Lunn's signs smashed, stolen

Candidate for Clerk/Recorder Mark Lunn posted on Facebook that he's received reports from supporters that his signs were stolen or vandalized:

Thanks for the calls & emails concerning the theft and destruction of my campaign signs. Please know that these unlawful acts were widespread throughout the County-so other than supporting me-you were not individually targeted. For your safety, do not confront anyone who is in the process of destroying/stealing our signs-call your local police agency and be a good witness. I appreciate your continued support!

I decided to check it out for myself, by driving down Los Angeles Ave. in Simi Valley. It took me five minutes to find not just a vandalized Lunn sign, but also a vandalized Peter Foy sign.

foy lunn.jpgThe post for Foy's sign is in the foreground. His sign lies nearby, and Lunn's sign is in the upper left corner, and looks like it was squished with a shoe. Someone must really have it in for both men to risk the consequences of getting caught.

Two years ago, two people were arrested for stealing Elton Gallegly signs in Simi Valley, also on L.A. Avenue.

Some signs were apparently stolen from Lunn's supporters' yards. How creepy is it that someone would come into your yard and take something in the middle of the night.

As a victim of this horrible crime, we are happy to report that the video may assist the police in arresting the people responsible for these crimes, and maybe than some of this madness may stop.
Thank you for not giving up or giving in!!

Isn't that Katie Teague I see running in the background?

Usually it's just kids doing this stuff on their way around town. We've learned not to put any by the high schools.

The first-time candidates always get the most freaked about it. Just order plenty and don't put them up too early. Relax. Take a deep breath. June 8 is just around the corner.

Oh, so that was you putting up the Foy and Lunn signs, Marie? I didn't know you switched sides. Finally seeing the light, eh?

Only putting up Susan Jordan for Assembly signs this time! I was obviously talking about sign placement in general. My advice is to spend more time precinct walking and less time worrying about signs.

As a side note: Santa Barbara only lets you put them on private property with the owner's permission. No placement in public right-of-way areas.

So, it sounds like you're endorsing the trashing of campaign signs, Marie, or at least saying it's no big deal.

How would you feel if someone destroyed a couple of hundred signs you just put up for Susan Jordan? My guess is you wouldn't be too happy. All that work for nothing, not to mention the expense for the signs going down the drain.

Who cares about Santa Barbara? We live in Ventura County and that is the subject of this thread. Stay on topic, please.

Could be teenage boys being teenage boys, could be the liberal elite, could be one of Lunn’s staff’s desperate attempt at creating a press opportunity, could be poor sign installation (you have to really push down in the grass, you know), could be a big gust of hot air from the mouth of Barbara Boxer, could be a news story if it didn’t happen every year to some degree(yawn), could be confused Islamic jihadists, could be G.W. Bush driving drunk after a simpleton speech from the Reagan Library(another yawn), could be swine flu, heck I don’t know.

Perhaps the two candidates for Sheriff can get their teams together and see who can solve the case first? The winner gets my vote.

In other words…non-issue

I still think it's Katie Teague.

Well after doing this as long as I have, I have just come to accept that signs are going to disappear, be trashed etc. They are out there in public and kids like to mess with them.

One year somebody told me they found a bunch of my candidate's signs in a homeless encampment. They were using them to put underneath tents and shelters as a barrier from the ground!

It's really better to find a few folks willing to put up large ones on private property and call it a day.

OK, Marie, go ahead and keep wasting your candidate's money then. I'm sure she's thrilled she hired such a spend-thrift campaign worker as you.

Keep dreaming about the signs on private property too. As I'm sure you know, candidates are interested in getting their signs in the most publicly visible locations possible, not stuck in somebody's backyard.

I'll sure never hire you to work on my campaign.

There are quite a few spots in ag areas, lots, etc. with high visibility along main corridors and the freeway that candidates use.

Honestly I don't really like signs all that much but I know the volunteers love them.

And Mike I would never work on your campaign. :-)

See you around.

Marie,

Das Williams recently came out strongly against the Arizona immigration law and described it as racist. Does Susan Jordan support the law? The boycott? Think the law is racist?

Marie, I bet you don't answer the Question. Susan Jordan's going down to Das and then Das is going down to Mike Stoker. You heard it here first.

I think Governor Brewer did the right thing in signing this bill into law. If Arnold had half the balls the Arizona governor has, our state would be much better off.

Susan Jordan was interviewed on several Santa Barbara TV shows and commented about the Arizona immigration law, noting it seems to have major problems with probable cause and 14th Amendment consistency.

Das is welcome to play the Race Card about immigration policy.

Santa Barbara culture does not tolerate illegal political signs on public property, especially when not even in front of a particular private property.
One reason why our real estate prices are much higher.
