Omkar, why do you want to be on the Park Board?

Have you been to a Park Board meeting? What did you learn?

What is the best project the Park Board is working on?

Good Evening Brian,

I am running for the opportunity to serve on the board of the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District because the Park District is in need of fresh perspective. The incumbents on the board have all served terms ranging from about ten years to over twenty.

I want to implement programs and policies that will ensure that RSRPD facilities remain relevant in a changing world.

One example is instituting a Wi-Fi network in our parks. This will encourage more people to come outdoors to our public parks and enjoy the public space.

I regularly read the agendas and reports of Board Meetings.

I recently had the opportunity to go to Mayfair Park here in Simi. I think the t-rex playground fixture is great and incorporates a bit of imagination that the district is lacking.

What is your favorite park in Simi Valley?

How well funded is our park district?

Additionally, the current board has not done enough to publicize park facilities and programs.

I would keep the current RSRPD catalog and additionally offer an "App" for mobile devices so that one could simply peruse various programs by category, start date, and interests to encourage further participation in programs.

Looking at the catalogs as we speak, there are currently programs that are offered that don't start until November or December. The "App" would allow you to set a reminder a couple of weeks before a class is set to start and would encourage people to sign up!

This would not only increase participation, but it would save printing hundreds of 57 page catalogs; saving valuable Park District resources as well as being green.

How has your education or occupation prepared you for this position?

How would that save paper? Would some people not get the catalog in the mail?

Have you ever been to a park board meeting? Are they available online?

I would have to say my favorite park is the Rancho Tapo Community Park aka "Lemon Park". The amenities like being able to have a bbq, play basketball, and the kids water area make it a real gem. The Veterans Plaza is also stunning.

What do you think of the project at the golf course on Sinaloa?

Our park district receives it's funding from a variety of sources. The main sources being property taxes and fees from using various programs and facilities. As you know the assessed value of homes has been on the decline and will continue into the foreseeable future. This means that revenue generated from property taxes will also decrease.

Having said that, it is imperative that the RSRPD operate efficiently and eliminate waste where possible in order to maintain and improve our facilities.

How safe are the local parks?

Do you have a ballot statement? Can you post it here?

I would give people the option of opting to receive the catalog digitally as an "App" instead of in the mail.

The park district sponsors ultimate frisbee on Friday nights at S Turn park. Want to come play tomorrow night? I'll be there.

What park district programs do you participate in? Any sports programs or activities for children?

I think that my education and occupation coupled with my knowledge of Simi Valley and its citizens have prepared me for this position.

I'm a local guy.

I was born, raised, and have lived in Simi my entire life with the exception of moving to college to attend the University of California, Berkeley. I know Simi and I know the people that live here. I've seen Simi change dramatically over the years.

Growing up I participated in plenty RSRPD programs such as swimming, drawing/paint classes, and going to the driving range.

Some of the most important provide invaluable services such as the "Before/After School Clubs". Both of my parents worked growing up and without the school clubs which are onsite and provided at a very reasonable cost- it would have been very difficult.

I firmly believe in improving those types of programs while keeping costs manageable as they provide a valuable service for the community.

I've never played ultimate frisbee before but I just watched a Youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAyEti-_lR8

It looks fun though! If I come you gotta give me some pointers.

I would have loved to have had the luxury to pay the fee for a ballot statement which costs hundreds of dollars so that voters could learn more about me! I'll post a ballot statement here in the coming days.

How are you going to get your message out?

As you already know, I am on Twitter! (twitter.com/RanadeRSRPD).

I've already been talking to voters in parks and around town about my vision and goals for the RSRPD. I'll also use traditional campaign signs directing voters to my Twitter account so they can ask me questions and read about my ideas.

I will be speaking at the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum on October 2nd. I encourage people to come out to meet the people who are competing for the privilege to serve their community. I want remain as accessible as possible.

The incumbents ran unopposed in 2008 and were waved into office for another four year term. I want to earn the votes of the people I wish to serve.

Will you support creating a frisbee golf course? Have you played frisbee golf before?

Hmmm I'm not familiar with frisbee golf, however I'm open to looking into the feasibility of doing so!

I would talk to the Conejo Park District and ask them how their frisbee golf course is doing and then see if there is a need for an additional course within the RSRPD.
