Legislative Score Cards

The Simi Valley Acorn published a slanted legislative score card ad from the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce. I am not sure how I would vote on any of the bills but their description alone makes it seems extreme that anyone would support them.

Does it seem suspect that State Senator Fran Pavley ignored the environmental impact of polystyrene containers? She wrote AB 32! would State Assembly Member Jeff Gorell vote to inflate litigation costs? Another bill is titled illegal tax increase.

Why not give us the real titles or descriptions?

I would like to see more scorecards like this printed by newspapers. But not from special interest groups.

This should have been labeled a paid political ad.

Electoral College tomorrow

I am staying with an old college friend that works for the Speaker. He joined the students with us for dinner tonight.

We are about a mile from the Capitol. Tomorrow morning we are meeting with a staff member from Scott Wilk's office before going on a tour with a staff member from State Senator Fran Pavley's office.

The Ventura County Star had an article today that included my student Chris Tumbeiro.

I am a teacher at Royal High School in Simi Valley. A student of mine, Chris Tumbeiro, has been chosen by Dr. Lee Rogers to be an Elector.

The story was in the Ventura County Star, The Acorn, and newspapers across the nation.

Next Sunday students and their families will be going to Sacramento. That Monday Chris will be voting in the Electoral College.

I am looking for a legislative staff member to meet with our students over dinner Sunday night and a different staff member to eat breakfast with us Monday morning. If you are interested please contact me.

Chris Tumbeiro will be writing about and sharing his experiences.

Simi Valley City Council Member Barbra Williamson was defeated in her campaign for re-election to the city council. She was first elected in 1992. This Ventura County Star news story reviews her time on the city council.

Good luck in your future adventures Barbra Williamson.

Her campaign slogan was "Putting residents first".

Trivia: What politician that ran in 1992 used a similar campaign slogan?
