Scott Wilk, Patricia McKeon, and an anonymous website

I haven't followed this story enough to make sense of it. State Assembly Candidate Patricia McKeon was attacked by an anonymous website that she apparently complained was set up by her rival Scott Wilk. I saw the website a few times. Sometimes it was interesting but I didn't want to post from it because it included personal attacks and comments on physical appearances.

Now, Scott Wilk's team is arguing they caught Patricia McKeon in a blatant lie and they have a letter from the District Attorney and the audio to support their claim.

The 38th Assembly District primary election is going to get nastier as the election gets closer.

It is great the Miami Heat joined together as a team to show solidarity with those seeking justice for Trayvon Martin. Especially after the dumb comments by Geraldo Rivera.

It is going to take public pressure to ensure justice is done and this tragedy is fully investigated.

David Cruz Thayne is hiring staff members CA26

David Cruz Thayne

David Cruz Thayne is expanding his staff. This Facebook update was from his campaign manager. The CA26 district is going to be very competitive. David Cruz Thayne is one of the many candidates running.

Another added bonus to more competitive districts in Ventura County is more opportunities for jobs working on campaigns. This is a great opportunity for people that want to add to their political experiences.

Rick Santorum, Rush Limbaugh, and Tony Strickland?

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

Ventura County Democrats are trying to attack polarizing Republicans like Rick Santorum and Rush Limbaugh to Tony Strickland. Click on this link to read more.

Here is the message from the Ventura County Democratic Party.

As you've probably heard, Rush Limbaugh has gotten into a lot of trouble over his misogynistic and sexist remarks about women who use contraception. But it's not just Limbaugh. Republican leaders like Rick Santorum and Ron Paul have painted described basic contraception as immoral, too.

Well, it's time to get local Republicans like Tony Strickland on the record about birth control. [link]Ask them TODAY if they agree with Republican leaders Rick Santorum and Rush Limbaugh that birth control is immoral.[/link]

The citizens of Ventura County have a right to know if the Republicans who want to represent them in Washington and Sacramento share their Republican leaders' antiquated views. Please take a few minutes to ask Tony Strickland whether he would vote with Limbaugh and Santorum on birth control.

Please fill out the form below to send an email to Republicans asking them if they agree with Rush Limbaugh and Rick Santorum that birth control is immoral. Let them know that you support the ability of women being to control their own bodies, and the ability of families to plan their futures responsibly. And thank you again for helping to hold your local Republicans accountable to real moral values!

The Democratic candidates are spending time concentrating on each other as Linda Parks is campaigning on bipartisanship. That leaves Tony Strickland without much opposition that is organized against him.

I would ask Tony Strickland if he thinks Rush Limbaugh is a good conservative leader.

A local Republican activist posted this status update on Facebook. It got me thinking I should post the amount of Facebook supporters for a variety of campaigns.

Here are the numbers for State Senate District

Hannah-Beth Jackson:
247

Jason Hodge:
108

I support Jason Hodge.

What's the best use of Facebook you have seen in a Ventura County campaign?

State Assembly Candidate Paul Strickland Interview #AD38

Paul Strickland is running in a crowded primary to replace termed out legislator Cameron Smyth (R). The other candidates include Scott Wilk (R), Patricia McKeon(R), and Edward Headington (D).

Paul Strickland is a former staff Member for Cameron Smyth and is a board member of his local school district.

He has agreed for me to interview him using the comments section of my blog.

Endorsements matter

If you are running for a legislative office you need to prove you can work with others to pass legislation.

To prove that you can build coalitions endorsements from local elected officials matter.

That includes local school boards, park boards, and city councils.

Endorsements matter.

Rep. McKeon and Canada

Rep. Buck McKeon wants to reduce our dependence on foreign oil by importing oil from Canada.

I am not sure why he thinks importing oil from a foreign nation will reduce our dependence on oil from foreign nations. Here is his Facebook post:

We must increase our energy supply but also reduce our energy demand. Our current energy consumption is not sustainable.

Surprise Straw Poll Results

( Video of Scott Wilk speaking to Ventura County Republicans. Ventura County Republicans support Scott Wilk.)

The Santa Clarita Republican Assembly, a conservative grassroots group, held a straw poll for the new 38th Assembly District.

Republican Scott Wilk easily won the poll with the most votes. But what surprised me is that Democrat Edward Headington won 2nd place!

Edward Headington = 57 votes
Patricia McKeon = 5 votes
Paul Strickland = 21 votes
Scott Wilk = 266 votes

Seems Patricia Scott is highly unpopular with grassroots activists. I wonder if the money Buck McKeon raises for her will overcome the antipathy from her own party.

Congratulations Edward McKeon and Scott Wilk.

What should a party activist be able to say on Facebook?

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

Adam Gregory, a Santa Clarita based Republican Party activist sent me a video of a meeting where the Chair of the Los Angeles County Republican Party tried to censure him for his Facebook posts. I'm friends with him on Facebook and I don't know what post was so upsetting.

He is a conservative Republican and he sometimes is critical of his own party. He supports Scott Wilk against Patricia McKeon in the State Assembly primary. It isn't surprising he posts critical statements of her and supportive statements for Scott Wilk. He has posted critical statements of Rep. Buck McKeon too. Add him on Facebook and you will see it isn't that exciting or controversial.

Is the Chair of the Republican Party saying a party activist cannot take sides in a party primary?

Read Adam Gregory's explanation here:

Adam, you might believe all sorts of stuff I disagree with but I'll defend your right to express yourself.

Did Dr. Lee Rogers pay $300 to debate Rep. Buck McKeon?

Often incumbents find ways to ignore requests for debates.

But this time it will be hard for Rep. McKeon to not take questions from his opponent.

Dr. Lee Rogers bid on a lunch with Rep. Buck McKeon as a part of a charity fundraiser to support education.

Well played Dr. Lee Rogers. Well played.

What do you think Dr. Lee Rogers should bring up at lunch?

Top two primary thoughts

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

Now that Linda Parks is running as a no preference candidate more Democrats are worrying that that a divided field could cause the November election to be a choice between Tony Strickland and Linda Parks.

I am wondering if all of the candidates will end up running.

Democratic activists across the nation are paying attention to CA26 because it could help Democrats take control over the House of Representatives.

What party will she caucus with? If she won't join a caucus for either party she won't get committee assignments. Who will she vote for to be the next Speaker?

Linda Parks has limited her campaign so far mostly to calls for bipartisanship and moderation.

What are her positions on SOPA, NDAA, NCLB, DADT, and Afghanistan? What about Citizens United? The payroll tax cut? Healthcare Reform?

She hasn't been talking about these issues. She isn't appearing at the forums Democrats are organizing. Are there going to be forums for all of the candidates before June?

Democrats worried about Linda Parks and Tony Strickland making the top two seem to want to convince someone to drop out. But who would be open to dropping out?

This post on DailyKos.com seems to be representative of the views of many establishment liberals who are supporting Julia Brownley.

Should one or more of the candidates drop out for the good of their party? If so, which candidate?
