The protests in the Muslim world over Danish cartoons about the prophet Mohammed continued week after week (and five months after they first came out), seemingly out of all proportion to any kind of normal reactions of anger.

Sludge to Kern County

Ventura County trucks its solid human waste sludge (a.k.a. "biosolids") to Kern County north of Bakersfield, and so does Los Angeles County. Kern voters are about to pass restrictions on sludge imports from hated Southern California, pushing Ventura County to seek alternatives.

Curbing Mideast oil

President Bush wants to reduce imports of Mideast oil, but still mostly supports the use of fossil fuels (with a vague nod toward alternative fuels). This cartoon is not intended to be a literal expectation, but more an expression of Administration attitudes (e.g., drilling the Alaskan Arctic wilderness).
