Calif. vs. the EPA

The Environmental Protection Agency has refused to allow California and other states to set emissions standards more stringent than federal standards. Lawsuits are promised.

Bush Global Warming monument

It was reported that, at the just-concluded international summit on Global Warming held in Bali, there was exasperation from pretty much every other country at the United States' reluctance to take strong action (despite the U.S. being the world's biggest carbon dioxide emitter), and a widespread resigned attitude of needing to wait for another president to succeed Bush before much is likely to get done.

There to stay

Feel free to sing along. There is an increasing belief that some kind of US military presence will need to stay in Iraq long term, perhaps for decades -- much as we continue to remain in South Korea -- to maintain some sense of peace there.
