Thank you Dr. lee Rogers for covering the expenses for Royal High School student Chris Tumbeiro to go to the inauguration.

Because Chris Tumbeiro was an elector he had good tickets for the two of them. Dr. Lee Rogers sent me this picture. Some of my other students used Twitter to cover the inauguration for the Ventura County Star. Read their Tweets on the page the Ventura County Star set up to cover the inauguration.

Skid Row Update #1

A former student is helping to raise money for a cause he is involved in. I offered him a few dollars to write blog posts about his cause. Find their group on Facebook to connect with him.

Here is his first update:

Hello, my name is Eric Henriquez, and my journey with helping out the homeless in Down Town Los Angles came by surprise. A student and future good friend Kris Dowling was the one who opened my eyes to extreme poverty. My sophomore year in High School Kris, screened his Santa Susanna senior project at my youth group. Kris's project was a fifteen minute documentary on Skid Row and the situation in the area. I was involved in many city and school community service clubs yet Skid Row seemed like an interesting cause to take on. I was moved by his documentary and i want to make a big impact on something that wasn't in africa or india.

Extreme poverty was only thirty minutes away. Skid Row can best be described as its own third world country. The dirty streets, drug/domestic violence problems on every block, and let us not forget the dense streets filled with homeless people. Kris wanted to bring awareness to Skid Row. Many are unaware of the area. He asked if anyone wanted to help him bring change to this needy cause. I meet with him and together, we started our group known as Skid Row Update.

Since then we have been working on helping out the area. It was something I never saw myself doing. Managing my local High-school clubs, and sports was enough for me. Yet something about this cause made me feel like I could inspire and truly impact someone's life on a whole different scale. To help a little homeless girl turn her life around and see a brighter future all because she had someone that really cared about her by her side made me wonder who else I can inspire. As cliche as this statement may be, it all starts with the children. I am not doing this for my own self , but to help a cause, that I feel is worth the effort.

Electoral College Pictures

The Electoral College meeting in Sacramento was amazing. I took many pictures that I have been sharing. As they were preparing to vote I had this picture taken of me.

After the vote we were allowed on the State Assembly floor. I was more nervous taking this picture. I was concerned security would not appreciate the humor. When I walked off the stage civil rights icon Dolores Huerta said "that was funny". That is when I knew it was a good decision.

I also posted these pictures on Reddit. Please help me out with an upvote.

Thank you Dr. Lee Rogers for making all of this possible.

Simi Valley / Moorpark Democratic Club holding gun safety discussion

The Simi Valley / Moorpark Democratic Club will be holding a gun safety discussion. I am impressed with the panel they have put together. Simi Valley School Board candidate Arleigh Kidd, Simi Valley City Council Member Mike Judge, and members of the police department will be there.

I often disagree with Mike Judge. He is too quick to repost conspiracy theories on Facebook. That said I am very impressed he is willing to speak at this meeting. He is a supporter of the local Tea Party and supports the NRA. Showing up to discuss gun safety shows he is willing to represent all of us in Simi Valley.

The local school district has been trying to address concerns of families. I am glad School Board Member Arleigh Kidd will be there. I supported him when he ran for school board. I look forward to hearing what he has to share. Arleigh Kidd is a former teacher.

Both Arleigh Kidd and Mike Judge served in our military. I am thankful for their service.

We need to find common ground to reduce violence.
