Political roundup: Gorell holds substantial lead over Masry

Summer is just about over--kids are back in school, and Labor Day is approaching, the unofficial start of fall. That also means that it's campaign season, with the November general election only two months away.

Tonight, much of the local politicos will be glued to their TV's watching Carly Fiorina debate Barbara Boxer in the campaign for the U.S. Senate  as the incumbent struggles for her political life against her toughest challenger yet.

In Alaska, a sitting senator was just defeated by a no-name Tea Party candidate.

Closer to home, the Ventura County GOP made endorsements in the treasurer-tax collector and Simi Valley mayoral races, choosing Steven Hintz and Bob Huber, respectively.

In the 37th Assembly District, where Republican Jeff Gorell is running against Democrat Ferial Masry, a new poll shows that Gorell's opened up a 13-point lead over his opponent, including leaners. More bad news for Masry:  Democrats don't seem to be all that energized by their nominee; the poll indicates that Republicans are about 25 percent more likely to support Gorell than Democrats are willing to support Masry.

The poll was commissioned by the Gorell campaign and conducted August 23-25.

One thought about the poll: 80 percent of likely voters said California is moving in the wrong direction. Why isn't that number closer to 99.999 percent? Who in their right mind doesn't think California is headed in the wrong direction?

It's not surprising that Gorell has such a strong lead over his opponent. He has worked for the past 2 years to gain a broad base of bipartisan support.

This race isn't about Republicans versus Democrats, its about electing a proven, qualified leader to help turn Sacramento around.

That's why I am voting for Jeff Gorell for Assembly

Doesn't surprise me that Jeff has such a big lead. Jeff Gorell has unified Republicans—receiving three-quarters of GOP vote in the poll. Masry only getting 57% of Democrats. In the primary 14,000 more Republicans voted for Jeff than Democrats voted for Ferial Masry. Also, from what I can tell Masry herself is about the only donor to her campaign, which shows a lack of community support.

Favorable poll results speak to Jeff's background and abilities - which have earned him the reputation of a qualified leader. While Jeff continues to capture strong bipartisan endorsement, Masry's lack of support is evidence that she's without the experience and skills necessary to inspire any sort of turnaround for California.

Jeff Gorell is an outstanding candidate, he is the only Republican to get an endorsement from a labor union. He will be a great assemblymen.

Not surprised that Jeff has such a strong lead in the polls. Especially after he captured over 90% of the vote in the primary. His dedication to fixing California's economy is only of the many reasons as to why I will be voting for Jeff Gorell for Assembly.

Jeff Gorell has been a public servant long before the 2010 election. A naval reserve officer deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11, a former deputy DA who put criminals behind bars, a college instructor, a small business owner...this is a record of service and leadership, a record the voters appreciate as this new poll shows. As our next state assemblyman, Jeff Gorell will make a big difference for the 37th District and all of California.

Marissa tell the truth, that 90% of the Republican Primary were pass alongs from the conservative Strickland crew. Gorell didn't get 90% of the Democratic vote.

Jeff was promised and now the crew is due to give what was promised. Call political pre-organization. The people didn't vote for Audra, WAKE UP CALL they choose Linda!

Kickbacks don't prove Gorell to be a leader when he moves every three years to a different legal firm and is co-owner of a public relations firm. . .

Ventura voters aren't stupid the want someone who represents their best interest, not special interest . .

Ventura wants a leader who has withstood

being called a "terrorist",
partisan opposition,
ethnic hatred,
women bashing,
sign stealing,
huge corporation dollars,
fake polls,
and anti-semitic attacks.

We need someone we trust our own children with who teaches democratic values and personal sacrifice w/out accepting corporate contributions that are used to sway someone's stance on state bills and state legislation and this is before she gets into office!

Even Jeff and the author wrote,"she is an inspiration".

Give us a break . . . Hazel
