Why I Married My Sailor

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Valentine's Day is upon us and I have been thinking about my wonderful husband. Many of my family and friends were surprised that I married a member of the armed forces during a time of war (yes, I married him following 9/11). Many are confused about my choice...

I fell in love with a 'man', an incredible man of character and integrity. A quiet man of principle. He is a man who puts in long, hard hours in conditions I could never handle. A man who puts his family, friends and me before his own needs and desires. He is a man who weeps as the flag passes by at a Memorial Day parade. That man, my husband, happens to be amember of our nation's armed forces. His career, like that of anyone, is a part of who he is.

Why did I marry him? Because I am so in love with him? Yes! Because I believe in him, respect him and admire him? Yes, yes, YES!

I chose this life because it is such a privilege to stand behind this man who sacrifices not just for his wife and family but for his neighbor and nation - whether they know it or not. It is a privilege to support him, to be his number one cheerleader, to be his Morale Officer. It is a privilege.

His small part in this military may not 'win' the war. But his small part contributes to mission success and I have the privilege of living to support him.

This Valentine's Day, whether together or apart, I will celebrate the love this man has for me and renew my love and support for him...because it is a privilege.

Your turn? Why did you marry your service member, do you have a valentine's day message for them? Post it here...
