ABOUT THIS SITE
Ventura Speakers' Corner is an online collaboration between Foothill Technology High School and the Ventura County Star towards providing an online forum for the community of Ventura.
Discussions will start naturally out of Mr. Geib’s 11th grade American Experience class with his student then will open up to the entire community. Both Mr. Geib and his students look forward eagerly to reading the comments of any and all persons who wish to continue the online discussion! The more persons contribute their opinions and experiences, the more rich and valuable will be the discussion.
Anyone with an opinion to offer who cares enough to post here is most welcome to do so.
PURPOSE
Modeled after the famous Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park in London (learn more here about Speaker's Corner), hopefully this online space will prove equally as a catalyst for thought and discussion for the members of Ventura, both old and young. The Internet, as of yet, has not fulfilled its promise as a means for increased and enriched communication.
Perhaps this experiment will be a small effort towards that goal.
GUIDELINES
Please remember to argue fairly and refrain from getting personal. By all means say what you have to say and do it loud and clear, but do so with a tincture of tact and humility, if at all possible. Proper grammar is a plus. Intelligible reasoning is a plus. To the extent possible, make sense. Anyone who engages in uncivil or ad hominem arguments - or worse, tries to sell someone something - will be banned from this blog. Be advised!
But above all else, please review the opinions and arguments of all involved in this experiment and appreciate the sheer diversity of various points of view, as well as the voices of those who have volunteered to share the slant of their mind, the wealth of their experience.
