Teen pregnancy

qqxsgAbstinence only.jpg

While this cartoon is not specifically about her, it was revealed that Sarah Palin's unmarried, 17-year-old daughter in high school is five months pregnant, and had been given no information from her parents about sex education or contraception, only on abstinence. While abstinence is a noble goal, it does not always prevail in real life, and the lack of preparation can lead to unwanted results such as with the Palin daughter (who apparently will have the child and spend the rest of her life married to the boy who got her pregnant).

Palin said it was her daughter's CHOICE to have the baby and marry the father. Should Palin succeed in getting elected, it is her goal to deny everyone else that same CHOICE.

How can you be so certain the girl will spend the "rest of her life married to the boy who got her pregnant." Perhaps the girl will follow her divorced aunt as a role model. That could mean the decision to marry the father would be another "political" decision.

She could even follow her mom's running mate as a role model, and leave the first spouse for a younger prize...

Or she could make friends with domestic terrorists and then run for president as a democrat...

You say that as if it is a bad thing. Tell me, what is wrong keeping the child and spending the rest of her life married the father?

Well, there's nothing necessarily wrong with keeping the child and spending the rest of her life married to the father, if that's what she really wants at age 17. But so many young people at that age haven't defined themselves or their directions, and may not want to spend a lifetime with a teenage relationship. Or the boy may not want to spend the rest of his life with her, or may not be emotionally invested in raising his kid. Sometimes young marriages work out. Often not.

Did it ever occur to you that these two young adults just might be able to put aside their “wants and make a commitment to do what is best for their child? And, having made that commitment stand by it “till death do they part? Or is that type of selflessness something that you just can not understand?

It would be great if they could to put aside their “wants and make do what is best for their child... but not all 17-year-olds are able to do that.

And Palin would deny that same CHOICE her daughter made to everyone else...should she be elected.
'Abstinence Only' education didn't seem to work for the Palin Family...did it?
