for re-districting!
You're a big liar, Todd. Elton will be reelected handily because idiots like you will put forth people like Marta Jorgensen and Ferial Masry to run against him.
You Democrats couldn't win a seat on the Dog Catcher Committee. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, this Terry person is really in complete denial of the facts. Elton is about to have his 9 point advantage lost and replaced with a 5 point advantage for democrats. It will be the dts though who will decide and they don't like the fact that Elton voted to turn medicare into a private voucher system. Personally I think Elton will retire rather than face getting beaten. Also with the district leaning dem I'm sure some big name democrats will jump in and they will be well financed.
Hello fellow bloggers,
I have been posting on political blogs asking Republicans and Democrats to be friends. We face challenges that it will take our whole Nation to take on.
Let's put our egoes aside and take care of these urgent issues.
What about this whole Weener-gate situation? What a disgraceful jerk this guy is! And the arrogant bastard doesn't want to resign even though Nancy Pelosi and many others in the Democratic leadership in Congress want him out of there. They've even requested an ethics investigation because many of the women he harassed on-line claim that he called them from his private Congressional phone line. Unbelievable!!!
Hope he has fun explaining to his wife (an aide to Hillary Clinton) why he felt the need to whip his johnson out on Twitter. At least Hillary can console her - having been there herself on many occasions being married to "Slick Willie." This guy will go the way of Eliot Spitzer, John Edwards, and Bill Clinton. He'll always be remembered as a philandering loser, despite anything good he might have done elsewhere in his life.
United We Blog is right. We need to stop turning ourselves in for playing with our weeners and fight back. We're losing our Country.
You are right Everybody. These guys like Terry focus only on Weiner and ignore all of the right wingers who have been caught recently in the same or much much much worse situations. We all need to come together and focus on making this a better Country and that starts with getting democrats elected to Gallegly's, Strickland's and Gorell's seats.
It would be embarrasing if history looked back and saw what We spent so much time arguing about. It is as if the many of Us believe there aren't any dangers or important enough issues to discuss than each other's flaws. What if We spent as much time on each other's strengths and working together?
I don't think we'll ever be able to eliminate humor from American politics but We do have the ability to prevent it from becoming our greatest strength.
Yeah, and why don't we all join hands and sing Kumbaya while we're at it? What planet are you people living on?
We're in the political fight of our lives here trying to take back the White House from someone who has used it as a vehicle for his Socialist agenda. We all need to think seriously about where our country is heading right now. It's losing its stature as the "shining city on the hill," as Ronald Reagan so aptly put it.
By all means, we should be discussing the personal failings of our leaders out in the open. The character, or lack thereof, that has pervaded modern day politics in America is astounding. We need to hold these guys and gals accountable for everything they do. The personal character defects of a guy like Anthony Weener reflect his attitude toward his fellow human beings, such that it renders his credibility null and void as a national leader.
He should resign immediately and I think he actually will, as the lurid details of this story continue to unfold.
Obviously this guy Terry can think of nothing but Weiner. Weiner should resign now, unlike Larry Craig who finished out his term even though he was busted in a mens room stall and then called a police officer a liar and after making up his wild wide stance story, of course Terry forgets this and only cries about Weiner. We are though in a political fight. If the GOP regains control they will bring their far right extremist policies to bear on the American people. These policies only benefit the richest 1% of Americans, if these fascists regain control they will take Medicare and Social Security away from everyone including senior citizens who are already receiving these benefits in order to give even larger tax breaks to billionaires. They want to wage class warfare against the middle class and poor. It is time for change, time to give super majorities to democrats in the House and Senate. If the GOP regains control they will push the Country into a depression the same way they did in 1929 and again in 2008!
I don't expect those who make their money in politics to understand. I don't expect Ingemunson or Goofberg types to get it. I do believe the American People get it and they are the ones who matter.
No, you're right, there are more people to talk about than Anthony Weener.
We've got Bill Clinton and the infamous blue dress, dripping with his DNA.
We've got John Edwards, boffing a young thing on the campaign trail, while his wife sat home and battled cancer.
We've got the shameless Eliot Spitzer, holing up in high end hotels with a litter of hoes at his beck and call.
We've got old Teddy Kennedy, who drove his little fling off a bridge and into a river, so that she wouldn't ruin his political career. As if this wasn't enough, he testified in defense of his nephew who was accused of rape, invoking his family history to win over the jury.
We've got Gary Condit, who had his little intern plaything bumped off so she wouldn't ruin his political career.
We've got Barney Frank who hired a male prostitute who ran a prostitution service from Frank’s residence in the 1980s.
I can go on. There are a lot more...
Are you touching yourself because it sure sounds like it.
