Carla Bonney seems angry to me. She seems quirky, impulsive, and overly aggressive. The city of Ventura doesn't mind quirky as long as it's passionate and creative. The city council isn't always exciting and if it is something's usually wrong. In these tough times I ask the city of Ventura to elecct the most capable. It's not time to be experiment with radical ideas. Or some get back from the Mike Gibson's out there with anger issues towards those on the council today. It's time for experience and talent.

Carla Bonney is an extremely credible candidate for City Council and I believe she will get lots of votes in this election. The people commenting here are obviously in favor of a continuation of the status quo in Ventura. The status quo in Ventura has brought the City's finances to its very knees, resulting in the closure of a popular City library, closure of a much-needed fire station, and deterioration of streets, roadways, medians, and City parks.

Christy Weir and Carl Morehouse are largely responsible for the demise in City services due to their poor decision-making and the wasteful and downright dumb spending practices they have been party to during their tenures on the City Council.

Carla Bonney and Bill Knox offer us the opportunity to make some much-needed changes at City Hall, one of which will be to fire Rick Cole which is long overdue. Let's do what's best for our City in the November election and hand Weir and Morehouse their walking papers.

The nationwide economic downturn has affected every single municipality in the country. Ventura has a balanced budget and the fire station you speak of will be open again soon, thanks to a federal grant facilitated by Rep. Lois Capps. Ventura has a very good library downtown and two satellite libraries. Sales tax revenues are up. New retailers have come to Ventura and the expanded medical district will bring many new high-wage jobs.

The last thing we need is Tea Party candidates Carla Bonney and Bill Knox to bring their brand of radical extremism to Ventura, or any community for that matter. The Tea Party is a fringe group which the majority of Americans don't approve of. Its influence on certain members of Congress has been disastrous.

Voters want moderate, sensible candidates. That wouldn't be these two.

I find "Reality Check's" comments that Carla Bonney and Bill Knox will bring "radical extremism" to Ventura to be quite humorous. What they'll actually bring is common sense to a City Council that has been fraught with horrible decision-making that has exacerbated the City's economic troubles moreso than any other City in Ventura County causing library and fire station closures and deterioration to the City's basic infrastructure, particularly its streets and parks.

Change is upon us and will be evident in voter turnout in November where we will see changes to the City Council. Out with Fulton, Weir and Morehouse and in with Bonney, Knox and Cozzens.

How many more Americans must die to satisfy Rand Paul?! It has also come out that the first loans made to Solyndra Solar happened under the Bush Administration. Latest polls also show Obama winning in every swing state.

President Obama and his Socialistic Energy Department are being called on the carpet now for guaranteeing $528 million in loans to a solar panel manufacturing company, Solyndra, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September. This was after numerous warnings and signals that this firm was about to go belly-up, including an incriminating audit issued by Price-Waterhouse that warned of the approaching financial meltdown of Solyndra.

Still, the Obama Administration blindly marched forward with the full faith and backing of the U.S. Treasury to support this failing company. There is a 40% failure rate for new firms in the solar energy market, yet the dumb/naive Obama, the ignorant libs in Congress, and their cheerleaders in the global warming hoax community are all ready to sink our tax dollars into these scam-based energy companies.

Carla Bonney is a local Tea Party organizer who has actually done some pretty amazing things during the short time she has been involved in politics at the local level. One definitely worth mentioning is the "Remove the Downtown Parking Meters" ballot measure, for which she obtained over 10,500 signatures to qualify it for the November ballot.

However, slimy City Manager, Rick Cole, and his lap dog City Attorney, Ariel Calonne, conspired to have a judge kick this measure off the ballot. What were they afraid of?

They were afraid it would pass, of course, thereby making Cole look like an idiot, as well as the City Council members who voted for it. It's much easier to have a judge sweep it under the rug.

Be sure to vote for Morehouse and Weir and don't vote for TEA PARTY NUT CARLA BONNEY! Rumor has it Bonney thinks that the U.N. and aliens are conspiring to take over Ventura with the parking meters! LOL!

Weir and Morehouse served on the City Council when they made the decision to invest $10 million in City funds in high risk corporate notes with Washington Mutual and Lehman Brothers. No other city in Ventura County made this kind of dumb investment decision. In fact, all the other cities and the County of Ventura have policies in place that explicitly prevent this kind of risky investment.

But Ventura, in its wisdom, chose to roll the dice and thus lost $10 million of taxpayer funds that could have been used to keep some critical services funded after the economy tanked.

Weir and Morehouse need to be held accountable for their actions. Vote them both out on November 8!

Carl Morehouse is a man of detail. With his background working as a planner for government for 30 years and his 12 years sitting on the council, very little gets past him. If you want to get into the nitty gritty of government function, Morehouse will give you an earful. His institutional knowledge and experience working, not only on the city level, but also with various state committees, makes him the right person to continue as councilmember.

To date, Morehouse’s accomplishments on the council include the efforts for the beautification of downtown; infrastructure improvements, including better access for people with disabilities; better signage for upcoming projects; and revising the housing allocation program to better accommodate all income types.

We hope that Morehouse will keep a watchful eye on Ventura’s budget and how monies are being spent so that the council can avoid various problems such as closing important facilities. He admits remorse about the 911 fee, so we feel he will avoid such a mistake in the future. He also demonstrated strong leadership qualities in voting against pay and pension increases for firefighters, even risking losing their endorsement, though he secured it this election season.

We endorse Morehouse with the hope that he will continue working toward improving the quality of life for residents and that the time he gives to various other committees, such as Ventura Council of Governments and the League of California Cities, will be fruitful for the city of Ventura.

Christy Weir — keeping the balance
For the last eight years, Christy Weir has stood her ground, not only as a leader with a passion for balance, but as the only woman on the council. She is known for being diplomatic and, some may say (she even said it herself), motherly qualities.

As a councilmember, her reach has been felt throughout the city. She founded the Serra Cross Conservancy, which has kept the ideal location open to visitors. She was also one of the founding members of Downtown Ventura Organization and has consistently kept a watchful eye on the happenings in the area while seeking solutions to solve problems to maintain a healthy district, including putting an end to aggressive panhandling. Her goals include working on the vagrancy issues, deferred maintenance throughout the city and improving Seaward Avenue business district.

Weir has demonstrated that she is capable of being a good leader, even when the odds are against her, including going against the majority of the council on pay and pension increases for firefighters at the onset of the economic meltdown. As a voice of reason and playing the watchdog for better amenities for families, we feel she is a valuable member of the community and should remain on the council.

Bill Knox — a fresh perspective
We have been following Bill Knox through the last two election cycles. We didn’t feel he was prepared to take a seat on the council the first time around, this year we decided that Knox’s perspective might be a refreshing change at City Hall. Although endorsed by factions we don’t agree with (Tea Party, Republican), these positions are supposed to be nonpartisan and we like this guy.

Over the last few years, Venturans have been fairly vocal about their feelings on the way the city has been run. The main issue — the city isn’t managing its finances very well. With the failure of the half-cent sales tax initiative in 2009, residents maintained that they didn’t feel the money would be spent effectively and efficiently. The closure of Fire Station 4 and the Wright Library and the discontinuation of the gang unit with the Ventura Police Department, among other public services and programs, left locals frustrated about the city’s ongoing budget issues. With Knox on the council, however, with his background as a tax attorney and his work with the Ventura County Taxpayer’s Association, we feel that he may have the expertise to scrutinize the budget and save vital services without asking more from area residents.

While Knox hasn’t personally tried to overhaul the city’s budget and work on labor contracts, he brings up some good points. For instance, why did the city pay $89,000 to install the Palomar Gate near Ventura High School? He also questioned spending $320,000 on a wheelchair ramp at City Hall. While city officials didn’t discuss the high cost when they voted unanimously to approve it last month, Knox feels such expenditures need to be thoroughly investigated and talked about in a public forum before voting on them. He also feels that city employees should pay the full nine percent toward their retirement. Labor negotiations are difficult but are still needed to avoid an unsustainable future.

Having lived in Ventura for 21 years, and most recently, living on the East End and serving on the East Ventura Community Council, he seems to have a handle on local issues and Ventura’s evolution. We hope Knox, if elected, will be the budget watchdog he promises to be and a voice for a community that is not represented now.

Cheryl Heitmann has lived in Ventura for less than a year and she considers herself qualified to serve on the City Council? I don't think so! She is merely a plant by the liberal majority on the Shitty Council to pick up where Bill Fulton left off. She will come in fifth or sixth.

The Star has endorsed MOREHOUSE, WEIR AND HEITMANN! So long Bonney and Knox, maybe you can get a ride back to Area 51! LMAO!

The Red Star has been wrong many times before with their endorsements. In 2009, they endorsed Ken Cozzens - who lost. In 2007, they endorsed Doug Halter - who lost.

I think Bill Knox and Carla Bonney are going to do quite well in this election. The people in Ventura are fed up with what's been going on at City Hall.

A lot of negative stuff has occurred since the last election, including: a closed library; a closed fire station; pension enhancements granted to firefighters while other city employees are being laid off; the City Council's endorsement of pulling the parking meter measure off the ballot so that the people could decide the issue; bad decisions regarding service cuts (letting the parks go to hell and the street medians turn into jungles); and much, much more...

Looks like Bonney and Knox are in the 1% because that is how much of the vote they will both be getting! HAHAHAHA!!!!!

We'll see, loser. People in Ventura are not inclined to reelect people who closed their library, closed their fire station, and denied a much-needed senior housing development project after the Planning Commission and Design Review Committee had approved it with flying colors.

The developers are now suing the City for breach of faith and I hope they wins big bucks in the settlement. That will teach these lame brains that they can't continue denying property owners the right to use their property as is provided for in the Constitution. Rick Cole needs to be sent packing too for his role in this debacle (and many others over the years).

When Morehouse, Weir and Heitman win I expect you to go to the first meeting they are at and bow down to them loser and apologize for being a looney.

I will be happy to attend the first meeting for our newly-elected Councilman Knox and Councilwoman Bonney. Morehouse and Weir are responsible for Ventura's demise from a once great city to one that its citizens hardly recognize anymore.

Cheryl Heitmann has lived in Ventura for less than a year. She has no business even running for City Council. The only reason her name is on the ballot is the establishment/insiders at City Hall decided that she was the best person to carry on the crappy policy-making of Bill Fulton who bailed because he could read the writing on the wall.

Carl Morehouse and Christy Weir are part of the problem. They will both be seeking other offices after November 8th. Good riddance!!!
