The field isn't officially set for the Ventura County based CA-26 Congressional District but the campaigns have been busy.

On Saturday I was honored to be the host of a program put on by Conejo Valley Democrats called Eye on the issues. They asked me to introduce these three candidates and ask them questions from club members. Democrat Jess Herrera was invited but did not attend. I am not sure why.

The program will play on local cable access and then it will be posted on YouTube.

When the video is posted I will post that and include more of my thoughts.

Some quick thoughts:

1. Reading from a Teleprompter for the first time was interesting. Made much more interesting because I took some strong cold medicine before the show.

2. I am honestly not sure why I would vote for yet. The top two primary system makes strategic voting complicated.

3. I'll ask each for an interview in the future so I can ask them more specifics. If you are running for office and would like to be interviewed online let me know. I like asking specific questions that give candidates the time to think.

I deleted your comment. I often do when people bring up the appearances of candidates. Besides, they weren't your true feelings. If you think Bennett is too old how is it you were so excited to support Gallegly recently?

Try to consider focusing on issues. Do you know where the candidates stands on SOPA, DADT, DOMA, RTTT, or Afghanistan? I bet you can't provide evidence of the views of the different candidates on those issues.

I've never seen you delete one comment about Tony Strickland's appearance. There have been numerous postings over the years comparing him to Frankenstein and other insulting and denigrating comments. You must find them humorous because you never delete those comments.

And, yes, I do happen to know how some of the candidates stand on some of the laws and policies you mentioned. However, many of them haven't publicly weighed in on some or all of them yet (at least to my knowledge).

Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) -- I believe there are some free speech issues associated with the currently proposed bill, so I don't think it's going to advance in Congress until some significant changes are made to it.

I believe Bennett has come out against it and I don't believe Strickland has taken a position on it yet. Gallegly supported it early on, but I think he has reconsidered his position (and wisely so).

Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) -- Bennett is opposed to it and Strickland is in favor of it. I think it is a good federal law that defines marriage as between a man and a woman only. In fact, many States have passed legislation concurring with this federal law (including California - twice). However, liberal/activist judges keep sticking their noses into it and overturning the will of the people, as they did with Prop 8 in California.

Race to the Top (RTTT) -- Not sure how Strickland stands on this federal grant program, but I would hope that Bennett, being a former teacher, would be in favor of it. It sets academic standards, measurements, and assessments for achievement and advancement of students from high school to college. It also works to recruit, develop, award, and retain effective teachers and principals and focuses on turning around poorly performing schools.

Don't Ask Don't Tell (DADT) -- Obama got rid of this military policy, which didn't require candidates to disclose their sexual orientation when applying for military service and also barred the military branches from asking the question. Bill Clinton wisely enacted this policy when he was President.

I thought it was a very good policy because it addressed issues of both national security and privacy, as well as morale, good order, and discipline. Most military leaders will tell you it was a good policy for these reasons, but Obama preferred to play politics with it rather than rely on his military experts.

If I had to guess (because I don't know for sure), I would say Strickland would be in favor of retaining DADT and Bennett, being the liberal that he is, would go along with Obama's action to eliminate it.

I have deleted many comments that refer to the appearance of Tony Strickland. I also almost always delete offensive comments brought to my attention by emailing me.

That's a bald-faced lie, Dennert, and you know it! You use selective deletion techniques depending on how the comments mesh with your own political views. How about some truth in blogging for a change?

Dennert should block fossil dimwit aka tea party loser tom for life given all the profanity he has written on this blog!

"Block Him" (who also posts under dozens of other fake names) keeps pleading his case over and over again for Brian to ban people from this blog who disagree with him politically. But, so far, Brian has paid no attention to this loser.

That's because Brian believes free speech trumps partisan politics every day of the week. I gotta hand it to him. He's pretty fair in how he moderates blog comments, especially when idiots like "Block Him" continue to be abusive and over-the-top while posting under tons of phony names. LMAO!!!!!

Quit your crying and whimpering punk, the only reason Dennert lets you blog on here is so everyone can get a good laugh from reading the crud you post!

Is the bald comment referencing me being bald? Are you arguing you have emailed me to delete a comment because of an attack on a candidate's appearance and I didn't do it? That didn't happen.

No, Brian, the bald comment had nothing to do with your cue ball. Getting a little paranoid here, are we?

I have posted many comments on here over the years complaining about people making over-the-top remarks, false accusations, and engaging in personal attacks. And you've responded to very few of them, deleting only a handful.

I have said many times to email me to have comments deleted.

Yeah, whatever, Brian. This is turning into a circular argument and getting quite boring.

Let's get back to talking about politics. I noticed you didn't comment on any of the points I raised about the policy positions of the various candidates on some of the key issues that you initially threw out there.

Maybe Brian really prefers to engage in the back-and-forth slap downs that he constantly criticizes others of doing than talking policy issues.

Notice how Fossil the punk uses multiple fake names, like all tea partiers he is too gutless to use his real name. He has used profanity on this blog many times and this loser should be banned for life!

What's that buzzing noise I hear? Is it that little wus, Block Him, pleading with Brian again to curtail freedom of speech? Ain't gonna happen here, punk.

You can go visit Castro or your other hero, Hugo Chavez, if you want to practice government supremacy, little girl. But, that's not the way we roll here in the U.S. At least it wasn't until Obama moved into the White House. Now it's all about growing the government to pay for all of our needs, hopes, and desires. This provides a disincentive to hard work and striving for success. If Obama's government is going to provide for all your needs, why do we even have a free market system?

That buzzing you hear idiot are the flies surrounding the rotting corpse of the now dead tea party! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! LMAO!

So, how's your little Occupy Nutstreet Movement going, you little girl in leotards ("Block Him" and various other fake names)? I saw where 400+ of your loser, thug, vandal, criminal, haters were arrested last week in Oakland for acts of aggression and assault on police officers, including pelting them with rocks and bottles.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and Police Chief Howard Jordan have stated that these hoodlums will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, which could mean prison time for many of them because most have lengthy criminal records already. Complete losers!!!

This idiot, "Block Him," loves to run down the Tea Party (which is extremely busy right now raising funds for candidates and ballot initiatives for the upcoming elections). "Dead" isn't an accurate depiction at all, loser. They're as alive and energized as ever to get into action and make a difference in this year's elections. Congressional seats will be a primary target.

What are the Occupy Nutstreet fools doing in this regard? Occupying parks and public places only makes them look like a bunch of wild-eyed, homeless, drug-addicted losers. Good luck with that!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only an idiot loser like tea party tom would use a name like fossil idiot power! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! The tea party is gone, the GOP Pres candidates who called themselves tea party were the first to go! LMFAO!!!!! Perry, Bachman, Cain, bunch of losers!!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!!! "Duh, I'm Perry, me can't speak or remember anything so me look stupid in debates!"

Allow me to connect the dots for you, loser, since you're obviously incapable of doing that yourself.

"Fossil Power" is a reference to Steve Bennett who looks like a complete fossil -- both physically and politically. By getting behind a fossil like Bennett for Gallegly's open Congressional seat, the Dums have virtually secured defeat for themselves like they usually do.

There will be a big fight between supporters of Pollock and Thayne-Cruz and Bennett (similar to the HBJ-Dantona melee a few years ago) and this will result in a weakened candidate in the fall, if he even makes it to the fall. My guess is he won't actually make it that far because the top two candidates after the primary election will be Linda Parks and Tony Strickland. And Strickland will go on to win.

Thanks, Dums, you've handed another victory over to us on a silver platter. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those policies are interesting but you are assuming the positions of many of the candidates on them. I haven't seen Tony Strickland or Linda Parks address DADT, DOMA, or RTTT.

I'll connect the dots for you loser, fossil = tea party tom = complete loser and punk! LMAO!!!!!

Ask them, Brian. I'm pretty sure I got their positions right on DADT, DOMA & RTTT.

I'll connect the dots for you, Block Him. The Occupy losers are all being rounded up as we speak in Oakland and thrown in jail where they belong. They will probably consider jail to be a step up from the parks they've been camping out in when they're not hanging out at the local crack houses.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fossil idiot I connected the dots for you and you are still too stupid to get it! LMAO! Also everyone in Ventura and Ojai make sure not to vote for Neal Andrews as he is another tea party loser like tea party tom aka fossil idiot! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Neal Andrews is exactly the person we need to replace the fossilized Steve Bennett on the Board of Supervisors. Neal has been the voice of reason for many years on the Ventura City Council. Lately, he has been a consistent proponent of pension reform for City employees. None of the other Council members would dare go there, of course, because they rely so heavily on union support for their reelection bids.

Christy Weir would be an absolute disaster. She is largely responsible for closing down an extremely popular City library (Wright Library) and a fire station on the east end of town (Fire Station 4). She, like Brian Brennan (who still may run for County Supervisor by the way) are ardent supporters of anything the public employee unions request. It's this quid pro quo arrangement with the unions and these elected officials that needs to stop. Neal is the only one bold enough to get behind real pension reform.

Vote for Andrews for Supervisor!!!

Neal Andrews will bankrupt the County if elected and be a puppet of Foy and the VCRCC. VOTE FOR WEIR!

Weir will be the one to bankrupt the County with her strong alliance to public employee unions. Her "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" history with employee unions while on the Ventura City Council is evidence enough of how she would perform as a County Supervisor.

Neal is a fiscal conservative and his record in this regard as a Ventura City Council member is beyond reproach. Unfortunately, he has been the lone voice pleading for pension reform on the City Council. His Council colleagues have turned a deaf ear to this idea because they know how much they rely on the unions to get them reelected.

Vote for fiscal sanity. Vote for Andrews!

If the past 10 years have proven anything, it's that you can't count on conservatives to be fiscally conservative. What they save by taking away from the poor and the hard working they hand over to the wealthy, spend on senseless wars or use to extend their line of credit. And when the CINOs aredone, the middle class still ends up having to pay more.

I don't think Neal Andrews, as County Supervisor, is a serious threat to start a war with another country. He also can't redirect money from the poor to the wealthy in his role as County Supervisor.

So, I'm not real sure what you're talking about here. But, nice try spinning it into something it can't possibly be.

LMAO!!!!!!

Once again fossil idiot puts his ignorance on display and gives us all something and someone to laugh at! Andrews is a puppet, VOTE FOR WEIR!

Actually, Weir is the puppet (puppet of the unions and the enviro-nuts).

Andrews is the most independent member of the Ventura City Council (with the possible exception of Jim Monahan, who sometimes asserts his independence if he happens to be fully awake at that night's meeting).

Andrews is often the only "no" vote on many policy issues that come before the Council because he doesn't walk lock-step like the others in supporting whatever Rick Cole proposes. He actually puts some careful thought and consideration behind his votes, instead of just knee-jerking it to Cole, particularly on fiscal/financial matters.

VOTE FOR INDEPENDENCE, FISCAL CONSERVATISM, AND WELL THOUGHT-OUT POLICY POSITIONS -- VOTE FOR ANDREWS!

VOTE FOR INDEPENDENCE, REAL FISCAL CONSERVATISM, AND WELL THOUGHT-OUT POLICY POSITIONS -- VOTE FOR WEIR!

Why can't Andrew do like No Tax Foy's done? He and WMI simply passed along WMI's settlement with SV on to the taxpayers by allowing the landfill operator to raise fees more than 10%. If that increase holds up throughout the county, WMi would be making about three times their settlement costs...a nice re-direct of money from Ventura families and businesses to the wealthy.

This is why I quit the GOP and became a democrat, because guys like Foy in the GOP kept ripping me off like with this MMi deal!

Boy, it looks like the brainless "Vote for Weir" can't resist the temptation to cut and paste my brilliant slogans and apply them to his loser candidate, Christy Weir.

Weir is responsible for closing down an extremely popular City library, Wright Library, and closing down a fire station on the east end of town, which was critical to maintaining life-saving response times in that part of the City.

All Weir cares about are her union buddies and her enviro-Nazi supporters who pump money into her campaigns.

She is also a big fan of government over-regulation. Witness the form-based code mania that Weir and her City Council colleagues, Carl Morehouse, Bill Fulton, and Brian Brennan, have dumped on us like a wheelbarrow full of manure. These highly-restrictive development codes is one of the reasons Ventura is viewed as the most business-unfriendly city in Ventura County. Send Weir and her code-obsessed City staffers packing.

Elect Neal Andrews to the Board of Supervisors!!!

This is why I quit the GOP and became a democrat, you can see how this republican idiot is making fun of my last name. It was this juvenile and childish behavior that drove me away. The GOP is hypocritical and racist that it is no wonder they now have only a registration of 30.4% in Ca.

Yeah, well don't let the door hit you in the behind as you walk out, Gropinblogger. We certainly don't need little crybabies like you in the Party.

Politics is a blood sport! Deal with it!!!!

Again it is because of loser sheep like yourself that the GOP has turned into one big pile of stinking sh*t! Enjoy your life on the outside looking in little boy. I would make fun of your last name if you had the guts to post it but like all republicans you have no guts or manhood!

I'll be laughing all the way to the victory parties in November, little girl. The Dimocrats have shot themselves in the foot again with the Steve Bennett, he's in/he's out, fiasco. These idiots couldn't manage themselves out of a wet paper bag.

All they've succeeded in doing is cinching this race for Strickland. What a bunch of incompetent boobs!

The only thing they're successful at is making dumb-ass comments that get them in trouble with their own Party faithful. Like that stooge, David Atkins, calling speakers at a public hearing in Simi Valley on redistricting "members of the Ku Klux Klan." What a fool!!!

I'm constantly amused at watching these idiots botch things again and again. We at the VCRCC are laughing our asses off!!!

If you want to really laugh film your VCRCC meetings, watching yourselves crawl around kissing Phony Tony's butt has to be hysterical! He will be out on the street, but I'm sure he will have a job waiting as the Village Idiot, of course he will have to run against you to get that job!
