GMO animals

qqxsgGMOArk.jpg

The FDA is looking into how it will certify genertically modified organisms, including genetically altered animals, for food consumption. Among the problems with GMO products is that people with allergies (including potentially fatal ones) may have no idea how they will react to consuming plants and animals that don't exist in nature.

The rough sketch for this cartoon that was shown to the Opinion Page Editor for the okay is below.

do you really think that we will be able to feed the world in the future WITHOUT genetically modified organisms?

and idealistic "lets completely restructure the economies of the world's largest countries and stop wasting land" arguments wont EVER do a damn thing.

we are human. that means we have to figure out a way to solve our problems that factors in human nature, rather than trying to change human nature (which will not and cannot change by definition!).

I think it's debateable whether we HAVE to use GMOs. Perhaps more efficient use of resources and a greater shift from animal-based to plant-based food sources would be a better alternative. And even if we do need to go more into GMOs, there still are safety concerns for people --especially those prone to allergic reactions -- trying to consume items that don't exist naturally and for which the body has no built-in defenses.

this to the opposing forces: You would rather that many more people die from disease we could have fixed?
