Education Association, School Board Member, Misled Public About Education Funding

| | Comments (2)

That was a polite way to say that the California School Board Association lied about the budget to the parents, teachers and taxpayers of California.

In an article in the Sunday Star, Kathi Smith of the Ojai school board wrote, "With its budget signed by the governor, the state Legislature decided to cut $3 billion in funding to K-12 public education. California School Boards Association president, Oxnard's own Paul H. Chatman, said, "This budget falls drastically short of providing our students -- California's future work force -- with the resources they need to succeed." Why don't people view school funding in light of the future adults produced by schools?"

She is claiming that the State CUT education funding.

In fact, this is a downright lie, and they know it. And this, in the face of most school districts having declining enrollment.

This is an excerpt from the Governors Budget that he just signed -

EDUCATION FUNDING
Funds the Proposition 98 guarantee at $58.1 billion - $1.5 billion higher than the current-year funding. This level of funding eliminates the proposed reductions in the Governor's May Revision and maintains funding to base categorical programs such as class size reduction, special education, child nutrition programs and child care.

The $3 billion dollars is what the group wanted, but did not get. In other words. If they asked for $8 billion and did not get it, they would consider the education budget received an $8 billion cut.

These folks, are teaching our children. At the least, they are being dishonest.

What do you think, is it appropriate for the California School Boards Association to lie to the public? Do they think that the ends justifies the means? In a State where we have an over 30% drop out rate, don't you think we deserve the truth from those who say they are professionals?

Write your thoughts.

Voters need to understand that the CSBA is PRIVATE. The name sounds like a government agency, but it isn't. The Ventura County Board of Education needs to drop its membership in this leftist socialist organization. The County Board is charged $14K a year just for dues. What are Trustees from all the Ventura County districts getting out of it? The expensive conferences are just excuses for parties and lobbying junkets for consultants. Taxpayers are footing the bill for hotel rooms costing $400 a conference. Taxpayers pick up the tab for the travel and the meals. What a waste. This organization is promoting sanctuary for illegal aliens. They want all the school boards to agree NOT to impose policies that would have their employees determine the citizenship of parents or students. WRONG! This is exactly where we need to start if we want to reverse the flood of illegal immigration. Pull in in the welcome mat. Every district in California could make a new policy this winter to demand that ONLY legal signatures could be given to sign up students for classes, sports, or field trips, etc. There is no law against it, only the private policy #114 of the CSBA. School clerks are lied to and told that it is "illegal" to ask parents if they can prove they are either citizens or guest workers. There is no law prohibiting this question, IF all the parents/guardians are asked the same question. Let's vote in new school board members here across Ventura County who promise to vote in such a policy. And let's "out" every administrator and superintendent who lies to the public and tries to say that such a policy is impossible. Better yet, let's fire every superintendent who promotes a "sanctuary" policy by not requiring proof of legal residency from parents.
