After hearing the familiar sound of incoming gunfire, Sergeant Abraham Cavazos scans a jagged ridgeline and prepares to return fire from inside a guard tower at Observation Post (OP) Bari Alia, eastern Afghanistan on February 21, 2010.  Half an hour later, Cavazos lowers his machine gun without having fired a single shot.

Mr. Lee,

Your photos are very moving. I like your work.

I am also a military photojournalist, but alas, I'm still very green and looking to cover the Canadian troop pullout next year.

Any tips on how to go about getting experience or nabbing a gig like yours?

Thanks,
Cheryl
