I went to the Simi Valley School Board meeting tonight to support fixing the calendar. Also on the agenda was the budget. The meeting got heated at moments and it was a standing room only crowd.
The big surprise was Dan White calling for the immediate removal of the superintendent. I am not sure if he has the support of any other school board members. Debbie Sandland and Rob Collins spoke out strongly against it. The other two did not address the issue directly enough to know their thoughts.

I am home from the meeting. The Paul Harvey Super Bowl ad makes sense for the people that will be at the meeting late tonight.

Updated election results. No major changes.

In Simi Valley Dan White, Debbie Sandland, and Rob Collins continue to lead in the race for the three seats on the school board.
Josie Hirsch ran a very competitive campaign. She had the support of many Republican elected officials including Buck McKeon, Scott Wilk, Tony Strickland, Barbra Williamson, Glen Becerra, and Mike Judge. The Ventura County Republican Central Committee also supported her.
It would be for the best if she continues to find ways to contribute to the community. She is working on bringing a Renaissance Fair to this area. I am planning on going. It should be a great event.
The three winning candidates did not get support from a political party. Dan White is a Republican. Debbie Sandland and Rob Collins declined the support of the Democratic Party. They could have been included on slate mailers, for free, sent to Democratic households. All three were endorsed by the teachers union. I was on the interview panel that talked with Dan White. I am really excited he will be on the school board. He has shared with me many of his plans for technology. His agenda for fixing how we use technology in Simi Valley schools is shared by teachers.

Which three candidates are you supporting for Simi Valley School Board?
I am supporting Dan White. He understands technology issues and he has proven his commitment by his involvement with the Simi Valley Education Foundation. Who has earned your support?

I am posting pictures from the Simi Valley Fair and Music Festival. Post pictures at facebook.com/briandennerthere that you want me to post.

The Simi Valley Fair and Music Festival is this weekend. The fair this year is bigger than in the past. This is a great opportunity for candidates to meet people. The parade was this morning and had many politicians in it.
You can post pictures on the Facebook page for my blog. The best pictures I will post on this page. The debates there are usually better because it is not anonymous.
The Simi Valley teachers union was there to support their endorsed candidates. They also support Proposition 30 and are against Proposition 32. What do you think of the propositions?
This picture was posted by Simi Valley School Board candidate Josie Hirsch on her Facebook page.
This picture was posted by a Keith Mashburn supporter on their own page.
Please send in pictures I should post.
This Thursday three candidates for Simi Valley Unified School District will be having an event at Simi Sam's from 7-8 PM. Dan White, Rob Collins, and Debbie Sandland have all been endorsed by the teachers union.
Simi Valley School Board Member Arleigh Kidd is helping to organize the event. I plan on going. What questions do you think I should ask the school board candidates?

The unions representing teachers and other school workers have endorsed three candidates for the Simi Valley School Board. They have endorsed Debbie Sandland, Rob Collins, and Dan White. Endorsing ncumbents Debbie Sandland and Rob Collins were not a surprise. I think many will be surprised that Dan White earned an endorsement from these unions.
I find Dan White to be thoughtful, passionate, and dedicated. His record of service to the Education Foundation shows public education is a long term commitment for him. I appreciate that his website lists endorsements from important leaders in education. Listing partisan activists and Republican Party candidates does not impress me.
I have spoken to Dan White a few times and I think he would make great contributions to the school district based on his experiences and passion for technology. I was skeptical of him when I first heard he was running. So far I have been pleased with many of his ideas.
I was on the interview panel and I was impressed with many of the candidates. Josie Hirsch and Josh Galanti were scheduled to be interviewed for an endorsement but did not make it. Leroy Leyba and Carla Kurachi have much they can contribute to public education. I appreciated many of their responses to questions.
I have interviewed Josh Galanti and Josie Hirsch before. I will be requesting to interview all of the candidates.
I do not agree with many of the issues that teachers unions often support. I support good charter schools and better reviews of teachers. I chose to volunteer for this panel because this election for school board is critical. Changes and reforms need to continue in our schools. We need good leaders to help.
As a teacher I ask you to find out more about Dan White and the other candidates. I want you to determine if they deserve your vote.
What value do you see in these endorsements? What changes do you want from your local schools?
The three incumbents up for election on the Simi Valley School Board have yet to declare their intentions. I am wondering why they are hesitating to declare again?
So far four challengers have picked up paperwork to run for the three seats.
If you are running for office in Ventura County and would like to be interviewed send me a message.
