Neil deGrasse Tyson speaks of the value of space exploration

I am glad that a funny meme brought this scientist to my attention.

I wasn't a big supporter of NASA funding before listening to Neil deGrasse Tyson speaking to the importance of it. Now I understand better space exploration helps to create the American identity, pushes us to dream, and inspires scientific inquiry. If we want young people to study science we need to bring logic to it including the the promise of jobs and opportunities. But we should spark a romantic interest and a love for exploring in young people too. Space exploration captures are imagination does just that for people of all ages.

I am willing to pay more in taxes for space exploration. I think it is worth it. Do you?

Please share this video with young people.

My writing isn't as moving as Neil deGrasse Tyson. Watch the video, it is worth it.

What type of Republican is State Senate candidate Todd Zink?

( Rep. Buck McKeon, Conservative talk show host Larry Elder, State Senate candidate Todd Zink, and Rep. Allen West. Posted on Todd Zink's campaign Facebook page.)

I was surprised to see this picture of Todd Zink with controversial right wing Representative Allen West.

Click here to read some of the extreme statements by Rep. Allen West.

I usually expect that a Republican in a district like this would be trying to appeal to more moderate voters.

If Todd Zink's campaign emails me a single position that they claim shows that he is a moderate Republican I will post it on the front page.

Simi Valley School Board candidate Josie Hirsch getting an early start

School Board candidate Josie Hirsch recently posted this in a Facebook group titled Simi Valley letters to the Editor.

Screen shot 2012-06-22 at 8.50.32 PM.png

Simi Valley School Board candidate Josie Hirsch (R) is getting an early start on campaigning. With her experiences from her last campaign and her eager campaigning I think she has a much better chance this time.

The big question is who will all of the candidates be? I am hoping another challenger enters the campaign. I have someone in mind that has considered it and would be a great school board member.

I will post more on the other candidates , including the incumbents, when they announce if they are running again.

Click here for my interview with Josie Hirsch from her last campaign.

Josie Hirsch,

Do you support the Governor's proposals for an initiative to help school funding? I'll post your reply on the front page.

State Assembly Candidate Edward Headington Endorsed by Richard Riordan

(Richard Riordan and Edward Headington)

State Assembly candidate Edward Headington (D) is spreading the news that he has been endorsed by former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan. His claim is that this shows he has significant bipartisan support and will be able to earn votes from decline to state and Republican voters.

He is running against Scott Wilk (R) in the 38th State Assembly District. The seat is currenty held by Cameron Smyth (R). Many pundits consider it a Republican seat. But if Edward Headington continues to earn bipartisan support he might be able to attract attention to this race.

What do you think? You don't need to register or to use your real name to comment. Please keep it classy.

Scott Wilk,

Who is your most important supporter that is a registered Democrat? I will post your response on the front page. Working with people in both parties will be important to make progress in California.

Glenn Beck not a fan of Glee

I have only seen a couple of episodes so I need some help. Why is Glenn Beck so against the show Glee?

This is the headline from Talking Points Memo:

Glenn Beck Vows To Single-Handedly Destroy 'Glee'

Funny headline: Nevada Republicans Support Brothels Over Marriage Equality

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

A recent poll shows that members of both parties support legalized prostitution in Nevada. But Republicans in Nevada don't support marriage equality. I am curious if any of my readers have an argument in favor of prostitution but against marriage equality.

http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2012/06/15/500697/poll-nevada-republicans-favor-brothels-over-marriage-equality-3-1/

The Federal Marriage Amendment supported by many Republicans that would overturn Marriage Equality in many states targets people for discrimination.

I support marriage equality.

Ventura County Board of Education Member Mark Lisagor is running for re-election

If you don't know much about the Ventura County Office of Eduction I understand. It isn't often in the news and the board members aren't the most important local elected officials involved in the operations of our schools. Because of this the campaigns for seats on this board often have low visibility.

When I first started blogging the board was debating issues not central to their mission including evolution. They were involved in a scandal involving hiring lobbyists to lobby local elected officials for earmarks. A few of the Members were also on the Ventura County Republican Central Committee. Tony Strickland was lobbying Board Members that were also Ventura County Republican Central Committee Members for a for profit group that he as involved in to run a Charter School.

Mark Lisagor ran to stop these shenanigans. We shouldn't have to pay lobbyists to lobby our own elected officials for earmarks. The VCOE shouldn't be wasting time on issues like evolution. Political activists without a strong education background aren't the best candidates.

Mark Lisagor is not a political activist. He is an accomplished dentist. Since he had been on the VCOE many issues have been improved. I am glad he is running for re-election. I will ask to interview him this summer.

Check out his website for more information.

Mayor Bob Huber continues to hold town hall meetings

I haven't agreed with many of the priorities Mayor Bob Huber has chosen but I am glad he continues to hold town hall meetings. Does your Mayor hold town hall meetings?

bob_huber_townhall.png

Bob Huber has announced he intends to run for re-election. Do you think he will face serious competition? The last campaign between Steve Sojka and Bob Huber was among the competitive election for Mayor in Simi Valley that I remember. It would be great to watch Bob Huber make the case of why he has deserves re-election and why his priorities have helped Simi Valley.

Who do you want to run against him? I have heard that Glen Becerra has been considering running.

Steve Sojka and Barbra Williamson are also up for election if they run again.

Post your pictures of the final day

You can post your pictures of the final day of campaigning on the Facebook page for this blog.

This picture was taken by the Ventura County Star of a Tony Strickland campaign rally. His campaigns have always been energetic including great efforts by the candidate himself. In his State Senate campaign I remember seeing him and his staff waving signs by my freeway exit on the way to work. His staff was out there many times. I don't think Hannah-Beth Jackson ever waved signs on a street corner in Simi Valley.

Most signs are made before campaign events. I don't blame the person holding the sign for this spelling error. But I am surprised that nobody else noticed it in time.

Who are you proud to vote for in this primary election?
