While all the excitement was on the budget, taxes and "reform", our Assemblywoman Audra Strickland also kept her eye on two bills being pushed through the legislature in the dead of night, last night.
The bill the Assembly had was SB 1092. I think the bill the Senate had was AB 1189. Both bills included funding for Clark Kelso's attempt to bring a prison to Ventura County.

Working with the legislative leaders, she was able to stop both bills from even coming to the floor.
This is a major step for Ventura County. Kelso thinks he is going to start building his prison early next year. Now he will have to go to court to get the money. Strickland showed that the State legislature, Republicans and Democrats have little trust in a man who refuses to give details on how tax dollars will be spent.
While others are posturing and talking, Assemblywoman Strickland has come through for the people of Ventura County. She and her staff should be thanked for catching this little seen or noticed bill and making sure it did not make it out of the legislature.

Audra should definitely be heralded for saving the day by stopping these two bills from moving forward. The construction of this prison hospital is a horrible idea for both Camarillo and Ventura County as a whole. I've personally spoken to many, many people about it and have yet to find one single person who thinks it's a good idea.
Whether Judge Henderson will agree or not remains to be seen. But, I think the residents of the County should be thankful to Audra for fighting the good fight on this thing so far.
OHH!! Thank You Audra Strickland and staff!! Thank you for serving us and our children.
Amen to that! Audra has done a fantastic job serving the community she represents and always has. The same goes for Tony when he was in the Assembly.
Hannah-Beth Jackson was an aloof, distant, uncompromising, old-school "government knows best", representative of the Santa Barbara limousine liberals when she was in the Assembly previously.
We can expect more of the same if she's elected to the State Senate.
Thanks,
Not only to the Assemblywoman, but to everyone opposed to this prison, Citizens, PHAC, City Council, Law Enforcement, School Board, Board of Supervisors, Senate, Assembly, other County Citys, Hospital Professionals,Prudential, and to all, I did not mention.
My hats off to all of you. Great Job!
Thanks,
To you A/G Jerry Brown for stepping up and taking an interest to put a stop to this madness with no fiscal oversight.
With Blank Checks and Brinks Trucks heading to the State's Capital, it is time to say no!
