A third injunction zone to limit gang activity in the Port Hueneme and Oxnard area has been proposed... but then, why shouldn't EVERY area be free of gang activity?

Uninsured wave

A story in the Star talked about the difficulties of finding doctors to be on call, the financial strains on hospitals and the physical strains on nurses and other emergency room workers; a common thread is the influx of uninsured patients taxing the system and using emergency rooms as their only choice for treatment.

Veterans care

New reports have been pouring out about substandard care for veterans at places such as Walter Reed hospital, but that is only part of the problem. The percentage of soldiers who survive their wounds is at an all-time high, and the number of veterans needing care is well beyond the current facilities' capacity. The federal budget -- whether you believe veterans' funding has increased or has been cut back -- is not keeping pace with this influx in any event.
