Santa Ana winds... and fires

This cartoon is unusual in that I drew it in color (for online only) then converted it to black & white for print, rather than the reverse.
Sharp-eyed readers of more than one newspaper may have seen this reprinted in the L.A. Times on Sunday Oct. 28th. It's actually the fourth or fifth time this has happened over four years. Pulitzer-winning editorial cartoonist Joel Pett writes a weekly column for the Times, "Toon-Op," which is a look at editorial cartooning from the previous week, and Pett picks three cartoons from around the country to illustrate his column; these are strictly his picks, and the Times gives him a free hand. And no, the editors at the Star seem okay with this, even though it's a supposedly competing paper -- the last time it happened, Editor Joe Howry came over to say how pleased he was to see the Star's cartoon in the big paper down the road.

Steve:
I have a suggestion for your next cartoon. It is a suggestion for punishment I have made after each fire season that I have lived through...and that dates back to before the Bel_Air Fire of 1961;
Once those arsonists responsible for many of the fires are caught, tried, and convicted:

Don't forget the marshmallows.
S'mores, anyone?
