This makes a pretty profound statement, doesn't it? Ten years ago, would you have imagined that four major networks, who are supposed to be watching government on our behalf, would crawl into bed with a president who has accumulated massive amounts of executive power in order to silence a competing network?

UCLA did a study about 4 years ago on media bias. Drudge Report came out closest to the "center" and FOX was less "right" than the other major networks are "left". And the WSJ was suprisingly "left" on the news articles and "right" on the opinion pieces. The Washington Post was "left" and the Washington Times was "right".

Bottom Line: If one is serious about educating themselves on what is really happening in the world they would avoid Fox News and MSNBC.

My all time hilarious memory of Fox News is when it argued in a lawsuit against it by a former reporter that "there is no legal requirement for us to only present factual news"

ROTFLMAO!!!!

As I said above, Fox is not as biased as the rest of the mainsteam media - it stands out because it leans the other way. All of the outlets are there solely for advertising $$$ so get your news from the internet and primary source everything. I've heard KNX1070 radio take a speech and modify it throughout the day - I heard the original speech and then I listened to them try to "inject" interest/spin over the course of 8 hours. Happens to all the news all the time.

I think the lesson is to absorb news from a variety of perspectives. Fox tilts right, CNN tilts left. Watch them both, then decide for yourself what makes sense.

Great point though that Fox stands out because it is one of the few outlets that leans opposite to the majority of the other news outlets.

An apt visual metaphor which pointedly describes the race to the bottom amongst these trendy paragons of "gossipization" which today passes for journalistic news gathering in the United States.

In my judgment, none of the so-called TV News panjandrums on these network giants consistently honor C.S. Sulzberger's description of the core responsibility of a journalistic news organization which is to, "..Comfort the afflicted, and afflict the comfortable."

They are too busy worrying about personality cult ratings and too quick to accept propaganda spin from government “spinmeisters” as newsworthy topics, especially from this White House.

And while waiting for that spin, they foam at the mouth in puerile jockeying for invitations and choice seats at White House State Dinners, rather than remembering their journalistic responsibility to their viewers.

Thank goodness for the proliferation of news sources and explosion of news topics catalytically triggered by the Internet.

Journalistic truths, as fleeting and far between as they are, are more likely to be discovered through the dynamic and passionate competition amongst these news sources in the 21st Century, rather than patiently awaiting the sclerotic flow of selective tidbits of propaganda emanating from these network dinosaurs.

Diversity of news sources, passionate competition, and primary sourced news, now that's my definition of "Fair and Balanced News," all the time..

NostraDemus

Eric,

Fox News Host Glenn Beck said the president was a racist that hated white culture. Do you find his attack on the president correct or obnoxious?

If we use the definition of "racism" that has been popularized by the likes of Jesse Jackson and the politically correct left, then yes, Obama fit their skewed definition when he condemned the white police officer that arrested Gates (to which Beck was referring when he called Obama a racist). Had the situation been flipped and President Bush rushed to the defense of the white officer, I think he would be branded a racist.

But their definition of "racist" is so broad that it can be applied to any topic that involves race no matter how benign it its and is nowhere close to the proper definition of it.

In this matter, Beck was guilty of forgetting the correct definition of racism and attempted to use the left's flawed version of the word against them.

Two wrongs don't make a right, and I think Beck misstepped here.
