Gun violence in America

I took this toon to be yet another knee-jerk response to a major news story involving guns and the idea that we need to have either more control or elimination of these weapons. The fact is that there are adequate gun laws on the books that if properly enforced do limit who can legally own a gun. In this case and many, many others is that you have a deranged person that was not identified as a serious threat until it was too late. Those school officials and medical personnel that recognized this person's mental instability were bound by student confidentiality laws that prevented them from doing something as simple as notifying his parents and similarly from entering his name onto a state watchlist that would have prevented him from purchasing a handgun. So if you want to be fair, perhaps you should draw a bunch of lawyers with blood on their hands for handcuffing those professionals that could have made a difference in this trajedy.

The Second Amendment is Homeland Security.

The Second Amendment IS homeland security.

We could legislate all of our weapons into the "Corn Field". (Thank you Rod Serling). But, isn't that what Nazi Germany, The Soviet Union, and Mainland China did? What price freedon?

Bleeding America, a nation full of violence and hatred, not a country of freedom, a country of imperialism, and blood sucking politians who could give a rats ass of passing legislative laws regarding gun violence.

the second amendment does not say we have the right to own guns. It says "in order to maintain a well balanced milicia, citizens have the right to own guns. I don't see any militias around anymore....do you. guns do kill people.

as to the comment about the meaning of the second amendment: one would have to be living in a box to think that the second amendment only referred to people in an organized militia. the first, second, and fourth amendments clearly say "the people" would you argue that the first amendment only protects the right of the government to have free speech? the second amendment does say that the people have the right to own guns, and that that right shall not be infringed. also as to the comment " guns do kill people" actually they don't. The gun needs an operator in order to fire. a car needs a driver to run someone over. it is the intent of the operator that matters, the object by itself cannot kill anybody.

The Second Amendment is meant to protect us from our government. when you here that adage "come and get 'em (my guns)" that is the common man's statement of confidence that he wishes to keep the United States a democracy ruled by the people, without any threat of a "Reign of Terror" or any kind of tyranny that can ultimately be stopped by the simple fact that American citizens have the ability to protect themselves from their government. Without the Second Amendment we would eventually turn into a Socialist nation with large government control over what you eat, where you live, how you speak, and so forth.

If you outlaw guns, then only the outlaws will have them.
