( This picture of Jim Dantona ( apparent candidate for State Senate CA-19 with Democratic candidate for President Bill Richardson was sent in by Laura Winchester. Laura, is that a Jim Dantona for state senate button?)

A sharp eyed reader spotted this phrase on the Ventura County Democratic Party's website:

19SD Convention Delegates
Jim Dantona - Candidate Proxy
Jay Kapitz - Delegate
Dave Ettinger - Delegate

37AD Convention Delegates
Ferial Masry - Candidate
Chris Robson - Delegate
Ingrid VanEckert - Delegate

24CD Convention Delegates
Jill Martinez - Candidate

More signs are pointing to Jim Dantona ( D ) running in the CA-19 State Senate Race. On the Republican side we have Tony Strickland and maybe others. Anyone hear updates on that?

Barbra Williamson's group gets fined.

How is the other investigation into the membership communications of the Ventura County Republican Central Committee coming along? Did the DA formally pass on it? Where in the review process is it? Have all complaints been dropped?

Either way, keep the documents coming into me.

( The California Association of Political Centrists sees itself as a middle of the road political group in the mold of Dr. Keith Richman. )

The CAPC has announced the formation of their advisory council for the upcoming elections. With Romper Room in mind let me tell you who I see out there that stands out:

Leslie Cornejo ( Former GOP chair before Mike Osbourn and his insurgents overthrew her.)
Frank Dantona ( Hmm..the last name sounds familiar...)
Donna Prenta ( Looks like she has some new partners...)
Katie Teague ( Will she ever run against one of the Stricklands for something? That would an explosive race)
Barbra Williamson ( Of the famous Ask Barbra column on this website.)

What names on the list stand out to you folks?

Here is your chance to help Peter Foy reform county government. He wants you to apply for a variety of volunteer positions with the county government. If you plan on applying leave a comment what position you are applying for.

If you end up working with Peter Foy you can always blog here on the front page of your efforts and meetings.

The politics of cars...

( Moorpark City Councilmember Keith Millhouse)

This article in The Acorn by Sylvie Belmond puts Keith Millhouse and Peter Foy at opposite ends of the environmental spectrum.

Keith Millhouse believes he should set a good example and that battling climate change will help us as a nation. Keith was quoted as saying " Someone has to take the lead in establishing some environmental leadership."

Peter Foy disagrees with pretty much every peer reviewed climate change study when he says the science isn't proven. He was quoted as saying " "They say global warming is a fact but I'm not sure we have the exact science to allow us to make a conclusive decision". The science that the climate is changing is proven. Even the Bush administration agrees. The only thing left to debate is what part of it is caused by humans. Of course, maybe the article quoted Peter Foy wrong. Maybe he really said climate change is proven, but the causes are not. If so, I expect him to request a correction for the confusion.

Cars can be political choices. We choose between buying American and buying imports ( which are often made in America!). We choose between different MPG ratings which influences our foreign policy. ( BTW, check out this latest American advance in hybrid cars. GO DETROIT!)

I see it as a mark of patriotism to try to wean America off of foreign oil. With that in mind Keith Millhouse, you have earned my respect.

Peter Foy, as a conservative Republican I didn't expect you to believe we should do something about global warming. But don't worry I haven't given up on you coming around. I promise, I won't call you a flip flopper or anything. I have been wrong about a few positions I have taken, and I am willing to admit it. Join up with some popular Republicans like John McCain and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Hey, even George W. Bush's administration now admits to some degree of human influenced climate change!

( This photoshop was created by a reader Brian Mack to focus on Peter Foy's ballot designation as a farmer. I wish Peter Foy luck as he tries to pass his reforms. We will be watching him and helping when we see needed changes get sidetracked. )

Peter Foy has taken office. Here is one article from The Ventura County Star about it.

The article fleshes out his term limits platform to 3 consecutive terms. After that a supervisor must return to private life, although they could run again after a term out of office.

It doesn't mention his package of ethics reforms. We should all help him by suggesting new ideas for ethical reform. What reforms would you like to see?

I will forward his team the suggestions after a few weeks so that everyone has time to think of ideas our community needs.

Surprise! Peter Foy won!

I ran into a couple of nice people that worked on the Peter Foy campaign and they said Jim Dantona called and conceded the race to Peter Foy. I know at this point it isn't much of a surprise, but congrats to Peter Foy. I am sure you are relieved at the end of a long election.

They also said they think Peter Foy was talking about 3 terms when he referred to term limits. I don't have a pledge or anything like that. I would like to see more details on his term limits pledge. For example, will he limit himself if the rest of the board does not?

Good Luck Mr. Foy. I am most looking forward to your work on ethics reform and a new gang unit.

If you ever have press releases about the work you are doing, send them in and I will post them.

Peter Foy up by 4 votes.

Davis and Lundstrom still in the lead.

( Editor's note: The above picture will be replaced with a video in the near future. It isn't your computer, I can't make out all the people either.)

The photo above is from Peter Foy's recent press conference. I want to thank Lisa Mee-Stephenson from the Foy campaign for sending it in. Lisa is also working on supplying video which I am happy to post in the next few days. If your campaign has a video of photo to submit please send it in. If you need a video made, e-mail me.

Brian Dennert here. From time to time if someone wants to write on a topic I allow them to guest blog. I have done it on Tim Keaney's website and he has an open invite to do it here. I have also had Arleigh Kidd ( Local Teachers' Union Rep.) blog here. You don't need to agree with me. In fact Tim Keaney and I often disagree but that doesn't mean I don't read what he writes.

Anyways, our latest writer wants to use a pen name.He wants to be called Elvis but claims it has nothing to do with the king. "Elvis" seems nice enough but I always give more value to comments left by people that use their real names. You should too!

The above picture was sent in by The Dantona Campaign from The Simi Valley Days Parade. I would post Peter Foy pictures if they would send them in.

Towards the back of Friday's Acorn there was an article about Foy VS Dantona. It mentions debates ( Peter Foy has no comment, Jim Dantona is all for it) immigration, endorsements. Peter Foy has the support of Judy Mikels and Jim Dantona is pumped about his support from public safety groups.

Somehow I am expected to believe it is about policy but something tells me that Judy Mikels supporting Peter Foy is more about the tough race Jim Dantona ran against her.

I wonder what Peter Foy thinks about the county's decision to make Tapo Canyon Park into a mixed use park including RV's?

Ballot Titles

| | Comments (24)

Farmer_Foy.jpg

I have often wondered about the impact that titles on ballots have on the minds of voters. Some people go with "educator" when running for education positions even if by educator they mean something far removed with what the image conjures. Others put down businessperson hoping that will make them look good with the public's money. In an election season with so many candidates can the ballot title sway the vote of someone that isn't informed in a race? If I didn't get around to reading about two candidates and one said criminal defense lawyer and the other said police officer, I'd vote for the cop.

If you click here you can see the candidate list and the ballot title that will be listed under their name.

There are some rather interesting titles. Here are my takes on them.

For school board:

Steven Lee Bloore is a certified hypnotherapist.
I hate all those uncertified people running around! Okay I apologize to all the people this type of therapy has helped. For more information on what it takes to become certified go to this link.

Eric Lundstrom is a Financial Analyst and a Father.
Playing up the family vote looks like a good idea. But does this end up inferring the other candidates don't have children? Of course the financial analyst looks great.

For County Supervisor:

Jim Dantona is an Independent Small Businessman.
What would a dependent businessman be? A franchise owner? What is wrong with franchise places? Dantona might have just lost the franchise owner vote. There goes 9 votes down the drain.

Peter Foy is a businessman and a farmer.
He has Jim Dantona beat because he is a businessman and a farmer. Dantona should have put down Father, coach, small independent businessman, educator, part-time firefighter, financial analyst, and a farmer/rancher!

In Eastern Ventura County there are a few farms left and many voters have sympathy for the family farm so I wonder how this one will work with him.

In Oxnard Mayor Thomas Holden is an optometrist.
Isn't kind of weird that after Mayor Lopez they would elect another optometrist in Oxnard? Don't they have any dentists with political aspirations?

Anyways, leave your comments on ballot titles. And thank you Brian Mack for another great photoshop. If you have a nomination for a photoshop leave it in the comments. I hear Glen Becerra liked the last one. I am hoping Peter Foy can use this one when promoting his campaign to farmers.
