Terri Schiavo
Comments
I'm from Puerto Rico, and even in this country we believe in dying with dignity, If she could speak she would tell how she doesn't want to be seen like that, even more, she didn't even want to be seen fat, that is how all this happenned...
Posted by: Denisse at October 16, 2006 4:24 PMTerri may not have had all of the equipment hooked up to her as seen in this cartoon but she might as well have. I've reasearched this poor womens final 15 years, it is amazing how beautiful she was. And yes she did collapse because she had an eating disorder and developed a potassium imbalance, she wanted to look amazing even if she hurt herself. The only person that seemed to relize she didnt want to be seen like that was her husband. she was in the state for 15 long years, there is no reason why anybody should be kept alive like that. It is undignified. Euthanasia was obviously the correct choice. Im only 18 and i have only read and watched old videos of this case, but i am pro-euthanasia because of it.
Posted by: Ed at November 28, 2007 3:03 PMIt's all very ironic, the way she died.
Posted by: monkeipeg at October 21, 2008 2:42 PMI just came across this on the web. This cartoon does not represent the truth.
Terri Schiavo should have been allowed to die of natural causes, and at her own time. Instead, her husband and the court had her source of food and water removed so that she could die of dehydration. That is not compassion, unless you are talking about compassion for her poor husband who was sick of caring for her and too proud to turn her care over to her parents.
I have seen pictures of this woman in her so-called vegetative state. She was by NO means a vegetable NOR was she brain-dead. By testimony of her parents and lawyers, she responded to people, and vocalized, and expressed happiness. It is a huge blot on our nation that our judicial system closed its eyes to the facts, and the judge refused to see her (as he was invited to do), nor would he even see video footage of her. We killed a disabled person, not a brain-dead body.
Shame!! SHAME on us!
Posted by: Tammy at April 7, 2009 3:49 PMif she was to die of natural causes then when she first collapsed and wasnt breathing in her home and had no heart beat should they have taken her straight to the morgue? I mean that to me is saying she died. But they brought her back to life and let her live a horrible life that im sure most people would not want to live. its too bad she couldnt speak for herself. i wonder what people would do if they could live life in her shoes for a day a month a year let alone 15. come on people...think about it.

Terri only had a feeding tube attached, not all the questionable apparatus that appear in your cartoon. No IV, no catheter, no breathing tube. And for those whose activism is grounded in anger and hate, true concern does looks a lot like political grandstanding and vote-garnering. They can't conceive of anyone actually giving of self with no thought of reward. It's not something they could ever imagine doing themselves.
