Chinese goods

Americans shop largely on the basis of price. That's why retailers such as Wal-Mart do so well, and one of the reasons they can offer tempting prices is because so much of their inventory comes from China, where inconveniences such as labor laws and environmental standards are much looser, allowing them to hold down prices. Unfortunately, not many people wish to pay extra for more socially-conscious shopping.
