Another Season

01292010-1.jpgArmed with only snowballs, a pair of soldiers in the Afghan National Army (ANA) prepare to pick a fight with their comrades at Forward Operating Base Bostick on January 29, 2010. In the coming months, the melting snow pack will stream into the Kunar River as another season of uncertainty begins. With the mountain passes clear of snow and ice, guerrilla fighters will likely return to this river valley from the tribal lands in nearby Pakistan. Last year alone, more than 20 Afghan soldiers stationed at Bostick were killed during clashes with guerrilla forces.
