Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg came out swinging Wednesday against Senate Republicans who are blocking the Democrats' budget plan to close the $24 billion budget gap.

A "political earthquake" can be triggered if Republicans harness both grass-roots energy and the new media, said Chuck DeVore, a candidate for U.S. Senate, on Friday.
"We are on the verge of a new tax revolt in California," DeVore told members of the Conejo Valley Republican Women Federated. If taxpayer outrage is coupled with emergent technologies, that earthquake could very well have global implications, he said. Read more...
The California State Assembly wants to regulate handgun ammunition as vigorously as handguns themselves. Earlier this month, the Assembly passed AB 962, which would criminalize transfers of over 50 rounds per month, even between family members.
Ostensibly, this bill is designed to curb gang violence by keeping ammo out of the wrong hands. But let's think about this for a minute. If laws like this were so effective, existing law would already prohibit these gang members from having any GUNS. But they do have guns, because they are criminals, and criminals, by definition, have trouble obeying the law. Read more...
On Friday, the governor signed legislation that prohibited tax subsidizations of the type that the city of Fillmore gives to a medical equipment distributor. The distibutor opened an office there to take advantage of a generous sales tax subsidy the city provided. Fillmore's revenue will increase $800,000 annually for the twenty-year term of the deal, which diverted $2 million in sales tax revenue from Livermore, CA. Read more...
