How a cartoonist's mind works: As I was drawing this, I could really hear a gravelly blues singer and a blues harmonica playing this (with all the bluesey riffs and wails) in my head. Perhaps this is because when I go to conferences of editorial cartoonists, some of them jam in blues and rock sing-alongs during evening social times (Walt Handelsman of Newsday in Long Island, a Pulitzer Prize winner, and Mike Keefe of the Denver Post are quite good on blues harmonica).
