Bruce Thomas Is Running Against Peter Foy

It looks like Peter Foy has drawn a tough challenger. Bruce Thomas is a Moorpark School Board Member and dedicated community volunteer. I think Peter Foy has done an okay job as Supervisor but he could be more dedicated to this job instead of traveling the state for partisan events to protest the president. I will ask Bruce Thomas for an interview in the next few weeks. Until then here is his press release:

BRUCE THOMAS CHALLENGES PETER FOY

US Marine Officer, School Board Member, Financial Adviser To Run
March 12, 2010
Bruce Thomas, the Moorpark School Board Member, family financial adviser, and former U.S. Marine Officer, filed papers to today to challenge incumbent County Supervisor, Peter Foy. Thomas will run in County Supervisor District #4, which includes Moorpark, Simi Valley and Somis.

Thomas said, "I believe East County voters deserve a Supervisor who is committed to working full time to protect our jobs and small businesses, neighborhoods, and vital environmental and agricultural resources".

"As a local elected official, I see the negative impact of partisan gridlock and personal political ambitions on our government's ability to simply do what's right for our communities. I aim to change that by providing hard working, focused leadership you can trust", he continued.

Bruce Thomas has a lifetime of dedicated military, financial and community service. He served 20 years in the U.S. Marines and was the Moorpark American Legion Post Commander for 8 years. Bruce is an elected member of the Moorpark School Board and serves on numerous local community service boards and committees.

Bruce is married to Heidi, a public school teacher. They have three children Justin, a LA police officer; Amy, a physical therapist and Tara, an assistant public school principal.

Term Limits for county supervisors to be on the November ballot

Farmer_Foy.jpg

I have heard that Peter Foy is serious about not running for reelection to the board of supervisors. In his first election he claimed to be a farmer/business person. It is fun to tease him for that ballot designation but it turned out to be much smarter than the choices candidates for the Democratic nomination in the 24th congressional district made.

Recently, Peter Foy has joined up with a lower tax and smaller government group which doesn't believe government should take steps to fight global warming because it would result in higher taxes or more regulations. It seems the issues he is most interested in are dealt with at higher levels of government. But don't let that make you think he isn't interested in altering local government.

County Supervisor Peter Foy has delivered on a campaign issue to put term limits on the agenda for county supervisors.

According to this Star article it will limit supervisors to three consecutive terms. Someone could then take a term off and then run again.

None of the current supervisors could be forced from office before 2020.

How do you plan to vote on this initiative?

Being that the only competitive elections seem to be when there is an open seat I would think this would create more competitive elections locally. 12 years is a long time to be on a board especially when you consider state legislators get either six years ( state assembly) or 8 years ( state senate). I am at this point inclined to vote in favor of it.

Of course, it is true that long time incumbent supervisor Judy Mikels was defeated but that seems to be the perfect storm of three candidates with access to money and endorsements coming together from across the ideological spectrum to box her into a hard to defend position. Combine that with her unpopular support for local developments and it becomes something I don't expect to see often.

If you support term limits for county supervisor do you also support them for other offices like school boards and city councils?

Bored ( Yes, it was on purpose. Please don't email me about it) of Supervisors or a real campaign?

( Denis O'Leary's latest campaign ad)

What is going on in the campaigns for seats on the Board of Supervisors?

Which of the following candidates have you seen campaigning in any format?

What have you seen or heard from John Flynn, Denis O'Leary, or John Zaragoza in the 5th district campaign?

What about the campaign between Kathy Long and Socorro Lopez Hanson in district 3?

So far I think the incumbents are safe as far as I have heard. Do you have any reason to think otherwise?

Another day another endorsement

The Tony Strickland for State Senate campaign has announced the support of many Simi Valley City officials and other Simi Valley citizens. You can click on continue reading to read the whole list. Rep. Elton Gallegly is one of the most prominent, but so far it looks like a who's who of the Simi Valley Republican Party. Most of them could be relied upon to endorse the GOP candidate in most campaigns.

The list includes the entire city council except for Michelle Foster. Anyone know why Michelle didn't join with the rest of the council? The other prominent names not mentioned are Republican school board members Eric Lundstrom and Janice Difatta,

On a personal note, thank you to Tony Strickland and his staff . Tony has put together a quick responding and young staff. Thanks for your help! I will write about it more later.

I will have a Hannah Beth Jackson campaign update next week. But in the meantime enjoy their new campaign widget:

Barbra Williamson's group gets fined.

How is the other investigation into the membership communications of the Ventura County Republican Central Committee coming along? Did the DA formally pass on it? Where in the review process is it? Have all complaints been dropped?

Either way, keep the documents coming into me.

Update GOP Target: Steve Bennett

Stevenew4-1.jpg

I reported awhile back that Steve Bennett is being targeted in the 2008 election for county supervisor. Currently the Ventura County Republican Central Committee is looking for a candidate to run against the popular Democrat in a bid to take control of the board.

Today The Star reported that robocalls are being launched against Steve Bennett although The VCRCC and their Chairman Mike Osbourn denied involvement. Osbourn is correct when he says it could be the work of a single person.

If it isn't a partisan Republican who else could it be?

Take down those old signs!

I saw this sign outside of Wienerschnizel on Los Angeles tonight Feb. 24th.

As a test to see if Peter Foy and his team read this blog let's count down the time it takes to disappear. Of course it has been close to four months at so far.

How is it that the city has a new punitive sign law but yet this sign has been up for this long? I wish the city would enforce current laws before making new regulations.

Anyways, if you see old signs from ANY candidate e-mail them in and I will post them.

Peter Foy takes office...

( This photoshop was created by a reader Brian Mack to focus on Peter Foy's ballot designation as a farmer. I wish Peter Foy luck as he tries to pass his reforms. We will be watching him and helping when we see needed changes get sidetracked. )

Peter Foy has taken office. Here is one article from The Ventura County Star about it.

The article fleshes out his term limits platform to 3 consecutive terms. After that a supervisor must return to private life, although they could run again after a term out of office.

It doesn't mention his package of ethics reforms. We should all help him by suggesting new ideas for ethical reform. What reforms would you like to see?

I will forward his team the suggestions after a few weeks so that everyone has time to think of ideas our community needs.
