Questions About SEIU Political Donations to Jackson and Others

| | Comments (13)

Unions, so far, have donated a total of $97,000 of the money raised by Hannah Jackson for State Senate. One of the unions, the SEIU,gave $7200 on May 22, 2008.

For those that do not know the union, it is actively recruiting illegal aliens as members. In other words, money donated by the SEIU includes money from dues from the illegal aliens to Hannah Jackson. In this YouTube, it shows an official of SEIU proudly proclaiming the recruitment of illegal aliens into the SEIU.

The SEIU supports drivers licenses for illegal aliens, benefits for them, and jobs. The fact they are openly and aggressively recruiting illegal aliens as members shows the values of this union. Now, this union is donating money to Hannah Jackson.

Do you think she should give the money back and refuse to take any more money from the SEIU? Do you think she should be supportive of businesses or unions that promote the hiring of illegal aliens? Do you think she will openly oppose the SEIU?

State campaign finance laws states that foreign nationals may not donate to candidates for office. Yet, the SEIU is taking dues money from illegal aliens, knowingly. Are part of the dues going to the SEIU political fund? If so, doesn't that show that foreign nationals are therefore donating to political candidates like Hannah Jackson?

What else do we know about the SEIU, the "donor" of $7200 to Jackson?

From a web site, SEIU Exposed you will find this:

SEIU members in Los Angeles were victimized by one of the most appalling cases of union corruption in recent history.

Members saw their money illegally used to support the city council race of Martin Ludlow. Ludlow was sentenced for conspiracy to illegally funnel money from SEIU Local 99 to his campaign and ordered to pay $36,000 in restitution........

In the same scandal, former SEIU head Janett Humprhies collaborated with Ludlow to use union funds to pay the salaries of six union employees working on his campaign.

Other recent scandals include:

* In June 2006, the National Labor Relations Board found that SEIU interfered with the free choice of employees by illegally making promises to wave initiation fees - much like the union accuses employers of making promises to employees during union drives.
* In June 2006, a federal judge ordered SEIU Local 1000 to pay $37,000 as punishment for failing to give members adequate information about how the union was spending employees' agency fees (which are forced payments from employees who do not wish to union members).

Question: Should any candidate that receives funds from the SEIU return the donation? Would you?

If money going to political parties from energy and tobacco companies can be questioned, shouldn't money from the SEIU also be questioned?

I watched the Video and nowhere does he proclaim he is actively recruiting illegal aliens as members. He is acknowledging they are there which is common sense. If a worker comes to an employer and presents fake documents and the employer doesn't know it he may be a victim, that depends on the quality of the documents and how lazy the employer is. If an employer or organization is convicted of helping an illegal get false documents that is with out a doubt a crime and they should be punished, don't care who they are. The key here is investigation and conviction.

Brian,

It's implicit in what he's saying. You don't have to read too far between the lines to pick it up.

Watch it again, and pay attention this time...

Ok...I'll split the difference.

No, frankly Franks, this YouTube video you reference does not document that SEIU "is actively recruiting illegal aliens as members". It also does not clearly state what "Brian Leshon" states either...Mr Medina does not merely acknowledge "that they are there".

What Mr Medina does say is that, in his and maybe SEIU's opinion, these workers seek to be upwardly mobile, and they realize that workers organized are workers empowered. SEIU works to empower workers. Workers who want control over their work lives (especially when they are exploited) seek that control, and Unions are one step to providing that!

As to the rest, I don't know about the allegations you raise (other than the SEIU Exposed site is a clear anti-union shill) , but I will say that SEIU is comprised of MANY individual organizations, some of which, yes, might go over the line sometimes. They get pulled back into line as did our former legacy Local 998 here in Ventura.

You fail to make the direct connection between the allegations and the donations other than that the same umbrella organization is involved. That is a slim rope to hang your hopes on IMHO!

The tobacco companies sell a product that is a known and identified destroyer of quality life, even a killer.

If Boy/Girl Strickland or the County Repubs want to take money from them...well...whatever! Some of their constituents are smokers, but I'd guess even more of them "are not".

I'd bet the "are nots" don't like second hand smoke...we'll see if this money was worth the taking!

I've heard of a tale, about George Bernard Shaw, celebrated playright, in which it is alleged that he offered a "woman of society" money, via check, to got to bed with him...the amount was such that she considered and agreed. Something like half-way up the stairs Shaw tore up the check and offered her a penny. She replied: "What sort of woman do you think I am??", he is alleged to have replied: "We already know what sort of woman you are, now we are just hagging about the price."

Don't know if it's true, but it kind of fits here.

It's said you are known by the company you keep. I'll stand by my Union for worker empowerment. You and the VC Repubs and the Stricky odd couple can stand by the Merchants of Death.

Let the chips fall were they may. I'm for full disclosure anyway myself.

Oh, an in the interests of disclosure....I am an active member of SEIU Local 721 here in Ventura County.

Well, Mr. TJ, it doesn't surprise me that you're a union lackey. Thanks for admitting it, at least.

No one is addressing the fact that Hannah-Beth Jackson took money from big tobacco too (via Ron Calderon's campaign funds being funneled to her campaign). This is worse, in my book, than taking it and reporting it, like Tony did.

Mongo, It seems they will never acknowledge that fact. If they do all they're left with is some he-said she-said from a couple of months ago. Just like they are more than willing to lump all vc repubs with tobacco I'm willing to throw the unions in with promoting illegal immigration.

Well, MF and standdown, it doesn't surprise us that you are lacking lackeys for the right (I mean wrong). Your constant vilification of anything counter to your radical neo-conservative POV is immediately shut down. SEIU does great things for not only their members, but for the businesses and customers they serve. We would be surrounded by sweatshops without them.

Once again another liberal turning a blind eye to the truth. They are all high an mighty about the perceived wrongs of others, but when its proven to happen on their side of the street they ignore it with blinders on. Do they admit to the connection...no. Instead they launder it through others and claim ignorance. The GOP isn't perfect, we all know that, and there has been plenty of mistakes. But to just blatantly ignore the fact that your most publicized complaint against Strickland is happening in Jackson's camp just boggles my mind. Vilification is the word of the day. As in the SEIU ignores the vilification of the sweatshops for taking all their workers. But I only kid...

Tony has taken $1,000 from Boskovich Farms in Oxnard which is prominently featured on the web site wehirealiens.com for having hired illegal aliens. Audra sponsored legislation for them, too.

If only hypocrisy could balance the state budget! The Stricklands would surely get my vote.

I see Mongo Flamo and Steve Frank are still talking to themselves....er....I mean each other.

MONGO....I want to be very, very clear.

I do not EVER hide, not in any way including cutesy pseudonym's like "Mongo Flamo".

YES I am a Union member and I'm not afraid to say so. Let me tell you right here and now I am not anyones F@*$K%NG lackey.

I hope you get that really loud and clear while you cower behind your phony screen name.

If Hannah took tobacco money, it's news to me, and I would consider it as I would boy/girl Strickland.

Yeah, sure you would, Tommy. You are only interested in making partisan statements in support of your girl, Hannah-Beth.

You're a union lackey, tried and true. Your vehement efforts to deny it only serve to reinforce my original conclusions.

You must be totally asleep at the wheel, or in severe denial, if you haven't heard anything about HBJ's receipt of tobacco money via the Ron Calderon campaign. Everybody seems to know about it except you...

how dare you, MF, continue to name call and inflame. we're all entitled to our opinions.

As I'm entitled to mine, Hmm. How long have you been blogging now?
