One Less Democrat Battling For The Nomination To Go Against Gallegly

I have confirmed that Marta Jorgensen is going to end her campaign for the Democratic nomination for congress. She faced an uphill battle in the primary against Tim Allison and of course after that the winner will be facing Rep. Elton Gallegly.

I have often given Marta Jorgensen a hard time for her campaigning skills but at a time like this we should remember that she did what so many of us will never do. She stepped into the arena and declared she is running for office. Marta, this TR quote goes out to you:

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

I haven't seen Marie Panec or Shawn Stern campaigning much lately. So far Tim Allison is the clear favorite for the nomination.

In related news Marta Jorgensen long agoendorsed Das Williams in his race against Susan Jordan for the Democratic nomination in the 35th State Assembly District.

Congress 2010: Marta Jorgenson

Marta Jorgenson is running again for the Democratic nomination in the 24th congressional district.

After she dropped and endorsed another candidate last time she entered the race again and won the nomination. Ventura County Star reporter Timm Herdt wrote an article speculating it was her choice of ballot designation that earned her the nomination. David Atkins blogged over at Calitics what he influenced that elected.

I have sent her a request to interview her on this blog.

DCCC Talking To Jim Dantona

I am able to confirm that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ( DCCC) has talked to Simi Valley political consultant Jim Dantona about running to represent the 24th congressional district.

Add his name to a growing list of potential challengers that include Shawn Stern, Tim Allison , Marie Panec, Mary Pallant, Jill Martinez, and Marta Jorgenson. If I see candidates start spending money I will assume that we have a sharks smelling blood scenario where they either think Rep. Gallegly is going to retire or they think he is beatable. It would be great if Rep. Gallegly pledged to announce his plans far enough ahead to give candidates of both parties the time they need to assemble their campaigns.

The last time locally I saw the sharks come out is when Peter Foy and Jim Dantona ran against an incumbent county supervisor.

 Jim Dantona ran a really close and contested race for county supervisor against Peter Foy, after both of them beat the incumbent in the primary. Campaigns for county supervisor are officially nonpartisan but by the end it was clear what parties they belonged to because of the many mailers that went out labeling themselves and each other.

Jim_dantona_results.pngThe Simi Valley/Moorpark based 4th district has an overwhelming Republican registration advantage and Jim Dantona was able to keep the final results really close.

The 24th congressional district voted for Barack Obama for president. There is no denying that a campaign against a long term incumbent like Rep. Gallegly would normally strongly favor the incumbent. But when this becomes an open seat that is a whole different scenario.

Ventura County Democrats Hosting Candidates For Attorney General

Note: I bumped this to the top of my blog because this is the biggest annual Democratic event.

UPDATE: State Senator Fran Pavley, recently back from meeting with President Barack Obama, will be attending. Here is a photo of her meeting President Barack Obama:

Fran Pavley pushed through legislation that would have allowed California to set a different standard for new vehicles. Under President George W. Bush the EPA didn't allow the legislation to go into effect. But President Obama brought together environmentalists and automanufacturers together to agree on some changes that create higher federal standards. Her legislation started here in California but will be going into effect across the nation.

The Ventura County Democratic Central Committee holds an annual Spring Fling Party to raise money for their organization and to have a good time. This event is great for aspiring candidates to meet with activists, get a quick introduction, and practice their stump speech.

There is room set out for those that want to put up a table to support their causes and candidates.

This year they are also inviting all of the Democratic candidates for attorney general to speak. There will be opportunities to meet the candidates, ask them questions, and sign up to help their campaigns. I haven't yet confirmed the list of Attorney General candidates that will be there.

Democrat Shawn Stern has a great looking website put together. I am sure more policy positions and future events will be posted in the coming months. He does know a way to drive up his google rank and to catch my attention is to post a link to this blog.
