Getting ripped in print
Letters in print from Friday's and today's print editions:
Don't speak for King
Re: Steve Greenberg's Aug. 29 Opinion page cartoon:
After years of anti-Christian hatred in his political cartoons, Greenberg is definitely not qualified to state what the godly Christian pastor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would approve or not approve of.
Rodney Sinclair,
Thousand Oaks
(Odd he'd go after a warm, fuzzy cartoon about MLK and Obama... MLK would probably have been very happy with the nomination, and the cartoon -- SG)
Greenberg doesn't suit him
Re: Steve Greenberg's Sept. 3 Opinion page cartoon:
OK, please, enough already. I've just seen what I would gladly pay to be the last Greenberg "political cartoon" -- President Bush in a Sarah Palin pantsuit. Greenberg's work is so juvenile, so trite, rarely humorous and off-the-hook leftist. There has to be a plethora of liberal cartoonists available. I'd be happy to pay a few rubles more for my Star subscription to find one who doesn't make me want to scratch my eyes out.
Ken Hurd, Camarillo
(Well, ouch!)

Comments
Far from being anti-christian, the MLK cartoon was reverent and respectful, with an unusual delicate sensitivity for a political cartoon. Reader Sinclair have his head up his godly ass to have interpreted this as anti-anything.
The Palin-pantsuit was just laugh out loud funny.

Amber the Cat
(President of Kitties for Steve Greenberg)
I find the fact that a reader wants to pay in rubles very scary...:-)
What planet does he live on? I think it is a compliment to Mr. Greenberg that his cartoons are being read on other planets!!!
Mike: I see your very nice letter made it into print. Thank you very much for all the nice words!
Veronica, yes, I have a big following on other planets, especially Saturn.

Don't forget that these "complaints" are merely an indication that you're doing it right.
Your "Fiscal Conservative" cartoon is zooming in popularity on Digg today. And marked "Reported by diggers as possibly inaccurate".
Editorial cartooning has historically been an integral part of our national political discourse since before the Revolution.
You and your peers are doing important work, so don't let the bastards bring you down.
And thanks for making us laugh.
With appreciation, GOPnot4me

Steve Greenberg is a genius. Like all brilliant artists the emotions Mr. Greenberg evokes out of his readership is legendary. Mr. Greenberg's work encourages self-reflection. Unfortuanetly, there have been Republican readers who have had bad experiences. Republicans who have wanted to "scratch their eyes out". One story I heard Steve Greenberg wrote a cartoon featuring the Elton Gallegly. The cartoon upset a radical right wing terrorist group sect in the area. They hated him for his freedom. They wanted Steve Greenberg gone.
Steve Greenberg hasn't backed down over all these years. He is still here. As a matter of fact I believe we need a Steve Greenberg surge.
