Common Core standards

It looks like Republican activist Tony Dolz is preparing to run for school board again. When he ran last time he wanted to ban a book about Afghanistan.

This time he is worried about the Common Core standards. Will Sharia law influence them? Go to his website and read for yourself.

I am not surprised that someone locally wants to campaign on banning The Kite Runner. I am surprised at how much of the Republican establishment supports him.

This is not the best the Ventura County Republican Central Committee can offer local schools.

The Kite Runner is not getting banned

Tea Party school board candidate Tony Dolz did not earn enough support to win a seat on the school board in Thousand Oaks. He was supported by the Republican Party and many Tea Party activists. His website used to have only two issues on it.

One of his issues was banning The Kite Runner. Why? Because in the process of making the Taliban look evil it describes some of the horrible things they do in graphic detail. I am not sure why he wanted to ban The Kite Runner.

I think high school students are ready to learn about the Taliban.

Conejo Valley School Board candidate Tony Dolz has a real problem with the book The Kite Runner. His platform on his website lists only two issues. One of them is to ban high school teachers from using The Kite Runner.

What surprises me is that the Republican Party supports such a candidate. He has support from Tony Strickland and the local Tea Party. Do they really think The Kite Runner should be banned? Is that really their priority? With all of the problems in schools their priority is banning this book?

Fun fact: The author of Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury, had close connections to Ventura County.

Maybe we can suggest those in favor of censorship to read his book.
