Susan Jordan and Das Williams Are Set To Debate

Democratic State Assembly candidates Susan Jordan and Das Williams are set to debate on January 13th.

Click her for the details and the backgrounds of each candidate.

When will Republican candidates Mike Stoker and Daniel Goldberg debate?

Ventura County Republican blogger Eric Ingemunson isn't pleased with Daniel Goldberg's candidacy and even implied Goldberg has hidden some past blog posts that could get him in trouble with Republican Tea Party voters. Don't worry, I have copies of his posts. Let me know if you are looking for something. Eric, are you saying he poses such a challenge that Mike Stoker would need to spend money to defeat him?

I will post fanboxes for any candidate that sends me the html. The Das Williams campaign sent me in their fanbox information and you will see it on every post I do on this race from now on.

Susan Jordan Picks Up Law Enforcement Endorsements

susan labor day2.jpg

Susan Jordan, who is running for the Democratic Party nomination in the 35th State Assembly District, recently announced some law enforcement endorsements. For a Democrat running largely on her environmental protection background diversifying her base of support is critical. This announcement shows she is not a single issue candidate. I consider myself an environmentalist but there are many critical issues our state is going to need to deal with in the coming years.

I would like to see endorsements from people that want to reform education and from business groups next. I have invited Susan Jordan to come on here for an interview when she gets a chance. I have already interviewed Republican Mike Stoker and Democrat Das Williams.

The winner of the Democratic Party nomination is expected to be the prohibitive favorite in the general election.

State Assembly Member Pedro Nava Endorses Tim Allison For Congress ( CA-24 Currently Gallgly)

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

Tim Allison, who is running for the Democratic nomination in CA 24 ( Currently Rep. Elton Gallegly), has picked up a great endorsement from State Assembly Member Pedro Nava. Adding this to his earlier endorsements he has a growing list of labor leaders, elected officials, and grassroots activists. I haven't endorsed a candidate and I don't plan to until I know more about each of them.

Click on continue reading for the press release.

Many blogs have a policy against posting press releases. I like to post them so you can read directly what the campaigns are sending out. I also like to post them for the grassroots activists that are looking for tips on how to write an effective press release. It is among the tools I make available to grassroots activists and campaigns. I have also posted a list of party registration, contact information, and when a seat comes up for election to help out those that want to get involved. Thanks to longtime reader and commenter Katie Teague for creating that list. Another resource available is the district maps I have posted. If you know a better source for a map that I have posted please leave a link for us.

Tim Allison Makes It Official ( CA-24)

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

These videos of Tim Allison were made when he was campaigning for Barack Obama:

Tim Allison, a major supporter of Barack Obama, is getting more serious in his campaign to represent the 24th congressional district as he continues to collect endorsements and has now officially filed his FEC paperwork. While other candidates continue to discuss with interest groups and supporters a potential run, Tim Allison has been campaigning at many different events.

He has been lining up endorsements ( click on continue reading for a list) and meeting grassroots activists at event after event. Because he was an early and hard working supporter of Barack Obama he has my attention. The field hasn't been set yet but Tim Allison has so far put together a more credible campaign than any Democrat locally in the last few cycles. If Gallegly runs again he will most likely be the prohibitive favorite. Gallegly has said he is running again which would mean this could be a practice run for a candidate when this becomes an open seat.

When Tim Allison comes to Simi Valley what questions do you want me to ask him?

Here are a few of our ongoing polls:

(This map of the 24th congressional district is interactive. Click on it to explore the district.)

I will add a poll with Republican names after more people submit potential candidates that I should list. Leave a comment with a name of a Republican you would like to see run for the House in Ventura County.

DCCC Talking To Jim Dantona

(This map of the 24th congressional district is interactive. Click on it to explore the district.)

I am able to confirm that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ( DCCC) has talked to Simi Valley political consultant Jim Dantona about running to represent the 24th congressional district.

Add his name to a growing list of potential challengers that include Shawn Stern, Tim Allison , Marie Panec, Mary Pallant, Jill Martinez, and Marta Jorgenson. If I see candidates start spending money I will assume that we have a sharks smelling blood scenario where they either think Rep. Gallegly is going to retire or they think he is beatable. It would be great if Rep. Gallegly pledged to announce his plans far enough ahead to give candidates of both parties the time they need to assemble their campaigns.

The last time locally I saw the sharks come out is when Peter Foy and Jim Dantona ran against an incumbent county supervisor.

Jim Dantona ran a really close and contested race for county supervisor against Peter Foy, after both of them beat the incumbent in the primary. Campaigns for county supervisor are officially nonpartisan but by the end it was clear what parties they belonged to because of the many mailers that went out labeling themselves and each other.

Jim_dantona_results.pngThe Simi Valley/Moorpark based 4th district has an overwhelming Republican registration advantage and Jim Dantona was able to keep the final results really close.

The 24th congressional district voted for Barack Obama for president. There is no denying that a campaign against a long term incumbent like Rep. Gallegly would normally strongly favor the incumbent. But when this becomes an open seat that is a whole different scenario.

State Assembly Candidate Susan Jordan Announces More Endorsements

jordan_email_header.1.jpg

State Assembly candidate Susan Jordan has announced more endorsements including a local labor union leader and more elected officials. Click on continue reading to see the email announcement.

She is running to replace her termed out husband, Pedro Nava in the State Assembly. Pedro Nava is running for Attorney General in a crowded Democratic Primary.

Her opponent in the campaign so far is Santa Barbara City Council Member Das Williams. The voter registration numbers strongly favor Democrats so the winner of the primary is expected to win the general election.

Term limits hasn't accomplished what voters intended. Instead candidates are constantly looking for the next position in government. If you had to vote would you change term limit laws?

Here is a map of the district:

I updated this entry to change union leaders to a union leader. Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate factual errors and typos being corrected.

Former Commander-in-Chief of U.S. Central Command Endorses Assembly Candidate Ferial Masry

FerialAndGeneral2.jpg

The Ferial Masry Campaign recently held an event with Retired USMC
General Hoar. If you have been following her political activism you might know she has worked with Bush administration officials to promote America in the Middle East. I don't know much about her involvement but it would be a great story for a print reporter to cover.

She is running against State Assembly Member Audra Strickland again.

Lt. Governor John Garamendi to be campaigning for local state assembly candidate

CaroleLutnessAndJohnGaramendi.jpg

The Carole Lutness campaign emailed me a massive update with new endorsements, precinct walking, fundraising and more. Click on continue reading for more details.

Her upcoming fundraiser with Lt. Governor John Garamendi isn't too big of a surprise being that he has already declared his intention of running for governor in 2010. Of all the names being tossed out for governor who do you support? I think Jerry Brown is going to be a compelling governor because of his long life story of serving the public or running for office at so many different levels. What other names have you heard or read?

Have you gotten any mail or seen any campaigning for the 38th district state assembly seat in Simi Valley? Carole Lutness did take questions from my readers and me in a previous entry. Click here to read that entry.

Firefighters getting a thank you from Hannah-Beth Jackson

The campaign for state senate is getting more exciting.

State Senate candidate Hannah-Beth Jackson is hosting a BBQ to thank local firefighters for their recent service. Click on continue reading for details.

She also has a free event in Simi Valley this weekend. I have heard that flyers have been distributed to a very wide area. I plan to be there. I will post photos and maybe some video afterward. Click here for details.

The contest is getting more press attention. Blogger Nick Welsh has something in the in his post to upset pretty much all sides of this election. Click here to read a funny and irreverent look at the candidates.

Here are some of the less colorful quotes:

"Angeles was also involved in Tony Strickland's feeble efforts to green wash his outspokenly anti-environmental voting record while in the Assembly."

Before leaving, McClintock anointed Strickland as his hand-picked successor. If Jackson hasn't sent Tom a handwritten thank-you note on perfumed stationary, then she's either an idiot or an ingrate.

Carole Lutness for State Assembly update

CaroleObama.jpg

State Assembly candidate Carole Lutness ( D ) has a campaign update that she sent out tonight. See it by clicking on continue reading.

Her campaign against Cameron Smyth ( R- Santa Clarita ) might depend on the polling numbers for Barack Obama in the 38th Assembly District. In her update she said Democratic Party leaders will be looking at those numbers to see if a wave is forming for Barack Obama that could bring other people into office. What do you think? Campaign talk or could Barack Obama perform rather well in this area?

Which candidate in this area has the best chance of pulling an upset? Marta Jorgenson, Ferial Masry, or Carole Lutness? Or do you think another candidate could be putting together a campaign that will surprise us?

Greg Aug 2006.jpg

The 35th State Assembly District is currently represented by Democrat Pedro Nava, who replaced Hannah-Beth Jackson when her 6 years were up. Republican Gregory Gandrud would like to replace Pedro Nava in the State Assembly.

What questions do you have for Gregory Gandrud ?

Here are a few from me to start us off:

1. To compromise with Democrats, the governor, and Republicans would you support any tax increases at all if it was a part of a package that reduced some spending?
2. Who was the last member of the Democratic party that you voted for?
3. Will you be supporting the amendment to make marriage between a man and a woman again or do you support keeping same sex marriage legal?

State Senate District 19 update

Have you seen this interview with Hannah-Beth Jackson? How did I miss it?

Here is a quick run down of the latest news from the campaigns of Tony Strickland and Hannah-Beth Jackson:

1. About a week ago I challenged each campaign to invite people 21 and under to all of their fundraisers for free. I hope that more young people can go to exciting events and and focus their attention in politics.

The Hannah-Beth Jackson campaign has agreed to open their doors to every fund raiser to supporters 21 and younger in an effort to reach out to young people. If you see an event you want to go to print out this ticket just call or email the campaign.

The Strickland campaign hasn't responded. I will update you if they do.

2. The Star had an article from Timm Herdt about candidates in safe districts helping other candidates. Recently, Assemblymember Cameron Smyth went precinct walking with Tony Strickland in Santa Clarita generating some press coverage in a local paper there .

I am looking forward to seeing Assemblymember Pedro Nava and State Senate candidate Fran Pavely helping out Hannah-Beth Jackson more. Anybody know details about have they have already helped her or how they worked together in the past?

3. The Hannah-Beth Jackson campaign is throwing a party with other Democrats to celebrate their new office opening in Santa Barbara this week. Click on continue reading for details.

4. Another recent article from The Star by Timm Herdt had details about the fundraising from both campaigns. Click here to read the story and let the spinning in the comments section begin.

As a reminder: You don't need to register, use a real email address, or use your real name to post. If you see something that should be removed please email me.

And another reminder: Timm Herdt spells his first name with two M's. If you spell it wrong you will upset him.

Click on continue reading to see a press release from Tony Strickland's campaign about his fundraising.

5. The Hannah-Beth Jackson campaign has a statement up about the proposed prison hospital in Camarillo. Click here to read the full statement.
